Telephones have been a been an essential part of communication and was the first to device to modernise instant communication, the telephone was created between the mid to late 19th century but was patented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, many may argue that he was not the first to create but it is widely accepted that he did have a great deal to do with the telephone becoming prominent within private homes. In most home phone connections even if there are more than one phone in the house it doesn’t mean you could call multiple people at once. Telephones have also been developed to be implemented into networks by connecting them to the internet which gives users the ability to use the telephone on a WAN and have it more accessible this is typically used in business environments were calls need to be cheap and reliable. So using the telephone through the internet is ideal in these circumstances. Within a computer communication is done most commonly with synchronous communication because of a microprocessor clock that runs tasks at scheduled cycles. Which means that the clocks in the devices that are both transmitting data and receiving must be synchronised, this means they must be running at the same time so that the signals are on the same intervals and the data doesn’t have to stop and start the process of sending data. This paralleled postal mail in a form of indirect communication. However, computers were also already based in intercommunication, because computers are systems of smaller functioning devices connected to perform a function or process. The evolution of computers’ communicating then evolved by extending direct connections between these large systems, sharing information. With the invention of the modem, computers could communicate piggybacking a system that people already used. As the modem developed, communications speeds increased.

The invention of the telephone permitted new levels of communication, allowed families connect around the world, and improved military systems, but also served negative consequences, such as breached privacy. If two people wanted to have a conversation, they would have to write letters back and forth, but with the telephone they were able to pick up the receiver, dial the number, and be connected in a matter of minutes. Telephones enabled long-distance communication, which allowed families to converse despite their location. Military officials and soldiers were also able to stay in touch through field telephones as well as keep contact with the president.
