Exploring Different Organisms and Their Size
Different organisms are of different sizes. If I take an example of
two organisms such as an amoeba, which is a single celled organism and
an elephant, which is a multicellular organism I can see that they are
obviously of different sizes.

Since an amoeba is small it has a large surface area compared to its
volume. Since an elephant is large its surface area is small in
comparison with its volume.
As can be seen below if one increases the surface area of an object,
the total volume increases but the surface area: volume ratio
decreases.

Zebra mussels have now found there way to the United States originating from the Caspian Sea and sought habitation, originally, in Lake St. Claire when ballast water brought them in. From there, zebra mussels have spread and have caused havoc to the environments and its biodiversity, specifically, Presque Isle. Zebra mussels are filter feeders of zooplankton and phytoplanktons, making the water appear clearer, but not cleaner. They have negatively impacted the existence of clams, walleye and several other organisms. In order to preserve the biodiversity of Presque Isle, zebra mussels must be culled and controlled. Several methods that can be utilized to achieve this goal is by chlorination, poison, scraping, etc.

Zooplankton is a very diverse group of organisms that form an integral part of the microscopic animals that make up plankton in the water columns of lakes, ponds, rivers, estuaries and open-ocean. These organisms play important roles in the aquatic food web and can greatly affect fisheries among species that rely on a diet of zooplankton early in their life cycle. Taking the time to study these microscopic organisms would be beneficial in regards to understanding the early lives of larval fish, as well as how abundance may affect water quality throughout the year. In addition to being a main player in pelagic food webs, zooplankton metabolism has a close connection with the regulation and exchange of carbon dioxide (CO2) between
Microbiology is the study of organisms that are too small to be seen by the naked eye. These living organisms, known as microorganisms, are believed to be the cause of infectious diseases long before they were discovered. My interest in microorganisms stems from personal experience with the impacts they have on every aspect of human life. Microbiology is a crucial area of knowledge and study in life sciences, and research continues to aid us in understanding the world the around us.
This is a series of test ran on a being S.A.M. aka Supersized Animalistic Monster. There are five test that were conducted label A-E.
Increments of five minutes were used for measuring the creatures. By the end of the experiment, the creature in Sprite had grown to double in length. The creature grown in water also doubled exactly in length. However, while the lengths were the same, creature two gained much more mass than creature one. Creature one grew from one point zero five grams to four point seventy-four grams. In comparison, creature two started the same as creature one, and grew to five point six grams.
In the novel, “Freakonomics,” by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner, many topics and their hidden sides are brought up that not many people think twice about. This book has no one theme. Instead, it is about “stripping a layer or two from the surface of modern life and seeing what is happening underneath.”(Levitt and Dubner, 2005, pg. 11) They are not looking at the surface of common occurrences or issues, but passed what most people see. They explain the hidden side to everything. This ranges from topics about choosing your child’s name to how guns affect the crime rate.
As the gelatin cube sizes were cut into smaller pieces, the surface area to volume ratio increases. Surface area to volume ration is very important in living organisms, since all the nutrients and oxygen need to diffuse through the cell membrane into the cells. The surface area to volume ratio affects the rate in which the salt diffused through the solution by how the salt diffused out of the gelatin and into the water this relates to small cells that have a faster rate of diffusion for the nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell and out of the cell quicker. Whereas if the cells were bigger, the rate of diffusion for the nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell would take too long and the cell would probably not survive. So the surface area to volume ratio in cells is vital since the smaller they are the faster the rate of diffusion of the nutrients and oxygen can go in and out for the cell to be able to grow and survive.
Humans need various things in our lives in order for us to continue our growth. When we are infants, we need milk to meet our daily nutritional values. As we get older we need plenty of physical activity. We also need to rest often to allow our bodies a chance to repair themselves. Microbes are no different in that they need many things for them to survive and grow. In the following paragraphs, I’d like to look at five factors that can affect a microbe’s ability to grow.
Arthropods are in the kingdom Animalia which is in the subphylum Arthropoda. A species can be classified as an Arthropod if they have an exoskeleton, a coelom, and if they are mostly dioecious. An “ exoskeleton is an external skeleton made of chitin. [A] coelom is fluid filled cavity between organs and body wall” (Babin,2017). Examples of Arthropods are: spiders, ticks, millipedes, and centipedes. The objective of this experiment was to find Arthropods and test. Different habitats were established to see which will produce a greater amount of Arthropod. It was believed that the Arthropod diversity of a shaded area will be more that that of an area near a canal. The shaded area would have more arthropod diversity because more plants would be around it. Since there will be leaves and trees, plant diversity will be greater. Also, having “ plant diversity can positively affect arthropod{s}” ( Bennett and Gratton, 2013) because there will be more arthropods to utilize.
The critiques of deep ecology from Murray Bookchin are typically negative ideas that downplay the aspect of deep ecology, while in fact, not every aspect is negative. Deep ecology was the first national movement that was sparked by Arne Naess. The idea of deep ecology brought interest into the world of conservationism and was the motivation for environmental ideals. Deep ecology could reach such a large audience because its ideas are very appealing. Social Ecology is a critical social theory founded by Murray Bookchin. Conceptualized as a critique of current social, political, and anti-ecological trends, it advocates a reconstructive, ecological, communitarian, and ethical approach to society. Social ecology and deep ecology are contrasting,
Have you ever wanted to slap eight people at once? Or if you're more of a mushy, touchy, feely person, have you ever wanted to hug eight people at once? An octopus can do either or both of these if they want to! So you know an octopus is lucky being able to do this but what's an octopuses habitat? Since they can slap eight things at once do they have predators? Or since we're on the facty facts subject where do they live?
Comb jellies or Ctenophores are basically fake jellyfish. Like jellyfish they are transparent are transparent, but these lacking stinging cells are basically giant balls of see-through goo. These balls of goo are located throughout most marine environments, at varied depths and temperatures they are very good conformers. The most prominent feature of Ctenophores is their cilia. Cilia are hair-like structures that are used to help this species swim. Being fake jellyfish the comb jellies are extremely predacious, they entrap food and suck them up and are known for being cannibalistic and swallowing each other whole.
wonderful looking animals are not as large as one might think. Their size range between
