The Goodyear Thunderdome was the first purpose built Oval speedway outside of the continent of America.
Construction started in November 1984 and it was officially opened by the Mayor of Keilor on August 3rd. 1987 although it was christened by Americans Richard Petty, Bobby Hillin Jnr. and Rodney Combs along with local men Jim Richards,Graeme Crosby and Gary Rush.
The first race was only a couple of weeks later when a 300 Km. Touring Car race was run on the combined Oval/road circuit. The race was won by Terry Sheil and John Bowe in a Nissan Skyline(the only time a Japanese car has won on the Thunderdome) from the Commodore of Larry Perkins and Bill O’Brien. Allan Grice had been quickest in practise with a lap of 1m.45.74s and he also set the fastest lap in the race with a time of 1m.46.17s.
Later that year another race took place on the combined circuit and this was a round of the World Touring Car Championship.Pole position went to Klaus Ludwig in an Eggenberger Ford Sierra with a 1m.42.92s but in the race it was his team mates Steve Soper and Pierre Diuedonne who took the honours from Emanuelle Pirro and Roberto Ravaglia in a BMW M3. The race was not without problems as it began to rain very heavily just before the start and so for the only time a race was run on the Thunderdome in the wet. The other feature was that the combined circuit goes in a clockwise direction (same as for AUSCAR) which was fine for the locals but not so good for the European Fords and BMWs.
The first Oval meeting was held on February 28th. 1988 and it was a mixture of Americans, mostly from the Winston West series, and Australians. A bonus for the organisers was that just 2 weeks before the event Bobby Allison, one of the imported stars, won the biggest NASCAR race of them all, the Daytona 500, giving the Thunderdome a huge publicity boost.
Days of Thunder, a 1990 box office classic, displays false information when it comes to the truth behind NASCAR. NASCAR is a professional based company and is headed by only the best. Its new penalty and regulation system and professionalism on and off the racetrack show the truth behind the character of NASCAR. The film Days of Thunder shows a false depiction of the company of NASCAR and prove to show that sometimes even Hollywood, can “get it wrong”.

Every year on Memorial Day auto racing fans around the world wake up in anticipation to see the most famous race in the world. The Indianapolis 500 is an annual IndyCar race that has been run since 1916 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. However, Tony George, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the IRL, is changing everything about the race and the sport.
One of the most famous drivers was a man by the name of Junior Johnson. He was a shiner who had been caught and had spent a year in prison. He got out of prison and went back into the fast money life style of running shine. In his prime he was considered the fastest man on the ridge. He later made his way to NASCAR in 1955 and went on to win over 50 races. He then retired in 1966. Mike Devlin September 30, 2013
Locke and Rousseau present themselves as two very distinct thinkers. They both use similar terms, but conceptualize them differently to fulfill very different purposes. As such, one ought not be surprised that the two theorists do not understand liberty in the same way. Locke discusses liberty on an individual scale, with personal freedom being guaranteed by laws and institutions created in civil society. By comparison, Rousseau’s conception portrays liberty as an affair of the entire political community, and is best captured by the notion of self-rule. The distinctions, but also the similarities between Locke and Rousseau’s conceptions can be clarified by examining the role of liberty in each theorist’s proposed state of nature and civil society, the concepts with which each theorist associates liberty, and the means of ensuring and safeguarding liberty that each theorist devises.

Anyone considering accounting needs to assess whether this career fits his or her interests, abilities, and aspirations. There are certain qualities and qualifications, however, that a person should consider before making a commitment to a particular career field. Selecting a career can take a lot of time, and many people do not choose until they are adults. Contributing to the difficulty in choosing a career is the vast number of vocations from which to choose. The field of accounting alone covers dozens of types of accountants and dozens of jobs. In trying to decide whether accounting is an appropriate career choice, a person should talk with bookkeepers and accountants that have years of experience. Ask questions about their daily work requirements, their likes and dislikes about accounting, and how they became interested in the profession. Questions such as these can give a person insight into the profession and help in considering accounting as a career.

...o you are and accept yourself. Now with this story there is not much in the way of language to support this, but when it comes to point of view it more than makes up for it. The story makes the reader think about who they are, and question whether they are okay with it. It is this provocation of thought that hooks the reader and makes them want to read more and delve deeper into themselves to find out more about who they are. The character, Marilyn, is very bland in the beginning, but as you read on she becomes very relatable, and it almost feels like we are in her place experiencing the constant conflict of who she is and who everyone wants her to be. We hope she can overcome this obstacle and be a better person for it; however, she is still very conflicted at the end making it even more relatable to real life, because not everything can end as a happily ever after.
“Current views concerning Victorian femininity continued to be dominated by the 19th century concept of domestic purity and the association figure of the ideal woman, the ‘angle in the house’, carrying out her mission as wife, mother and daughter” (Swisher). During this era men had ...
“Men inhabit the public sphere, and women, the private” (231) . With that in mind the men and women of the Victorian Era lived in two different worlds. “…Males were active and independent, whereas females were passive and were dependent on males…”(231) Women were to be skilled in the home and men were to be out at work. Men in the public’s eye were to be strong, independent, dominant, and in control (232) . As the reader will observe Mr. James Windibank fits that description perfectly. Women at home were to be quiet, subordinate, and over all viewed as weak by men (233).
