As Performance Studies Cross Arts Project
In small groups we were given a choice of stimuli such as poems,
pictures and ideas. Our group chose the idea of ‘chaos and order’ as
our stimulus because we thought that there would be many ideas to
develop from this. We spent a lot of time discussing the idea of
‘order and chaos’ - they are opposites - there is never a situation
where both occur at the same time yet you cannot have one without the
other. Order is the way most people would like things to be, to keep
order we use laws and rules so that everything should stay in control,
without which there would be chaos. Chaos can be shown in many
different ways such as riots or personal chaos e.g. a mental
breakdown. There is no order in this kind of situation, if there were
to be it would no longer be a riot but a march. We began by drawing
out a spider diagram with the ideas we brainstormed about ‘order and
chaos’.
Using these ideas we decided to base our piece on Obsessive Compulsive
Disorder (OCD) as it seem to express the idea of someone keeping order
so much, to the point where their life becomes chaotic. In order for
us to meet the criteria of this project we decided that we needed to
research OCD so that we could base this piece on factual information.
Our group gained a lot of useful information from the Internet and
books. Fears, worries suspicions and beliefs come into everyday life
but when these doubts start to emerge much more excessively e.g.
spending hours washing clean hands or driving round and round making
sure no road accidents have occurred, these worries start becoming
classed as obsessive compulsive. A lot of people who have been
diagnosed with this disorder can only describe it as mental hiccups,
which cannot be controlled. The cause of OCD is a medical brain
turmoil in which people have trouble processing certain information.
It is also caused by a ‘weak’ or unstable personality. Usually people
with OCD will suffer with certain obsessions as well as compulsions,
but in some cases they may only suffer with one or the other. One of
our group members new someone who suffered with this disorder quite
badly. They had observed this person from the beginning before being
diagnosed with OCD. As a group we decided that we could use this
person as a basis for our piece. This meant that we had some first
hand information on the disorder so we could give our piece some
It seems that money is the root of all evil and can make a man do things that he would
Unions have an extensive history of standing up for workers. They have advocated rights of steelworkers, coal miners, clothing factory employees, teachers, health care workers, and many others. The labor movement is based on the idea that organized workers as a group have more power than individuals would have on their own. The key purpose of any union is to negotiate contracts, making sure workers are respected and fairly compensated for their work. “In theory” unions are democratic organizations, resulting in varying inner authority. Workers look for security within a job a...
It is often said that money is the root of all evil. The Robber Barons of the late 19th century proved this theory without fail. They showed that greed can overtake morals if the conditions are right. It
When I first read about Marina Abramovic, I found her performance art can be both shocking and hold the attention of one. Her work ranges in physical intensity, emotional exposure, and sadness. Marina Abramovic work is about self abuse, self discipline, and unreasonable punishment and great courage. Through the conditions she puts herself and her audience in her performance. In my opinion, I feel Marina Abramovic and my main goal as an artist is not only to completely change the way art is seen by the public, but to push the performance the same line as fine art.
Artists are people who express their feelings and emotions on something they have created. They work there lives on these imaginative pieces, some for a living some just out of the pure enjoyment. Those who make a living on selling their art have to work very hard at making their selves known, for some there art never becomes know they work immensely but to no avail. These artists, some of which could keep up with those who are very famous, have their art fall into an abyss where there art is never heard of or even seen. In today’s world artist have many of ways of putting their selves out there and becoming known in the art industry. Social media and just the internet alone have helped “starving artist” become very well known in the art world.
Greed is a subjectively abstract concept that can vary from person to person as well as from different situations. When one speak of greed, you may justifiably think of negative things, such as unfair deals that leave one side of the party rich and thriving, while the other side is left broken and bleeding. Although greed is commonly thought of as “bad”, there is also such a thing as “good” greed. For example, good greed could be seen as the creation of different inventions which increased productivity and efficiency in life. Inventors such as Eli Whitney and Henry Ford wanted to sell their products to gain revenue while simultaneously giving back to the community from the use of their inventions. Both parties, the inventors and the masses,
Ambition drives many individuals to put all their effort and resources into achieving their goals; but, instead of leaving the sense of accomplishment one wishes to feel- it leaves remorse or a need for far more. Human greed is the cause of the satisfaction one feels while working up to meet a goal and the emotions that go along with it, but when that goes unchecked the pursuit of the goal is far more enjoyable than the accomplishment of it.
As a stagehand you would: load and unload equipment; help carpenters to build and put up scenery; attend rehearsals; move scenery, furniture and heavy equipment during performances; open and close curtains between acts; operate manual and automated scenery-moving machinery; clear the stage and backstage area at the end of the performance.
The visual effects dramatically contributed to the event which made it second most important performance criteria is. The visual effect is made of lighting, the temperature set, the sound surround system, and the resonance. Great performances are accompanied by good lighting. The event had a good lighting. There was a great distribution between the darkness verses light. The color is also important. It was an amazing cold golden color surrounded by dark. It was lovely and relaxing to the eyes. I did not have to blink hundreds of times protecting my eyes due to bad lighting. My eyes were gorgeously and slowly winking. That rapturous lighting was facilitated by great sound .Surround system is a must in all events that sustains good resonance
The Romanticism period is marked by changes in societal beliefs as a rejection of the values and scientific thought pursued during the Age of Enlightenment. During this period, art, music, and literature are seen as high achievement, rather than the science and logic previously held in esteem. Nature is a profound subject in the art and literature and is viewed as a powerful force. Searching for the meaning of self becomes a noble quest to undertake. In the dramatic tragedy of “Faust” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, we find a masterpiece of Romanticism writing that includes the concepts that man is essentially good, the snare of pride, and dealing with the supernatural.
Greed, being a key human condition, has shaped society from the very start. In fact, some scholars believe that greed was the first major milestone of human success, when the first human wondered why he/she had to scrounge around for necessities; it is a part of being human to be greedy. Wanting a new car, to be loved by another, or to desire the feeling of well doing when feeding the needy, these are all factions of greed...
Music and Arts programs all around the country are taking hard hits from budget cuts and money shortages. As these extremely important classes are being cut out of schedules students are losing some of the most valuable things they will ever learn in high school. Of course, because these arts classes are not considered traditional academic courses, they are usually the first to go. The fine arts are so vital to the success of students today and we must fight to keep them in our schools.
Having only been exposed to the performance side of things in high school, learning about the amount of work that goes into production offered me a refreshing look into theatre and all it entails. The hands on experiences of LX2 and SX were eye openers for me in terms of looking at what happens backstage while actors are rehearsing, which is the part of theatre I am most familiar with.
The topic I decided to choose to conduct my Capstone Research on is Copyright in Choreographic Works. Choreography is “Choreographers use dance performances to express ideas and stories. There are many types of dance, such as ballet, tango, modern dance, tap, and jazz (bls.gov). Choreography is also something that should be made from the heart, it’s not something that should be taken from someone else because at that point, it wouldn’t be considered your choreography and it wouldn’t be something you made from your own mind and creativity. Dancing is something you have a passion for and you show your emotions through your movements, so there shouldn’t be a need to copy. The problem now is, many choreographers are starting to steal choreography
The experience I will take away from Arts In Performance, is built on the wealth of new things I tried because of the course. Before the class I had never really listened to the Blues, or even heard of Buddy guy. Now I can say I am a fan. I have seen more performance this year in the last nineteen years of my life combined. There were great and not so great moments, but I don’t regret going to any of the shows.
