Writing Technology
When I was assigned to create a format for writing to take place on, I was shocked, to say the least. This project was unlike any I had encountered before in my years at school. I began to tax my brain up and down to come across a suitable way to write. I began thinking about what I could use in my very own home. Since I could not use a pen or pencil, I turned to the idea of carving my words into something, as the ancient Sumerians did. After all, as Walter Ong says, "The first script, or true writing, that we know was developed among the Sumerians in Mesopotamia [...] around the year 3500 BC." Ideas flew through my head about which medium to carve, such as wood, or even bread.
The plausibility of these formats got the better of them, however. Wood would create far too much effort for a simple school assignment, not to mention be possibly hazardous to my health (I don’t exactly trust my own physical abilities to keep me uncut in that particular process.) Bread would be a problem because of the spoiling nature of its own organic makeup.
Then, after much deliberation, I came to the decision of using a Styrofoam plate. It seemed a likely source for me to draw inspiration upon...after all, it was soft and malleable, perfect for leaving carven characters upon. It was small and light, providing for extremely simple transportation--in fact many could be carried at any one time. And most importantly, Styrofoam is non-biodegradable. That means that, with the proper storage and upkeep, a carved Styrofoam plate could be preserved indefinitely, leaving records for generations to come.
I decided, in my carving, to create the simple greeting of "Hi There!", as it would be simple to create, simple to understan...

...riting itself, and the work that goes into it, I truly have a greater understanding of the inner workings of the act of writing, and therefore feel as though I have accomplished more simply by writing.
By having this dual appreciation for my work, both for content and for style, I can truly say that the project of creating my own medium has forced me to become not just a better writer, but indeed a better person for it.

I am more knowledgeable about invention, arrangement, style, and delivery, all in which create a masterful piece of text. A few examples, I have learned to organize and construct my thoughts and ideas clearer. I have been taught to use stronger transitions and focus more on the delivery and content of the body element of essays. Further, the instructions and advice I have received throughout this term have influenced my understanding of the purpose of writing. My outlook on writing has been modified by shifting my perception of writing from, writing to prove I am a good writer by perceiving it as using “fluffy” or BIG words to impress my audience. I grew to understanding that good writing’s purpose is to engage the writer by mind-striking ideas and arguments, which therefore will prove and title me as a “good writer”.
As mentioned in the first paragraph, I believe that I have improved my writing skills based on interpretation of writer’s pieces.
Racial Profiling usually occurs when a combination of safety, public protection and stereotype are involve to judge a person. Racial profiling needs to be separated from criminal profiling which is based on actual behavior by a person and not a stereotype. The thing about stereotypes is that anyone can do it even people who are good and not bias. When examining ourselves and really look at our first judgment of people, it is noticed that our own assumptions and biases would lead many of us to realize that we have stereotyped people m...
Although individuals try to stop using caffeine, some cannot because it has a strong hold on them and some people can stop. The people that doesn’t stop may fit the clinical definition of caffeine addiction. “In this study, 94% of participants experienced withdrawal when they attempted to stop using caffeine, and 94% continued to use caffeine even though they knew that they might be harming their health with their use.” Women stop taking in caffeine during their pregnancies. Studies suggest, caffeine can be harmful to a growing baby. Most individuals with mental illnesses might be asked to stop taking caffeine. (Caffeine Addiction). All races of women consume 200 milligrams of caffeine daily. They drink coffee, black tea, green tea, and soda. About 89 percent of United States women ages 18 to 34 consume two cups of coffee a day. Even though caffeine affects men more strongly than women, caffeine changes women's estrogen levels; it has different effects in Asian, white, and black women. Studies showed that the effect differ between men and women based on the caffeine intake they consume. Men consume 7 milligrams of caffeine a day. Other men consume 85 to 170 milligrams of caffeine a day. Thirtynine percent does not drink caffeine at all.
According to Walter Willett, a professor of epidemiology and nutrition at Harvard school of public health, one risk of drinking caffeine is an increase in bone fractures because caffeine causes calcium loss which then affects bone density (Lovett 3). Mostly, this effect occurs in people who drink four or more cups of caffeine a day. Too much caffeine entered into the body causes bones to break more easily than if drinking no caffeine at all. In the lon...
Racial profiling in America, as evidenced by recent events, has reached a critical breaking point. No longer can an African American, male or female, walk into a store, school, or any public place without fear of being stereotyped as a person of suspicion. Society constantly portrays the African American
In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.
In the past few years, racial profiling has become a very prominent issue in American society. In “Racial Profiling,” “Racial Profiling is a controversial and illegal discriminatory practice in which individuals are targeted for suspicion of crimes based on their ethnicity, race, or religion rather than on evidence-based suspicious behavior” (Para. 11). Many people are wronged because of this phenomenon and effects many of them in multiple ways. Racial profiling is effecting many people and it needs to be addressed.
Throughout my college career I noticed how different my form of writing has become. When I came to this realization, it made me wonder why this is so. Is it that I am simply just writing a lot more than I have in the past? Is it because I am simply maturing as a writer and combining all the techniques I am picking up on my own? All these questions, along with many more, rambled around my head sounding like a resounding gong struggling to find a true conclusion. As the school year went on I came to find out the truth about why my writing has changed, which brought me to a rewarding conclusion.
...he situation in the story is not more important than his subjective voice where he tries to undermine the original story with responses that are generally negative and cynical. This is called anti-story (Denning). Last but not least, this passage clearly exemplifies all of the major characteristics of postmodernism, which is the type of literature DeLillo had chosen to illustrate.
Throughout history, writing has had many various uses that have helped record information from history to the present day. Writing has obtained many different uses as to how and what we use writing today. When writing was formed in 3200 B.C. it was used to record and communicate. We have since then used writing for numerous issues such as recording information in which we may learn about the past, and for poetry or literature for people, both children and adults, to read and learn from. People throughout history and today even use writing for religious reasons such as writing out a prayer to God or even taking note on what has happened or talked of in the sermon.
Somehow after all the assignments, and putting a good amount of effort into the papers that I wrote, I have become a better writer. My writing has improved because I have concentrated on two very important areas. With help from a good teacher, I have become a better writer by focusing my improvement on my skills in the areas of content and procrastination.
Although there is very few data that caffeine containing energy drinks may temporarily improve alertness, but they enhance strength and decrease power (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health). Excessive intakes of beverages lead to adenosine receptors prone to feeling increased anxiety. Energy drinks cause insomnia, which is effect of caffeine. Lack of sleep has been seen to cause impaired body function. They also cause some people to shake and be anxious. This can cause emotional issue. Where people used to take energy drinks regularly they eventually become addicted, which is one of the serious psychological effect. Beverages are the cause of increase in stress hormone, which leads to stress among consumers. In general, other psychological effects are impaired cognition, risky behavior, stress and nervousness.
Writing is all about progressing, and that's how I think about my writing. No one was born to be a writer but one can always improve to become a better writer. As an international student, although I started learning English at a very young age, I still found writing in English was very hard. Especially when I started learning from English professors, I realized that most of the words and phrases I learned back in China were wrong. However, during several years of English writing training, with the help of technology and a philosophy professor whom I learned from, I believe I have became a better writer. Technology transfers me to a more efficient writer by changing me from “pen-writer” to a “computer writer”, while professor Greenberg shaped me into a more precise writer.
