Russian Culture
Russia culture is very different from any other culture that I have ever read about. This is a country that is dominated by males. Males actually run the county of Russia. The men are so dominated that every Russian women dream is to be married and have a family with these men. Russia is known for its poor society. In the book Sakharov he mentions how he moved from one place to another. He first was in Moscow’s larger apartments with his family. In this apartment there were six families. With thin the six families they had to share the kitchen and the bathroom. Then he states that he moved into a very old house and in this old house there was a leaking ceiling. With in this house there were still six families that shared everything. (Sakharov 24-25)
In Russia there is a very high divorce rate. The divorce rate is high because of the prostitution and getting married just for religious purposes. My couples get married in Russia at a young age. Getting married at a young age is not a good idea in Russia or nowhere. Because of the prostitution rate in Russia it is bringing the abortion rate also. Just about every woman in Russia has had at least five abortions. The reason why woman get abortions is because they were either messing around with some one else man or they are married and got pregnant and neither of the spouses want the child.
Russia has a high crime rate also. Their crime rate is so high that if you were to go to the store like the grocery store, when you walk in the store u have to lock your things up in a locker and shop. When you got through shopping then you were to pick up your stuff out of your locker. The whole time that you are shopping there are people watching your every move. The reason why the crime rate is so high is because they work hard to get paid a little amount of money. Russia’s unemployment rate is very high. There are not enough jobs in Russia for everyone to have a job. For example if you were to get a job at a fast food restaurant, you were only getting paid a little or nothing an hour and that’s not even close to minuan wage in America.
The Effect of the Bolshevik Rule on Russian Culture Bolshevik cultural policy was based on spreading their values to the population. They attempted to promote equality to create a classless society. In addition to removing class differences they attempted to give equal status to women and to young people. In order to encourage women to work state funded crèches were established and laws passed to give women parity in terms of pay with men. The state tried to destroy the old concept of families by legalising abortion and enabling people to obtain divorces much more simply.
Russia has undergone many changes since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It has gone through many key changes both politically and economically. The Russian government lies in between a democratic and a totalitarian system, with dissatisfaction from many of the citizens. Economically Russia’s transition has been more successful, but many of the citizen’s are in poverty and have low standards of living. In conclusion, the transition from the communist model a democratic, free market oriented model has not gone smoothly and has not been successful.
Russia is the largest country on Earth and its territory expands to 17,098,242 sq km with 16,377,742 sq km composed of land and 720,500 sq km of water. Russia houses a population of approximately 142,470,272 citizens with 10.523 million residing in Russia's capital, Moscow. Russia's conventional name is the Russian Federation and in the past used to be called the Russian Empire and more recently, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic or the USSR before the fall of communism during late 1980s and early 1990s. After the fall of communism and collapse of the USSR in 1991, Russia's first democratically elected president, Boris Yeltsin attempted to reform Russia into a democratic nation. Today Russia's attempts at becoming a democratic nation have failed, it has become a mock democracy with their elections being unfair, the courts no longer independent, and political oppositions are not tolerated.
...men are not discriminated anymore. Women are not expected to be just a plain housewife, taking care of her husband and children. They get high education and nice jobs with promising salaries. But, some women are still treated the same way they were treated in 1940’s. Paternalistic tradition still occurs in Russia along with other countries. This confirms that there are some similarities and differences for treating women in today’s society compared to the early days.
Poverty is a huge problem facing Russia. In a country with such long traditions of statistical manipulation and hostility to the inquiries of the state, it is not easy to pin down the true extent of poverty in Russia. But there is little doubt that the picture is looking increasingly bleak. United Nations figures suggest that the purchasing power of average income in the USSR in 1987 was about $6,000 or 32 per cent of the level of the US (Andrew, "POVERTY: Bleak future for the poor"). By 1996, it was just $4,531 in adjusted terms, or 17 per cent of the US level (Andrew, "POVERTY: Bleak future for the poor"). Since the collapse of the Sovie...
The causes of such reduction are from high death rate, high rate of emigration and low fertility rate. Based on the fact that less population density affect the living of citizens, most people in Russia tend to heavily consume alcohol and tobacco, because of low pressure on social and limited competition in their career; despite that alcohol was a cause of more than half of all Russian deaths, also consequence of consuming alcohol can lead to increasing in HIV as well. Last but not least, main factor that also affect depopulation in Russia is economic hardship. Lower standard of living and bad economic causing rate of emigration to rise, also women would feel less than encourage to have children because they wouldn’t be able to afford to have a children. Where Russia headed from now is largely depend on how the economy performs, Putin need to figure out the solution to this
On universities or colleges Russia does not regularly provide financial aid to their students but they get free books for their classes by their university or college library. The United States has more than 4,500 degree-granting colleges and universities, including 2-year colleges. (Bergheim, L.A. Weird Wonderful America). Russia has only 3 years of college or 4 years as we regularly have on the United States. Another example of differences between United States and Russia is there holidays, like Russia Christmas Eve is on January the 7 and on United States is on December 25. Also like in Unites States the month February day 14 in our culture is Valentine’s Day however in Russia Valentine’s Day for them its call Women’s Day and it's on March the 9. That day it's the same women receive flower and love cards as we do but on February the 14. Another example of differences is there population, United States has 318.9 million people and Russia has 143.5 million people even that Russia is twice bigger than United States. The reasons for the decline included a low birth rate and a significant drop in life expectancy due to such factors as drug and alcohol use, high smoking rates, poor nutrition, and inadequate health care. (Gottfried, Ted).
Russia is the largest country in the world in terms of area and the world’s ninth most populous nation with 143 million people. Due to its large area the country is situated in 4 different climate zones and has vast natural resources. Russia also has a unique geographic position with the 14 border countries, bounded by 3 out of 4 world oceans, facilitating the build of international and domestic supply chains. Russia is one of the most technologically advanced economies in the world with a very big and well-educated work force and one of the largest consumer markets. The Russian economy is commodity-driven and is the world’s largest producer of oil (12%), natural gas (18%) and nickel (20%).
Families were broken apart because of the gulags. Husbands and wives. Mothers and fathers were separated from their kids. This was all part of striking fear into the communities of the Soviet Union. Here’s an example. Maria Tchebotareva had to feed four starving children. The reason is because in the early 1930’s there was a famine. She stole three pounds of rye from a collected field. (it was her field to start but it was taken away during the period of collectivization which is when the Soviet Union collected every individuals farms.) She served until 1945 and then had to live in exile until 1956. When she came back home she was never able to find he kids the rest of her life (What Were Their Crimes?, n.d.). This happened all over the Soviet Union. This cause multiple children to be without parents. People always say that the reason why there is so much crime in the United States is because they don’t have a father or mother figure. In the Soviet Union they take away the parent figure so this causes multiple problems. One problem come for taking the parents away from the kids is that the child doesn’t know what is going on. They don’t receive love or nurture. Which cause a problem because they don’t know how to act around people. They don’t know how to show love because they were never given
Russia is a huge landmass and covers a vast amount of the earth’s surface area. Being so large, Russia contains a huge variety of different geographical features. There are several mountains, rivers, bodies of water, climate zones, and population centers in Russia. Most of the development in Russia is located in its core area, east of the Ural Mountains. There are several countries around Russia that used to be parts of a larger union called The Union of Soviet Socialists Republics, however, in 1991, the USSR broke apart into several other independent states. The new states that were formed are: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
Dominica’s culture is very unique as it has changed hands between European countries such as Spain, Great Britain, and France, who brought African’s as slaves to work the fields. As a result of this combination of different cultures, Dominica contains characteristics that combine to make what is called Creole. This Creole is the mixing of these cultures in language, music, art, food, architecture, religion, dance, dress, and sports. France has had the most noticeable affect on Dominica, which is seen through the majority of Dominicans practicing Roman Catholicism, the French based patois, and the French place names. The best example of this culture is seen in their Carnival, which involves an out pouring of Calypso as the islanders celebrate their heritage through dress, dance, and food.
Culture is learned and shared human patterns or models for living. These patterns and models pervade all aspects of human social interaction. Culture is mankind's primary adaptive mechanism ( Damen 1987, 367 ). According to Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at Barnet and Southgate College in London, the word “ culture ” is originally taken from the Latin word " colere," which means to tend to the earth and grow. It generally claimed that no culture is stable as change is an essential part of it. There are many factors that affect culture, such as economic, environmental, government policy decisions, technological developments and many others. As Kazakh culture takes its roots from very early times, it has gone through significant changes
Russia economic has been growing and it has lead to an increase in slave labor. The people are usually obtained from poor places in Russia, where they don’t have much education. In 2012, it was estimated that 600,000 people were trafficked for slave labor. They were promised with new jobs and a better future, but unfortunately this was a false statement. Since slave labor as been growing, it was affected the country and the world economically. The human trafficking business has been estimated to make a profit of $31 billion annually. Due to this business, there has been a lost wage in the formal economy of $21 billion. This business has grown all over Europe and has become into a multi-billion dollar
A Russian proverb says: “we don’t value what we have and cry when we lose it.” Russian people recklessly lost their freedom when they gave the power to communists in 1917. Among the great many consequences of this upheaval was a major economic crisis, part of which was a massive housing shortage. As a result, millions of people were cramped into what was called “communal apartments.” Generally, those were large apartments with a long corridor that led to a kitchen, a bathroom and several bedrooms where different families used to live. Since they had to share a kitchen and a bathroom, they basically had to share their lives. Everything that happened in society and neighbors’ lives was discussed in the kitchen. Moreover, neighbors actively meddled in other neighbors’ lives, often without any permission. Malicious tricks and helping hands, peaceful coexistence and furious quarrels, ridiculous misunderstandings and deep compassion transformed the kitchen in a theater-like place where tragedy and comedy intertwined into farce and the audience shared heroes’ drama.
The article being reviewed discusses the inevitable tie between sociology and families, specifically those in Russia. This article points out how it is the science of sociology that imparts a generalizing character to knowledge about family, how the problems of the family are to some extent involved in just about all areas of sociology, and how these “family variables” make it possible to gain a better understanding of the processes of social control and
