Benefits of Genetically Modified Organisms
We live in a world that is constantly changing and advancing thanks to technological advancements, especially in the field of molecular genetics. Today, we are discovering and implementing new ways to overcome the ill-fated symptoms developed as a result from poor health or accidents. We are also making advancements in the field of agriculture thanks to molecular genetics. As we all know, food is an essential entity in our lives and is abundant as well as relatively easy to obtain here in the United States. However, as good as it may sound, this is not necessarily true for developing countries. Many people in developing countries receive very little food, if any, due to its scarcity. It is estimated that in Asia alone, close to 800 million people go to bed hungry every night due to food shortage. This problem can be alleviated by turning to the production of genetically modified organisms (a.k.a. GMOs).
Genetically modified organisms can be plants or animals that have been genetically altered to produce or express a desired characteristic or trait. By genetically altering organisms such as crops, we can eliminate the use of pesticides by making the crops resistant to insects. We can also produce crops that are resistant to floods and droughts. Furthermore, with the use of molecular genetics, we are able to produce foods that are rich in nutrients and supplements. People in developing countries may not be fortunate enough to have a full course meal that contains nutrients from all four basic food groups. However, GMOs can with a little modification provide all the amino acids, vitamins, and minerals included in a good diet by simply consuming a genetically modified staple crop such as rice. In addition, by producing crops that are resistant to harsh environmental conditions as well as pests, we would see a rapid increase in the production of food thereby reducing and or! possibly eliminating starvation in developing countries.
Some people may argue that GMOs is simply not the best solution to starvation. Many believe that GMOs will lead to ill-fated consequences after being consumed. It is in fact that their fears are based on hysteria and ignorance. Consuming GMOs will not lead to the production of horns on our heads nor will it make us grow tails. Genetically modified organisms will however increase food production, which is the bottom line. What do you think the first thought will cross a person's mind when his/her stomach aches for food?
In 1982 James Q. Wilson and George Kelling developed a theory call “The Broken Window Theory.” The theory is based on the aesthetics of urban decay in neighborhoods, which perpetuates and fosters a canvas for the causation of serious criminal activity and social disorder to flourish. Today, the theory is much more than a “broken window.” The principles include social disorganization, lack of social capital, neglected properties, and economically distressed communities on government assistance due to the lack of economic opportunities. In addition, media and social media outlets have created and sustained a false narrative vilifying law enforcement causing civil unrest in urban areas. The malign actions of a few officers have created an anti-law enforcement sentiment creating
The poem used as an example of an extended metaphor, helped the students to visualize what an extended metaphor looked like as well as its components. Then, each group drew a Popsicle stick out of a container. Each Popsicle stick contained a simple metaphor that the students were required to make into an extended metaphor, as a group. If the students did not like their choice, they were provided with the choice to create their
But there is reason to believe that the time period can be cumulatively instead of the assumed consecutively. This is believed to be the reason that Herbert Hoover was able to successful run for President in 1928 after his return in 1917. Hoover went to China where he worked as a leading engineer for a private corporation. In June of 1900, he was stuck in the midst of the Boxer Rebellion. He was located in a settlement that was under heavy fire for a month. In 1914, he was stationed in London when Germany declared war on France, so joined the American Consul General to aid stranded tourist to get back home. He then came home and was entrenched in government because President Wilson appointed Hoover the head of the Food Administration. He had not been home for 14 years consecutively. The third and final requirements is that the President must be a natural born citizen of the United States of America. This is defined as being a natural born citizen.
There are many things in life that are hard to explain within themselves, which is why people often use metaphors to expand on their speech. Whether it is a poet comparing their love to a rose or a woman comparing a man to a dog, almost everyone uses metaphors in their everyday language. Many good examples of metaphors in everyday writing are found in August Wilson's play, Fences. In this play there are also many ways that the characters use "fences" as both figurative and literal terms. All these forms of writing really expand on the story and help people to understand the characters much better.
Genetically modified food’s, or GMOs, goal is to feed the world's malnourished and undernourished population. Exploring the positive side to GMOs paints a wondrous picture for our planet’s future, although careful steps must be taken to ensure that destruction of our ecosystems do not occur. When GMOs were first introduced into the consumer market they claimed that they would help eliminate the world’s food crisis by providing plants that produced more and were resistant to elemental impacts like droughts and bacterial contaminants, however, production isn’t the only cause for the world’s food crisis. Which is a cause for concern because the population on the earth is growing and our land and ways of agriculture will not be enough to feed everyone sufficiently. No simple solutions can be found or applied when there are so many lives involved. Those who are hungry and those who are over fed, alike, have to consider the consequences of Genetically Modified Organisms. Food should not be treated like a commodity it is a human necessity on the most basic of levels. When egos, hidden agendas, and personal gains are folded into people's food sources no one wins. As in many things of life, there is no true right way or wrong way to handle either of the arguments and so many factors are involved that a ‘simple’ solution is simply not an option.
Broken Windows Policing racially profiles and traumatizes minority groups. Law enforcement agencies are biased when they decide to target African Americans and Hispanics since they have subjective views against these minority groups. Simply put, the policing of misdemeanors and offenders that are responsible for low-level offenses result in prejudicial consequences such as racial profiling or stereotyping individuals that are more likely to be involved in crime. In the article, “Growing Up With Stop-and-Frisk,” Sara Maria Glanowski details the detrimental effects that one Broken Windows Policing strategy, known as the stop-and-frisk policy, had on the predominantly Black community of Brownsville, Brooklyn. Broken windows theory may serve some value once a city has lost site of a zone and allowed its decline thereby effectively reallocating resources to areas with high concentrations of crime. However, crime occurs in all neighborhoods, by focusing on poor declining areas may be better served by preventive measures. Broken Windows may be a short-term solution that may help to improve an area that has become crime ridden, but moving police focus on one area of town and then another as crime mapping may be counterproductive that may be realized by Chicago and

In that publication, George L. Kelling and James Q. Wilson had their essay “Broken Windows: The Police and Neighborhood Safety” published. The essay was meant to address crime within neighborhoods, and based on the ideas in the essay the broken windows theory emerged. The basis for the idea was that if a neighborhood allowed one broken window to stay broken, then the neighborhood would soon suffer more broken windows. The idea of the theory is that serious crimes such as murder and rape are enabled by misdemeanor level crimes like public intoxication, vandalism, prostitution, loitering, and vagrancy type crimes. Within the belief of the theory, people are not naturally bad individuals. It is the environment in which they are raised and they live in that is responsible for their criminal behavior. To respond to these lower level crimes, the essay says that patrol officers should be encouraged, or managed to get out of their police cars and walk the beat. This way, they are mingling amongst the citizens and building good relationships with the people that live in those neighborhoods. They are also expected to address people committing those minor crimes already listed by either arrests or citations depending on their
How many of you hear the words “genetically modified food” and immediately think “BAD”? How many of you scorn the idea that genetically modified foods are useful? How many of you have been manipulated by the media to think that all biotechnology is evil? Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are organisms that have been genetically spliced to achieve a certain trait. As the demand for a larger food supply is increasing due to population growth, the benefits that GMO foods provide are being hailed as the only solution to the food crisis. However, many people are making inadequately informed decisions, and are pushing them to the back shelf. I will inform you on why genetically modified organisms may be the only way to a stable, safe future for the less fortunate.
Reading goals must be realistic. Students will not engage if the reading is not authentic. I want to encourage my students in reading and give them the tools they need to succeed while allowing them to choose what they read. I also want to implement different reading assessments that are creative rather than just textbook responses. Genuine reading experiences will help my students find their own passion for reading. These experiences may come from allowing students to pick their own books, having parent involvement, giving specific feedback, or alternative ways of assessment. I believe the more options I give my readers the more realistic my chances of connecting with them are.
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are a cause of continuous debate. What would be the purpose of producing genetically altered food? Many argue that GMOs could prove to be very beneficial, the use of GMOs could lead to advances in medicine, and agriculture, and they could also prevent famine in poor underdeveloped countries. Genetic modification offers many benefits: pest control, disease resistant crops, drought resistant crops, no use of insecticides, nutritional beneficial foods, and less contamination. This is only a short list of the many benefits offered by the used of GMOs. With so many benefits why are we opposed to such a miracle? (NERC 2005)
Advocates claim that the world may benefit greatly from the production and consumption of GM foods, especially those countries with high rates of poverty and starvation. Experts insist that the GM products will put an end to world hunger. It is estimated that the world population will grow up to 9 billion people in 2050, and a good alternative to feed them is the GM products. Nowadays, in almost all African countries people are dying because of hunger and hunger-related diseases. The estimate of life expectation in these countries is fifty seven years old, and it will decrease to forty seven in 2020 (kwengwere 2-3). The governments of these countries are battling to put a stop to this unfair situation. Experts have said that the best alternative is the implementation of GM cultures in Africa; it will reduce the deaths, increase the life expectations and nourish the whole continent (Forsberg 1). The future of Africa is uncertain, but it is sure to depend on the hands of GM p...
Career development is a continuous process of handling proactively work and changes in life in order to move forward and reach the goals set for a better future. It involves learning new skills, moving up in the position within the organization or altogether moving to new organization or even starting up a new business. A career development plan is created to set goals and how to reach these goals using your talents and skills in the working world. A five year plan is ideal to start with, as five years are enough to reach bigger goals while working for and achieving smaller goals.
The career action plan that I outlined provides a strategy that will help to steer the chosen career in the right direction by offering assistance in managing the path of my career. Also, it can assist with the skills and knowledge for the job, and how to go by reaching them. The outline helps to identify the strengths and weaknesses, so I can work towards making those improvements that need development to better the career. Another benefit of using this action plan will help create milestones and timelines, which are required for developing skills before success. Also, it will help to contribute identifying other options as progressing during this
