Overview:
The text, Writing on Demand: Best Practices and Strategies for Success is designed specifically for teachers by teachers. With a quote on the cover of the text that is highlighted by a bright orange background and explicitly states that this book is “Ideal for SAT, ACT, AP, and State Assessment Exams”, the text quickly announces that its core audience is going to be teachers within the middle school to high school range. Given the aim of this text, it proves to be a highly beneficial work for aiding teachers in understanding how to adequately prepare their students for the rigors of writing on demand, be it for regular classroom assignments or standardized tests. After a thorough analysis of the text I found many of my own teaching values reflected throughout the work. Also, I discovered that by taking a multi-faceted approach to teaching students how to write—wherein the focus lies on teaching students a wide range of activities that go far beyond the basic foundation of grammar and sentence structure to also include prompt analysis, peer review and understanding how their writing will be graded--they will likely be more fully prepared for whatever writing assignment that is directed towards them.
Audience:
The well-defined contents of this work, the professional background of the authors (all of whom are former high school teachers) and the in-depth works cited provided at the end of the chapters all clearly indicate that this text is designed as a professional resource. This is further revealed by the publishing company, Heinemann, which touts itself as a “publisher of professional resources and a provider of educational services for teachers, kindergarten through college” (Heinemann). With the rese...

...these essays very enticing and thought-provoking as it required both a thorough analysis of the essay as a whole as well as an analysis of the breakdown of essential grammatical components. Given the challenges involved, I believe this was probably my favorite assignment we had to tackle throughout this course.
As I look back at the class as a whole I believe my understanding of many of the critical aspects of teaching has become more focused. Although I had often reflected on a number of these areas previously, such as grading and my personal teaching philosophy, I found that the information and opinions shared by both the professor and other potential and current teachers in the classroom really opened the door for helping me realize how much I still needed to consider throughout the rest of my education as I prepare to become a professional educator myself.
If one compared an apple to an orange, surely one would think they were not similar. In reality, they are alike in different ways. Feed by M.T Anderson and Disney Pixar’s Wall-E share an immense number of similarities in their plots and story lines. First, the...
Within the period of 1900-1920, many national reforms were rising to the top as Progressive Era reformers and the federal government heard the voices of the people. The effectiveness of Progressivism is a controversial subject for some, but the future was changed through the events of any actions a president made, the rights of people, and unfair treatment and conditions. This era brings changes to our society that also changes the future of it. These two decades brought forth successful times in bettering America.
...r race is just as good as the White race. Also, through the failure of assimilation Native Americans were able to keep their reservations which still thrive today, not in glory through which they once thrived, but they are still around. It wasn’t easy for these two races to get to the point at which they are now, and prejudices against them do still exist in the world, but hopefully one day races of every kind will be able to live in harmony with one another, without the need to make everyone like themselves.
During class, the Progressive Era from 1890-1916 was discussed. The countless reforms happened in the Progressive Era were bound to be controversial. Nevertheless, based on our study, it was my contention that the Progressive Era was successful on account of the changes made on social welfare and on the role of presidents.
However, the first historian to successfully define and explain the Progressive Movement was historian Richard Hofstadter. With his 1954 book Pulitzer Prize winning book, The Age of Reform, Hofstadter links the major reform movements before and after the turn of the twentieth century. Instead of citing specific reforms or leaders, Hofstadter deals with the ideas connecting Populism, Progressivism and the New Deal, while examining the differences and similarities between them. Other historians subsequently conduct their own research and formulate their own opinions in response to Hofstadter’s book. Peter G. Filene writes in 1970, “An Obituary for ‘The Progressive Movement’”, which proposes the Progressive Movement cannot be considered a movement at all because of its disunity and lack of identity. Richard L. McCormick writes “The Discovery that Business Corrupts Politics: A Reappraisal of the Origins of Progressivism” in 1980 to offer the corruption of business was the driving force behind Progressivism. Finally, Paula Baker argues in the Progressive era government adopted the domestication role and social policies previously hel...
The Progressive Era was a time period between the years 1900-1920 and it marked a time in American history in which society was bursting with enthusiasm to improve life in the industrial age by making political and social changes through government action that ultimately led to a higher quality of life for American citizens. Progressives were known for their beliefs in limiting the power of big business, strengthening the power of the states, and were advocators against corruption and social injustice. These progressive reformers as well as the Federal Government successfully managed to improve the quality of life and establish a precedent for a move active government, although neither was completely successful in solving significant issues the nation faced.

As consumers we are exposed to a number of texts on a daily basis, these texts can be anything from movie posters to books to DVD covers, from these, assumptions are made as to what the product, movie or book is about. Throughout this essay, Magnolia will undergo a textual analysis; more specifically this essay will provide the most likely interpretation of the text from the audiences view. The concepts of semiotics, framing and genre will be used throughout to help in the discussion and “investigation into how meaning is created and communicated” (Fruend 2013).
Nationally, roughly four million animals are killed in shelters every year. Of these, roughly 95% of all shelter animals are healthy and treatable. (No Kill Advocacy Center). No animal should have to ever be a part of these awful statistics. What will it take to help save these innocent animals from being killed senselessly? Animal kill shelters are horrible, inhumane, and overall completely unnecessary for multiple reasons: No Kill shelters improve adoption rates, all animals lives are valuable, and No Kill shelters save more money than other shelters.
Above all, Transcendentalism reveres individuality and moral conscience. A Transcendentalist’s convictions, consequently, are superior to those of his friends, fellow citizens, and even the government. Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson, two influential Transcendentalist essayists and poets of mid-19th century Massachusetts, impart a message of societal withdrawal, exceptionality, and a meaningful spiritual center. Despite the liberating commentary in both “Civil Disobedience” and “Self-Reliance,” written by Thoreau and Emerson, respectively, the quotations from each piece exemplify different ethics. Thoreau desires an alternate society in which the individual is free from governmental restriction. Emerson, on the other hand, is more
After taking time to reflect on everything have learned throughout this class and the rest of my courses, it seems as though I have learned a lot and have developed many skills that will allow me to progress as a teacher. This class allowed me to gain a better understanding of education laws, as well as what brought these laws about. Additionally, this class also shined light on many aspects of working with special needs students that I was not aware of before.
Many causes led to the Civil War. This all happened around the mid 1800s. It was a conflict between the Northern and Southern states. Both sides had their own view on slavery, and their separate views caused contentions between the two. Both had different views on whether to expand or stop slavery growth to the West, or have slavery at all.
Einstein’s education was unconventional for a person who was to become a success. Early on, he was failing a large number of his courses; and he transferred from a German school at age fifteen to a Swiss school, so that he could avoid compulsive military service in the German armed forces. By the age of sixteen, he officially became a school dropout. His grade school principle made the statement to his parents, “it didn’t matter what profession the boy prepared for because he wo...
[The students may not be familiar with some words like buoy and parasailing in the exploratory activity on day one. To support these students, a picture of these words will be provided for the students so they can understand where to place them on the number line. Also on the first day, the second part of the exploratory activity tells the students to write an equation to find the distance between two people in the activity. The provide support for the students who do not know what it means to write an equation, I will ask the students what they think an equation is. I will then tell them than an equation is something with an equal sign in it. The main support for learning on the second day of the segment is for the students to notice the position
