D1 critically evaluate the purpose and importance of health related
fitness for two contrasting sports

All components of health related fines are important for the sporting
performance as well as health perspective. Health related consists of
Strength, muscular endurance, aerobic endurance, flexibility and body
composition. Health related and skill related components of fitness
are clearly different. Skill related consists of Agility, Balance,
reaction time, power, speed and co-ordination.

Health related fitness includes of

· Strength is the ability of a muscle to excerpt force for a short
period of time. A good level of strength helps maintain good posture
in old age, it helps maintain independent life style, for something as
simple as climbing stairs at home/work. helps avoid injuries for
example back injuries, it also helps with co-ordination while
moving(running/Walking)

· Aerobic Endurance, (stamina) A term for someone's aerobic fitness
capacity - their ability to do prolonged exercise without tiredness.
Aerobic endurance is important for sporting activities because good
levels of aerobic fitness will supply the muscles with oxygen required
for exercise. Aerobic endurance is one of the most vital influences in
our lifestyle and health. The benefits of having it is, it Decreases
body fat, increases oxygen into the muscles, increases efficiency of
the digestive system, decreases stress levels and also increases the
removal of waste products.

· Muscular Endurance, combination of strength and endurance. The
ability to perform many repetitions against a given resistance for a
prolonged period. Muscular endurance is a specific muscle or muscle
group, making repeated contractions over a period of time. A few
things which require muscular endurance are vacuum cleaning and
cleaning windows, these are classed as using a good level of muscular
endurance because they require a number of muscular contractions over
some time.

· Flexibility is the ability of a specific joint. A flexible joint
will possess a greater range of motion, which should aid the
performance skills. Flexibility is important and should be
specifically trained. You should always stretch before and after
sports to reduce the risk of cramp. Benefits of Flexibility are it
improves posture, prevents lower back pains, maintains healthy joints,
reduces risks of injury, better balance whilst moving, and reduces
muscle soreness, better blood flow and nutrients to the joints.

· Body composition, Has two components: the amount of fat mass
(weight) and the amount of fat-free mass (muscle, bone, skin and
organs) in the body. An increase in body fat can reduce the fitness of
a sportsperson making him/her slower.

Purpose and importance of health related fitness

The fitness requirements that will be needed for

Boxing

· Strength, to produce power in the punch,

· Balance, poor balance will make the chances of being knocked over
easier, good balance gives a better chance of having a punch with
power

· muscular endurance, this is needed as a boxer is boxing for 36
minutes, so if muscular endurance is poor it is likely the component
will be beaten

· Speed, a good level of speed is good as the faster you are the
quicker the boxer can move around the ring and throw boxes quick
before the opposition can react

· Aerobic endurance, the boxer is forever moving around the ring so
having aerobic endurance will benefit the boxer so training is
necessary.

· Flexibility, the boxer needs to be able so dodge punches thrown by
the opposition so flexibility is a good requirement to have.

Rugby

· Strength, because rugby is’contact game' strength is needed in
situations such as getting the component down and in the scrum.

· Speed, this is needed for when the player is sprinting to get to the
Try line, to score without being stopped.

· Power, this is needed in the legs when jumping for the ball

· Agility, when a player is running with the ball to avoid being
tackled agility is needed for the player to switch directions.

· Balance, is needed when a player is changing direction without
falling over.

· Aerobic endurance for the length of time a match lasts

· muscular endurance for running up and down the pitch

Cricket

· Balance, balance is needed if you loose balance whilst playing
cricket it reduces speed and power.

· aerobic endurance, some games can last a long period of time so to
have Aerobic endurance is an advantage

· Strength, Good strength in your arms is good as it can help give a
strong shot in hitting the ball as well as bowling the ball at a
speed.

· Speed, because in cricket there are times when you have to run to
run between the wickets it is important to have speed as you have to
get to the wicket before the fielders strike you out.

· Co-ordination-hand dye co-ordination is needed as you have to hit
the ball with the bat so you need to know exactly when to swing the
bat to hit the ball at the correct time.
