M.C. Escher and Salvador Dahlia
Maurits Cornelis Escher and was born on June the 17th, 1898 in Leeuwarden Netherlands. Escher was not encouraged to be an artist at a young age. He was encouraged to learn carpentry and other craft skills by his father. At school, he was an average student generally, but showed obvious artistic talent early in his schooling. Escher's was fascinated by the art of structure and this is shown in a lot of his work. His early work however, tended towards realistic portrayals of the landscape and architecture observed during his travels. When Escher visited the Alhambra, in Granada, he was fascinated by the Moorish ornamentation's that filled the entire space on walls. This lay the foundation of his work after 1937, of which he had produced some of his most famous work. These works involve repeated patterns and regular divisions of the plane, impossible constructions, and infinite space. His work from then and until his death in 1972 was driven by his unique understanding of mathematical concepts (http://wwwmcescher.com/html). Escher was thus able to bring art and science together
Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dalí I Domenech was born May 11, 1904 in the small town agricultural town of Figueres, Spain. The son of a prosperous notary, Dalí spent his boyhood in Figueres and at the family's summer home in the coastal fishing village of Cadaques where his parents built his first studio. As an adult, he made his home with his wife Gala in nearby Port Lligat. Many of his paintings reflect his love of this area of Spain. As an artist, Salvador Dalí was not limited to a particular style or media. The body of his work, from early impressionist paintings through his transitional surrealist works, and into his classical period, reveals a constantly growing and evolving artist. (http://www.daliweb.org/bio.html) Dalí worked in all media, leaving behind a wealth of oils, watercolors, drawings, graphics, and sculptures, jewels and objects of all descriptions.
Both artists have there own style of artistic structure that is very similar in that it no other artists can duplicate there works. They share an individuality that is unmatched. All though from very different back rounds. Escher and Dali have a style that is not understood other

Salvador Dali was a modern master of art. He unleashed a tidal wave of surrealistic inspiration, affecting not only fellow painters, but also designers of jewelry, fashion, architecture, Walt Disney, directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, performers like Lady Gaga, and Madison Street advertisers. Filled with antics of the absurd, Dali fashioned a world for himself, a world which we are cordially invited to experience his eccentricity, his passions, and his eternal questioning nature. Dali’s surreal paintings transport us to fantastic realms of dream, food, sex, and religion. Born on May 11, 1904, Dali was encouraged by his mother to explore, to taste, to smell, to experience life with all of its sensuality. As a boy, Dali often visited the Spanish coastal town of Cadaqués with his family. It was here that he found inspiration from the landscape, the sea, the rock formations, the bustling harbor, with ships transporting barrels of olives and troves of exotic spices. Dali was impressed by the Catholic churches, and their altars with the portrayal of Christ and of the angels and saints gracefully flying overhead, yet frozen in time and marble. It was in Cadaqués that Dali declared “I have been made in these rocks. Here have I shaped my personality. I cannot separate myself from this sky, this sea and these rocks.” It was in
Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes, better known as Francisco Goya, was born in 1746 in Fuendetodos, Spain. This was during the age of Romanticism, the art period that glorified emotion, imagination, and nature. He moved to Saragossa with his family, where he began to study art at the age of 14. Goya studied under local artist José Luzán Martínez, his teacher. He learned to paint by copying the styles of other artists, such as Diego Velázquez and Rembrandt. Afterwards, Goya moved to Madrid. There, he worked with fellow painters Francisco and Ramón Bayeu y Subías, who were brothers. He married the brothers’ sister in 1773, Josefa Bayeu. Before his marriage, he had travelled to Italy, where he entered drawing competitions (around 1770-1771). Although he failed to win these competitions, the judges still liked his art.
Salvador Dali began his painting career at the age of eight. His parents allowed him to continue his artistic interests because of the influence of the Pichot family, a family full of artists who lived at the Mill-Tower, their family home. Ramon Pichot provided Dali with his first contact to Impressionism. During this early period Dali primarily created still lifes, figure drawings, and landscapes of Cadaques. Dali was also influenced by Juan Nunez, a teacher at a night school for drawing which he was allowed to attend. Nunez introduced Dali to watercolors and etchings. Dali was influenced by Impressionism until 1919. From 1920 to 1921 Impressionism gave way to Pointillism and the use of color. During this time ...

The artist of the Surrealist movement strives to take everyday objects or thoughts and turn them into dream-like, unrealistic paintings. Salvador Dali and Vladimir Kush are two great Surrealist painters. Dali and Kush created many different paintings, but they did create similar paintings such as: Dali’s The Ship with Butterfly Sails and Kush’s Fauna in La Mancha. The best of the two surrealist paintings has yet to be named.
The painter that I will be talking about is Edward Munch. He was born on December 12, 1863. He is best known as being a newborn expressionist painter and printer. He was born in Christiana Norway also known as Oslo. He was related to famous painters so it was in his blood. A few years after Edward was born, his mother passed of tuberculosis. He was raised in a single parent household with his dad. His father raised his brothers and sisters in a strict household. This might explain why Edward’s artwork had a strong tone.
Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dali i Domenech, Marquis of Dali de Puebol was born on May 11, 1904 in Spain. His father, Salvador Dali y Cusi, was a middle class lawyer and a notary. His father was very strict with raising his children. On the other hand his mother, Felipa Domenech Ferres allowed Salvador more freedom to express himself however he wanted, we can see this in his art and how eccentric he was throughout his life. Salvador was a bright and intelligent child, and often known to have a temper tantrum, his father punished him with beatings along with some of the school bullies. Salvadors father would not tolerate his son’s outburst or wild ways, and he was punished often. Father and son did not have a good relationship and it seemed there was competition between the two for his mother, Felipa attention. Dali had an older brother who was five years old, who died exactly nine months before he was born. His name was Salvador Dali. There were many different stories about how he was named. It is traditional in the Spanish culture that the oldest male takes the father’s name, this is the simple story. The other story was that his father gave him the same name expecting him to be like his dead five year old big brother. Dali later in life told others that his parents took him to his brothers grave and told him that he was a reincarnation of his older deceased brother. Dali said “we resemble each other like two drops of water, but we had different reflections. He was probably a first version of myself, but conceived too much in the absolute”. Being a child and trying to comprehend that your parents are comparing you to a sibling that has past is difficult but the fact that Salvador had to visit the grave in incomprehensible.
The use of symbols in surrealism and the meaning within these paintings by Max Ernst played a significant influence on the notion of my experimental art making. He was a German painter, sculptor and a graphic artist but also considered as one of the primary pioneers of the Dada and Surrealism movement. They aimed to revolt against everyday reality by exploring the construction of the unconscious mind. By exploring the mind and transforming reality by surveying the desires of the human nature, it allows one to contemplate on the actuality and the realities of our world. Uniquely, Ernst created his own set of techniques such as collage, frottage, grattage, decalcomania and oscillation in order to convey his symbolism of his art making – but it also later incentivized artists such as Jackson Pollock and William De Kooning, revealing his such influence and impact in the art world.
