Aunt Kiki - Original Writing
There she is, the person with no self respect. It is as if all the
dignity has been drained out of her to all that’s left is a mindless
zombie. Walking into the room with not a care in the world of what she
looked like or even what other people thought of her. While she enters
the room the distinct odour of tobacco and burnt shrubs fills my lungs
and nostrils, the fetid smell of her clammy body embraces me. Why kill
yourself for a white stick (cigarettes) and me?, my aunt was always a
arrogant and proud woman but very bigoted, that’s why she never
listened to anyone else and the cause of her becoming like this.
Its not that she’s not pretty but, her desperation envelopes her inner
beauty. But her outfit is acceptable today. In the kitchen as usual
with her madcap but somehow admirable hairstyle. The atypical use of
jet black and electric blue colour make her hair look like a swirling
vortex, swallowing the galaxy. Today she has decided to show of her
long, spider like legs, wrapped around her a blue denim skirt. It
looks rather like a rubber band tied around her waist. Her arms are
toned and she’s naturally tanned. Stepping into the garden she
glistens like the sun (which she never fails to show of her skin)
unfortunately, the tight top shows her belly that looks like jelly.
Her flab sticks out, bobs up and down as she strides. Her top is a

espadrilles spiral up to her knees making a criss cross pattern, the
heels themselves are about 6 inches high, which make her look like a

The Jilting of Granny Weatherall by Katherine Ann Porter. Having read "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" by Katherine Anne Porter once before, I thought it would be a good idea to revisit the short story. With more understanding of the story now, it is much easier to consider the how Granny's actions are acceptable, rather than rash at times. Granny's character is one that everyone can relate to because each one of us manages to feel sorry for her through the problems she must face along her long road to death. I also found myself wanting her to get to see George one more time, because she loved him so much.
“The Jilting of Granny Weatherall,” a short story by Katherine Anne Porter, describes the last thoughts, feelings, and memories of an elderly woman. As Granny Weatherall’s life literally “flashes” before her eyes, the importance of the title of the story becomes obvious. Granny Weatherall has been in some way deceived or disappointed in every love relationship of her life. Her past lover George, husband John, daughter Cornelia, and God each did an injustice to Granny Weatherall. Granny faces her last moments of life with a mixture of strength, bitterness, and fear. Granny gained her strength from the people that she felt jilted by. George stood Granny up at the altar and it is never stated that she heard from him again. The pain forced Granny to be strong.
One truth we learn about human nature is that men often use women for there looks because thats the only thing that attracts them. As soon as the women lose their beauty, or if the beauty comes with to much baggage then the men back out leaving the women hurt.
on a scale from 1 to 3, the importance men gave to good looks rose from 1.50 to 2.11. But for women, the importance of good looks in men rose from 0.94 to 1.67. In other words, women in 1989 considered a man look’s more important than men considered women’s looks 50 years earlier
the past has been very successful. All I can do is leave it in God's
Most men think that they look good enough and worry about other things that are more important to them. According to Dave Berry, “Most men, I believe, think of themselves as average-looking.” Dave Barry states that the average man “stops thinking about his appearance and devotes his mind to more critical issues, such as the Super Bowl”. This is true because out of all honesty, men don't really care that much
“The problem is that women generally do not think of their looks in the same way that men do” (4).

“The Jilting of Granny Weatherall” by Katherine Ann Porter is a short story about an elderly woman on her deathbed. The setting of the story takes place in the mind of Granny Weatherall and allows for a stream of consciousness. Katherine Ann Porter utilizes this unique setting to portray how a momentous event impacted Granny Weatherall’s life and personality. Nearly sixty years before the time of the story Granny was jilted at the altar by her fiancé George. Now, as she lays dying this is one of the just a few memories she is reflecting on. Granny’s reflection on her jilting only seems natural because the event impacted nearly every part of her life, including her fear of wastefulness, her organized lifestyle, and the ability to truly love.

Society has indoctrinated men and women to believe that in order to be considered “beautiful” you must look like the images on television, billboards, and magazines.
Let’s face it. Apperance is relevant. No matter how many times society tells us that it does not matter, people only care for good-looking people. Most of us do not comprehend that beauty is only skin-deep; there are only a select few who care about what is truly on the inside. However looking good makes you feel better about yourself. Men and women have different takes on beauty. Men are attracted to physical beauty, as women are more attracted to solidity.
In conclusion, while a person’s looks usually provokes our very initial attraction, it is not the most important characteristic when it comes to a romantic relationship. As I have highlighted above there is a combination of factors that would influence interpersonal attraction. Based on Sternberg’s “Triangular” theory of love, maintaining a “gold-standard” relationship of love, the relationship needs to have three factors. It states that only by having intimacy, passion and commitment in a relationship, can you have true consummate
