An Interpretation of the Ghost
Ghost is something that some believe and some won't. But still most of them get frighten to some extend, when they watch terrific horror films. Perhaps it is due to the terrific sounds or special effects that imposes ones mind. But there is a specific science that has the ability to explain the concepts of the spirits or ghosts called Adhyathma (A study centered around the soul)in the Ancient Indian script. According to the teachings of the ancient scripture Bhagavad Gita, the brain (and the body in general) is only a mechanical device used by the spirit soul (the actual self). It is described that just as a passenger rides in a chariot, in the same way the spirit soul is riding in this vehicle of the body.
The scriptures state that one who commits suicide will have to remain as a ghost for the period of time that one's body was supposed to exist. A ghost is nothing but a person with no physical body. According to the sankhya system, our body is made up of two coverings, the sukshma-sharira (subtle body) and the sthula-sharira (gross body). The gross body is made up of the panca-bhutas (earth, water, fire, air and ether), and the subtle body is made up of the mind (manas), intelligence (buddhi) and identification (ahankara). It is the subtle body which accompanies the soul into the next body at the time of death.
The gross physical body has a particular duration of existence based on one's prarabdha karma(results of the deeds of his previous incarnation). When one commits suicide, one brings one's physical body to an end prior to it having completed it's allotted time.
One's next body is prepared in the akasha (ether), ready to manifest at the end of one's allotted time (the normal death of one's physical body).
Thus if one was supposed to live for 100 years, one's next body will be waiting for you after that 100 years. If for some reason one were to commit suicide at the age of 50, then one's next body will not be ready, and one will remain in an ethereal state until the balance 50 years of existence pass.
This state of existing as a ghost is a great suffering for the individual, as they lack the senses through which to act. The desires to act remain, as the mind, intelligence and identification of the subtle body are still existing.

Good Old Boy by Willie Morris The book that I chose to read was written by the Mississippi author Willie Morris. The book, Good Old Boy, was written in 1971 and takes place in the small Mississippi town of Yazoo City. The book contains experiences of the author's childhood in this small town. The story began by telling many of the legends of Yazoo City. One of these legends involved a woman who lived by the Yazoo River. She supposedly lured fishermen to her house to kill and bury them in the woods never to be found again. The sheriff eventually found out about her and chased her through the woods into quicksand where she sank and died. Before she was completely under the sand she vowed to return twenty years later to have revenge on the town on May 25, 1904. Her body was retrieved from the quicksand and buried with a giant chain around her grave. On May 25, 1904 the whole town was engulfed in flames. Everything was destroyed in this blaze. The next day, some citizens went to her grave and to their horror the chain had been broken. Another legend was one about Casey Jones, a famous tr...

The problem of dumping refuse into the ocean became a public concern in 1987 when medical waste, such as syringes and needles, washed up on the shores in New Jersey. At the time, AIDS was making headline news. This worried and concerned many people. People wondered where it came from, what it was doing there, if is it contaminated with AIDS or other viruses, and how it got there. Police looked from months to find the cause of this strange event. Then finally they found their victim. A company was paid, in New York, to properly dispose a large load of garbage, which contained medical waste. The company took the load and dumped it into the ocean. In theory, they believed it would be carried away by the Gulf Stream and would eventually sink. Unaware that it contained medical waste such as syringes that floats, they dumped the large load of garbage into the ocean. To a...
Ghosts could be dated back, as far as the pre-literate cultures which is “animism or ancestor worship”("Ghost." wikipedia.). In some of those cultures, there are religious practices that the culture must do in order for their loved one to move on like for instance during a funeral if the spirit doesn't wish to leave there are some “funeral rites and exorcisms that can help p...
The natural end of every human life is death. Some people, for reasons that have never been fully understood, choose to end their own lives. This is called suicide, which means literally ?self-killing?. For all the uncertainty that has surrounded the phenomenon of suicide, this assessment of the problem is probably as accurate as any. The individual seemingly hopeless conflict with the world, decides to end his or her existence in what amounts to a final assault against a society that can no longer be tolerated. In so doing, the person tries to obtain a final revenge on everything and everyone that has caused their feelings of depression.
Many people all over the world have asked themselves this question: “Are ghosts real?” To those who say yes, what exactly is a ghost, and where do they come from? A ghost is considered a spirit or apparition that does not or cannot “move on” or proceed to the afterlife (“Are Ghost Real or” 1) Understanding ghost and where they come from is very difficult because there is not solid evidence when it comes to ghosts and eyewitnesses. One of the causes is that there are so many cultures and religions that believe in different things about life after death (Thadani 1). Also, there is no a universal definition of what a ghost is, what it does, or what it can do (“Are Ghost Real? Science” 2). Due to the over increasing popularity of ghost among tv and movies, the subject is becoming more and more stereotypical. Another reason the existence of ghosts is such a well debated topic is because there are countless eyewitnesses claiming to have seen ghosts (“Are Ghost Real or” 1).
There are many meanings associated with the word ghost. Of course the most common is that a ghost is the Spirit or soul of a person who is no longer living. A spirit is the soul of a person who for what ever reason has not gone on yet. We also have heard many stories of people having encounters with Angels. While these do not exactly qualify as ghosts they are Spirits but may not be of people who have lived. The same is said of what is referred t...
Liminality encompasses all aspects of life after death, including entrance into the realm of the dead or the return to earth. The Hindu death rituals serve to guarantee that loved ones reach the next world and do not return as malignant ghosts. Family members or friends of the deceased perform these ceremonies; therefore, the fate of the dead depends on the action of the living. Axel Michaels states, “When people die, they become ancestors, forefathers, heroes, ghosts or demons, but not dead, not without ‘life’. What they become depends on the…relationship between the deceased and the survivors” (131). The rituals begin even before death occurs; traditionally, such as lying the dying person on the floor, an oil lamp is placed near the head, family members join in prayer and song and the Brahman who performs the funeral rites receives a gift of a cow (133). All of these steps are taken to prepare the person to die, and give him or her chance to accept that death is approaching. By accepting the imminent, one is less likely to leave their body unwillingly and attempt to return to it once they have passed; thus preventing the deceased returning as a hungry ghost
Enjoying the scenic horizon while out at sea, one must remember there is a hidden and imperative responsibility waiting to ruin the precious itinerary for which you have planned. If uncared for, this responsibility can grow, and expand, and build up until it explodes, literally OR figuratively, and cause a health issue from hell. This responsibility that every fisherman, boat enthusiast, and commercial cruise-line knows all too well is none other than…sewage disposal at sea. A sailboat, for instance, has certain serious regulations with which it must abide in order to maintain an environmental and even a fundamental social standing.
So what is suicide? Suicide is where someone takes their own life intentionally. Every year more than 30,000 people in America of all races, cultures, and ages take their life. Among young people, more than 5,000 people kill themselves a year. (Kuehn, 6). The most common methods for committing suicide are: firearms, hanging, and drug overdose. (“Understanding Suicide And Self Harm”). Often suicide acts are under the influence of drugs and/ or alcohol, therefore affecting ones thoughts and actions.
“Ghost, according to tradition, is the spirit of a dead person that returns to the living world. “ (World Book Encyclopedia 2011, 182) There are two separate and distinct types of Ghosts. The first type of Ghost is the typical “Halloween ghost”. This ghost is also referred to as the “Folklore Society’s ghost”. The Folklore Society ghost appears as a shadowy figure in a long trailing robe. It often looks like something straight out of a Hollywood picture.
Furthermore, according to the religious points of view, being dead, as we mention above does not mean that the journey of human soul has come to an end. On the contrary once the soul left the body, it will transform into another living form and will live until the judgment day arrives.
...ic and get ill from it. All this trash can kill the mammals in the ocean even if it’s just floating on top of the water. It’s still harmful to them and humans. It can kill, suffocate or poison the mammal. If humans decide to go swimming in the ocean and choke on a piece of plastic that breaks into pieces and they open there mouth for some reason and get trash in their mouth they can choke and maybe die. Just because people like to put their trash anywhere they please.
If I am loved, liked, or hated then I am not a ghost. IF I am simply not thought of at all by someone then maybe that's what we could consider being a ghost. I would rather be hated then to have someone just be indifferent to me. At least then there is some feeling, motivation, or passion. Something about me has affected this person - even if it is something negative. I would prefer to think of a ghost as the kind of ghost we see in Beloved; a dead person come back to this side of things. The thought of walking through this life as a ghost is much scarier to me than the thought of dying and then becoming a
