Dear Journal,
Today I boarded an airplane in Philadelphia. I haven’t been on a plane before, so I was
very nervous. The takeoff was pretty smooth. I finally relaxed, then we landed in Atlanta,
Georgia. From here I rented a green compact car from Hertz. I drove from Atlanta to Tula in
one night. I eventually arrived at the border and showed the officials my voter registration card
and driver’s license. I finally crossed the border into Mexico. From here I wen to my first
stop, Tula. I stayed at the Sharon, a seven-story modern hotel, is placed right across the street
from the town hall and not far from the archaeological area.

Dear Journal,
I woke up this morning to a beautiful snow covered ground. I drove over freezing
roads to a Toltec site. The most spectacular site I saw while I was at the site was the Atlantes,
the giant stone sculptures. They are said to be guarding the Pyramid of the Morning Star.
After exploring the ancient site, I went back to the hotel and ate at the hotel’s fine restaurant.
I had to be sure not to get anything that may make travelers such as myself sick. Shortly after,
I checked out of the Sharon and drove into Mexico City and checked into the Matrol for the
night.

Dear Journal,
Today I went to the National Art Museum, Museo Nacional de Arte, and saw the
beautifully crafted building. There is a lovely double staircase made of bronze and marble
enclosed by a semi-circular window three stories high. The artwork in the museum was
incredible. The museum has 24 galleries ranging in Mexican art in every form. After an
exhausting trip to the art museum, I decided to have dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. Then I
had drinks in the lobby bar where a pianist plays nightly as hotel guest can enjoy the music and
scenery of the beautiful hotel.

Dear Journal,
I watched some TV in my room last night as I went to sleep. I was glad to have taken
Spanish classes in school, so I could have a slight understanding as to what was being said on
TV. Today I went to the Catedral Metrolitana. It is the biggest church in Latin America. The
church was so beautiful and very large. There were hundreds of paintings and sculptures
throughout the building. The wonderful clocktower was full of statues of Faith, Hope, and
Charity. I went back to the hotel, gathered my things, and drove to The Casa Gonzalez, where
For my museum selection I decided to attend Texas State University’s Wittliff Collection. When I arrived, there was no one else there besides me and the librarian. To be honest, I probably would have never gone to an art museum if my teacher didn’t require me to. This was my first time attending the Wittliff Collection, thus I asked the librarian, “Is there any other artwork besides Southwestern and Mexican photography?” She answered, “No, the Wittliff is known only for Southwestern and Mexican photography.” I smiled with a sense of embarrassment and continued to view the different photos. As I walked through Wittliff, I became overwhelmed with all of the different types of photography. There were so many amazing pieces that it became difficult to select which one to write about. However, I finally managed to choose three unique photography pieces by Alinka Echeverria, Geoff Winningham, and Keith Carter.
The museums Asian art collection, preferably from China and Korea, are exhibited in the Pavilion for Japanese Art (Basch and Poole 541), whereas the Latin American art collection: comprising pre-Columbian magnum opuses to works by Diego Rivera, Clemento Orozco, Frida Kahlo, and such like, are exhibited in the Latin American Art galleries (Compton 165). In addition to its American, Latin American and Asian artworks, the museum has also some of the renowned Islamic and African art collections. The Latin American collection harbors pre-Columbian and Spanish art galleries and other recent and contemporary works of art. But despite its predominance in the LACMA museum, these pieces of art may not rival the Arabian or Islamic art in beauty and magnificence.
I chose the DIA to visit and right about, it was the hottest day of the year, July 21st if there is one complaint I have is that their isn’t enough close parking for the DIA. Driving around John R I thought perhaps I could park at the Detroit Science Center, but it was patrolled by hot scary look security guards. Next option was to drive down to the VA and walk down, with that heat the idea was nixed. I eventually found a spot off Woodward to park, and thus my adventure began. As we entered in I was awe struck by the fountains they looked so cool and refreshing. My favorite was the stair fountain, proceeding up the stairs I spied the statue of Neptune, the detail was amazing my daughter chimed in “that’s my favorite dad. Yes my daughter accompanied me on the epic journey; in which I owe her many kudos for keeping dad on mission and on point. Upon entering the DIA I was filled with a since of amazement and wonder; I hadn’t been there since I was in grade school actually felt ashamed for the long absence. The Museum was immaculately clean and well kept; every single employee was extremely courteous and helpful.

For this assignment I decided to visit the America Tropical Interpretive Center because for my Chicano class we looked at this mural and I thought it would be cool to visit it in real life. The America Tropical Interpretive Center is a little museum in LA to be exact in Olvera Street. This Museum is filled with artwork that represents what I think is the history of LA. The artwork that I chose is called America Tropical, it is a mural that was finished in 1932 but became famous way after because of controversy. The artist who painted this mural is the Mexican Artist David Alfaro Siqueiros. When you walk in the museum and you go to the second floor there is a balcony whose purpose is for you to be able to stand there to see the real mural. If you go down to the first floor there
Diego Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo are an important aspect of the Hispanic World and well-known names in Latino art. Rivera and Kahlo knew many famous painters such as Duchamp, Siqueiros, Orozco and Picasso. Picasso became a great friend of the family. Kahlo has influenced many places in Mexico. There are many land marks not only in Mexico but around the world. The Frida Kahlo Museum is located in Coyoacan Mexico in her Casa Azul home (blue house), this is the same place Kahlo was born, grew up, lived with her husband Rivera and died (Gale, 1996). The museum holds collections and embraces the personal effects of both artists shining light on the way of life for affluent Mexican writers and artist during the first half of the century. The Dolores Olmedo Museum at Hacienda La Noria is another museum-house from the 16th century monastery, includes many of Kahlo’s famous paintings such as “The Broken Column,” “Luther Burbank,” and holds a large amount of Rivera’s works of art (Gale, 1996). Rivera’s murals of his wife Frida, himself, and various members of their family and friends can be found at the Secretariat of Public Education (where he met his wife), the Mexico City’s National Palace, the Museo de la Alameda, and the Palace of Fine Arts (Gale, 1996).
Trying to get my destination at the same time as all the other people at the airport. Then going through the check points. Next waiting on the plane to arrive so that we can board the plane. Then the four hour flight to Mexico. It turned out to be a great experience for me and I would love to go on another plane ride soon but this time I know what do and what to
One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. Although I have observed many great types and forms of art in the museum, there were few that interested me the most.
After that, we went to the room, took showers, and got ready. Then we checked out of the hotel and loaded all of the stuff in the car. We took the car and parked it closer to some of the shops that we were going to shop in boardwalk, like some painting
Our first stop was at “Del Mia Casa” restaurant , I was starving since I didn’t dine on the fine cuisine that the airline offered. The smell outside tantalised our taste buds and we just couldn’t wait to eat.
It was my first time going to a museum solely dedicated to Mexican art here in the United States. I’ve been to the Dolores Olmedo Museum in Mexico City which hosts collections by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Unlike any other museums I’ve been to the Dolores Olmedo museum had peacocks and Frida’s favorite dogs the Xoloitzcuintles wandering around the outside premises of the museum.
When my grandmother and I arrived at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California, we first entered the rooms containing 14th to 17th century artwork. In the second room, on the left
finished touring we returned to our hotel and then ate dinner at El Pez de Ora,
The stewardess then directed me towards the back, away from the cockpit. I looked at my ticket and at what seat I'd be sitting in. I had to duck in and around people putting their luggage into the upper compartments and look for my number on the back of my seat that matched my ticket stamp. As I walked past one of the windows, I glanced out and saw the right wing. It somehow gave me reassurance that I'd be fine and I'd soon be having the time of my life. "I'll soon be in the air."
Taking that flight was nothing like the flights I’ve taken before. I had just recently celebrated my fourteenth birthday a week before being told that we were taking a trip. My dad wanted to surprise me for keeping up good grades in school. With my father working in the military and knowing a lot about other countries, I couldn’t have asked for a better gift. Went
