Biography of Bill Gates
William (Bill) H. Gates, he's a man of few words, many ideas, and he’s
the richest man on Earth. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in
Seattle Washington. His father was an attorney and his mother was a
school teacher. (Bill Gates, 1) Bill excelled in school, at Lakeside a
private school. (Dickson, 91) At Lakeside he got his first encounter
with computers, and it’s there that he first learned to program.
Lakeside had a pretty big budget so they bought a computer for
the kids to play on. Many children took turns playing on it, but some
got known as the “computer nerds”. Bill Gates was one of them. Another
one was Paul Alan who played a large roll in the development of
Microsoft, a multi-billion dollar business. Bill and his programming
friends started up a club at Lakeside just for programming. They would
make programs and sell them. At one point Bill was kicked out, but was
quickly invited back in because his superb business skills were needed
to make profit. Bill made his first program when he was thirteen years
old, it was a tic-tac-toe program. (Dickson, 15) Since then he has
advanced rapidly. One of his first big programs has “Traf-o-data,”
which monitored traffic at stop lights. This program never really hit
it big. At this time the government wasn’t interested in investing
money in computers, but Bill saw a great future for them.
When Bill graduated from Lakeside he started attending Harvard
University. (Dickson, 91) There Bill found people who were smarted
then him, something that he never found at Lakeside. Yet Bill rarely
attended class, he was too busy starting up his business involving
computers. A personal computer called MITS Altair had just come out,
but it had no OS (Operating System). So Bill and Paul Alan set out to
make one before any other company. They made an OS called BASIC. It
could do simple task such as add, subtract, multiply, and divided;
In modern society, it is hard to come across an individual that is truly a Renaissance man. Not many people are able to encompass all of the traits that come together to make this well rounded person. Bill Gates, on the other hand, possesses the traits that are present in a Renaissance man. He is honorable, smart, confident, proficient, intelligent, humble, knowledgeable, kind, generous, socially inclined, affable, respectful, athletic, and a writer. All of these traits make him the jack of all trades that a Renaissance man is supposed to be.
Henry Louis Gates Jr. was born in 16th September, 1950, in West Virginia, Keyser. He studied and traveled globally before he became department head in African-American studies, at Harvard University. Henry Gates is an acclaimed critic and author who has disclosed a wide range of literary gems. He is an educator, an American literary critic, a writer, a scholar, as well as an editor. Henry was the first black person to be offered a fellowship by the Mellon Foundation. On top of that, he has received several honorary awards and degrees for his research, development, and teaching of academic institutions to learn the black culture (Dorman 135). Gates was chosen, in 2012, to offer the Jefferson Lecture. In addition, this was done for the purpose of acknowledging his eminent intellectual achievements in humanities. On the other hand, he has hosted many PBS television miseries inclusive of the travel and history program, Finding Your Roots (2012), the African American Lives, and many others. Henry sits on several arts, research and cultural institutions boards. He serves in Harvard University as the Alphonse Professor whereby he is W. E. B. director (Dorman136-137). Bill Gates has to learn play spontaneously or just let his hair down. It is hard for him tends to inhibit that side of his by being too self-conscious. He too concerned with the impression that he is making. Bill Gates always work very hard at all times such as some sport or creative medium in order to success, for what he wants, very much to be noticed, acknowledged, and recognized as special in some way. As a country America could benefit a lot with more college graduates, but with so many things happening on college campuses nowadays with racial injustices, sexual assault, and rising tuition lots of young people are choosing to opt out of the traditional college path. In 2009 president Obama announced that he was going to try to raise the amount of college graduates, so we can reigen leadership on out workforce. He was trying to raise the amount of graduates from a 41% to a 60%, but by the end of his presidency the chances of that happening got smaller and smaller.
