School was out and the sweetness of summer had finally set in, with nothing to look forward to but what would be the best summer of our lives. My best freind Ben and i were relaxing by the pool soaking up the sun as we started to talk about what we wanted to do for the summer and the rest of our lives. In the midst of our conversation our mutual love of music came about and he shouted these words which started it all...."lets do it man, lets start a band!"
Now i had played the guitar for years now, played in a few bands.....nothing i ever saw potential in. Ben had had a very long stay with a great local band as their bass player and as that came to an end he started to learn the drums, which he called his true passion. New at the insturment he was, but no matter, we began lookin for other people to fill the band. His very good freind dave had long wanted to front a band and we all beleived he was just the man for the job, very outgoing charismatic, and of course he was always the ladies man. Now we just needed a bass player to complete our quartet. One of our good freinds by the name of mike played the guitar which is very simalar to bass and we all thought he was a person that we wanted in the band, so we asked him to make the change for us. He agreed and now the task of aquiring the personel was complete, now we just needed material, and much much practice.
We began writing songs arranging them just the way we wanted, as well as learn a few songs to cover from our favorite artists. We new we didnt have much time becuase fall would soon come and take us each away to our different schools and then we would be no more or at least have to wait untill the next summer. On top of that we had set our first perfomance one month from the date of our first practice and if you have ever been in a band you know it isnt something you can just pick up and do, it requires much dedication. So practice we did, we kept a rigoris practice scheudule, basically any time that all four or even three out of four didnt have work obligations we were in mikes basement practicing.
The outbreak of diseases ravages through the Native population. Due to geographic regions and limitation, the Natives never from such a strong illness such as smallpox, measles and the black plague. Some of the European colonies gave the Natives diseased infested animals and clothing. The English and the Natives did cooperate with each due to it being in the best of their interests. Their mutual trust would later erode due to the English going back to their old habits and started to steal from the Natives. In 1540, the Tiwa tribe offered hospitality and peace with the Spaniards. During the harsh winter, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado demanded and threaten the Tiwa tribe from clothing, including the clothing on their backs. The Tiwa tribe fled and killed the Spaniard’s horses. The Spaniards would have their revenge in the Tiguex War which lasted from 1540 to 154...
The Spaniards took advantage of the Natives’ hospitality and docility and used it to make their way into their cities, to then, destroy them. The Spanish were faced with little to no opposition from the Indians. The Native Americans welcomed the Europeans with open arms as if they were divine, “Once it so happened, that the citizens of a famous city, distant ten miles from the place where we then resided, came to meet us with a splendid retinue, to render their visit more honorable, bringing with them delicious viands, and such kind of dainties, with as great a quantity of fish as they could possibly procure, and distributing them among us; but behold on a sudden, some wicked devil possessing the minds of the Spaniards, agitated them with great fury, that I b...
Furthermore, our band had two concerts this semester. During our March concert, I was far more relaxed than my first concert. I felt that I played a lot better, and improved many aspects of my playing. However, I felt that I still needed to focus more on my dynamics, and listening to the rest of the band. In that concert we played Metrix, Water is Wide, Cold Mountain Saga, and Jungle Dance. Overall, our band improved, as we had better dynamics and articulation. However, we still were not together at times, and we sometimes ...
In “The Raven”, a man’s wife death causes him to hear a knocking at the door before realizing its coming from the window and he communicates with a raven. I will be comparing both of Poe’s books “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven” focusing on the narrator, setting, and the tone. The main subjects I will be discussing in my paper are the bothered narrators, the senses the narrators’ possess, and the use of a bird in both of the stories.
Finally, modern issues show that even till today. insults to the Native Americans are happening because of the power the government holds. Modern issues that the Natives Americans face today, are the poor conditions that the reservations they live. There is lack of easy access supply of water and there is hardly and jobs to make and earn money from. Lack of jobs cause some of the Natives to leave the reservations and seek work in other states to be able to provide enough living for their families. Their houses are really run down and small, many insects infest their
Poe’s life was never an easy one which could have gave him the inspiration he need to create such dark tales. From the “The Raven” which makes the reader feel along with narrator over the loss of someone dear and spiraling into a state of depression. To the tale of “The Tell-Tale Heart” which makes a person think why the narrator believe he is sane and in the right for killing the man. Edgar Allan Poe writes dark tales but his stories draw a person in and leaves the reader
The Native Americans were given some laws of protection, however, by this point many Spaniards looked at Native Americans as vile human beings and mistreated them as a social normalcy. Many native Americans died from overwork, and harsh living conditions given to them by the Spaniards. Native Americans introduced the Spaniards and settlers to different types of crops. It is the reason Spaniards had them harvest their farms, to make sure their crops flourished. Spaniards didn’t know how to care for the crops like the Native Americans so they forced them to under violence and deaths. The reason Spaniards were able to defeat native tribes, and force them to work for their own personal greed was due to their using more advanced techniques like the gun Native Americans had already been weakened by being exposed to smallpox so having the guns only made the Spaniards more powerful and dominate over them. Native Americans tried to attacked greatly, but they were outnumbered by Spaniards and settlers. Though there was a point where Native Americans allied with Britain or France during the times of their wars, though the British and French troops turned on them and killed the Native Americans when they wars were done. This led to a huge shortage of Native Americans, and so workers had to be looked for elsewhere. They found in the African culture their new
Music and songwriting date back centuries. Cultures, families, and religions have all used it as a way of expression and unity since the very beginning of time. Song writing in particular has become one of the most popular ways for society to express their thoughts and views of the caucus around us all. Music is a common language that we’ve all learned to speak and appreciate, and it is one way for us to stay connected as people.
Homelessness is a vast predicament in America and around the world. It is severely overlooked as people don’t really think of homelessness as real world problem. However, there have been ways that people have tried to fix the problem. They have come up with homeless shelters, emergency shelters, food banks and soup kitchens. These solutions have limitations though, which will hopefully come to an end.
I started with music at a very young age and I quickly fell in love with not only music itself but the fact that I could create something for others to hear and possible change their life through what I play. This thought simply blew my mind. I could do something that changed someone else’s life and all I had to do was do something that I enjoy. I became involved with the church band in order to share my talent with others, at the time I figure this would be a temporary thing until I found something better that I wanted to do. Me and my family had just moved to a new church and I was very shy, however, after a while I slowly realized that this is something that I wanted to do for longer than a little while. Now as it turns out I will be in this band till I graduate and go off for college because I simply enjoy it that much. When I started I had no idea that I would be where I am. It started as a hobby of playing guitar on the side and now I play piano, drums, cajon,
The solution was simply to give homeless people homes. The director of Utah’s homeless task force Lloyd Pendleton says that this totally changed the way the state deals with the homeless, they get them in a house, then the deal with everything else that caused them to become homeless. Pendleton told NBC, "I call them 'homeless citizens. ' They 're part of our citizenry. They 're not them and us. It 's 'we”. Its this sort of ideology that has completely changed the approach to homelessness in Utah and hopefully can spread to other parts of the country. The biggest issue with this plan however is the availability of low income housing. In Utah there was a surplus of housing, however in Boston there is a ten year waiting list to get into low income housing. Utah proves that it is one of the most effective and cheapest solutions
George Helmholtz, as the head of the music department at Lincoln High School, is very determined with his regular students and the gifted musicians of the band. Each semester and year at school he dreams of “leading as fine a band as there was on the face of the earth. And each year it came true”. His certainty that it was true was because he believed there was no greater dream than his. His students were just as confident and in response, they played their hearts out for them. Even the students with “no talent played on guts alone” for Helmholtz.
According to DeBrew, author of “Can being ageist harm your older adult patients?” stereotypes and discrimination are evident in various aspects of patient care. “Ageism [is] defined as stereotyping or discrimination aimed at older adults and a lack of knowledge about normal changes of aging and presentation of illness in older adults (. . .)” (DeBrew, 2015). DeBrew (2015) states, “research findings suggest that ageism is common in healthcare” (DeBrew, 2015). Ageism is not only an issue in the healthcare setting, but also among older adults as well as their families. When ageism is present in the healthcare setting it poses
This season was only the second year that I had been in marching band, even though we did do parades in middle school. The year before, I was selected to be drum major of the upcoming marching season. I was excited to meet the challenge of getting back to the state championships. It was also nerve-racking because I felt if we didn't make it to state, it would be my fault. To be truthful, later on I experienced both sentiments from some of the most influential, heart-warming, absolutely awesome friends that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. This would be the year that our band would adopt its slogan, its mission statement: Band #1.
drum major is the student leader of the band, and he is, at the same time, a role model, a
