Young Americans and the Role they Play Ever since the United States decided to have a president, there has always been controversy on how to elect the right leader of our country. We will be looking at the qualifications such as: accomplishments, experiences in education, government, military, political and world views, and character needed in a person to be the best leader possible to represent this country. What qualifications should be used in electing a president? There are many qualifications that should be met in order to be elected the president. He/she must have a good educational background, show evidence of accomplishments, experience in government and military, policy expertise, and he/she must have good character. Accomplishments and experience are two important qualifications to look for in a presidential candidate. He/she must have a good educational background to be able to lead our whole country. Everyday he/she would be facing numerous problems and obstacles. The president must know the smartest thing to do in every situation. They must know the difference between resolutions that last short amounts of time and ones that will continue to help our country far into the future. A presidential candidate must also show evidence of accomplishments throughout their life and most importantly have experience in the government. Experience in military is also a big advantage in a candidate. They'd have knowledge and experience in situations of war if it were to arise. These skills in a president would greatly assist him/her to do a better job running the country. Probably the most controversial quality a president could have would have to be his/her political views on our country, along with the role it plays with the rest of the world. When a candidate speaks about how he/she is going to change the country, the audience can make or break the candidate. Even though there is going to be some people that don't agree with what the president says, the majority of the people agree on certain issues that the president focuses on. The candidate should have knowledge on what the public wants and their opinions on the world, but should also keep their views as close to their own as possible. Along with focusing on our own country's problems he/she must also focus on what is going on around the world and how it will or may affect our own country. The candidate must be able to convince the public that he/she can resolve our country's problems and improve it in any way possible.

A fantastic president would always be trying to come up with new ideas that won't affect people in a bad way. They would need to be great public speakers, honest, powerful, persuasive, and respectful. Most importantly though, they need to be able to lead their country through the specific problems facing them
...omeone who is going to be a leader , someone who is like Abraham Lincoln and is honest and is a strong chararcter. So many things have changed from when abraham Lincoln was president to now. Being president is no easy job there are going to be up's and down's , being a leader of the United States takes a lot of effort and support for everyone in office. When American's vote for a president they pick between two canidates , they want someone who can be trusted and be a leader but sometime's the people running they say they will do this and that but when they get elected it's a whole different ball game. I wish we could have another president who has the characteristics like Abraham Lincoln and can put stuff back to normal and someone who can be trusted and keep there promises. My opinion will always be Abraham Lincoln was the greatest president to ever step in office.
Richard Neustadt identifies three specific traits a person must possess in order to succeed as president of the United States of America. He stated that “the presidency is not a place for amateurs” and candidates must meet specific traits if they are to succeed at commanding one of the world’s largest and strongest nations. The three criteria he believed that a man must possess in order to succeed as president include the power to persuade, a professional reputation, and a public prestige. Herbert Hoover, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan are three presidents who were elected to power at three very different eras of American history. The following research paper will examine how each of these three men succeeded and failed at meeting Neustadt’s criteria of presidential greatness. In addition, this research paper will compare and contrast the successes and failures of the three men and finally, the paper will conclude by offering a personal consideration of what I believe makes a truly great president.
The President of the United States serves as both head of state and head of government (O’Neil, 2007). The basic process of selecting the President of the United States is spelled out in the U.S. constitution. However, there are a couple things one must need in order to be eligible to run for president. The candidate must be at least 35 years of age, a native-born citizen, and must have been a resident of the United States for at least 14 years (O’Neil, 2007).
Personal character is very important for any leader. My candidate, James Peterson, is a man of exceptional integrity. Meeting the constitutional requirements for presidency, he was born in Pennsylvania, is over 35 years old and, while he has travel internationally for work, he has called Pennsylvania home for the last fourteen years. With a military background, his family moved numerous times so Peterson had the opportunity to meet all kinds of interesting people and explore various cultures. Peterson received his master’s degree in international business and political science from Harvard University.
I think that supreme quality for leadership is integrity. It shows how deeply the person is committed to do right things for good purposes and reasons despite all the circumstances which come along. Dwight D. Eisenhower was exactly the person who I can call a great leader. Not only the sense of integrity was present in his vision, but there also were courage, creativity, fairness, trust, humility and understanding. He led the masses and gained the appreciation
ability to move and motivate people and the power to stand up for what he believed in.
Throughout our country’s great history, we have seen a number of great, effective leaders. With that said, it is no easy task to narrow down to a few, the qualities that made and make these men and women so incredibly talented. Great leadership is essential to the well being of any populace, and, undoubtedly, the United States has seen some of the greatest leaders of any country. The qualities that our greatest leaders demonstrate are those such as courage, whether in the face of danger or in the turmoil of the political arena; humility, the essential humbleness that encourages the trust of the people and assures you are a leader of sound judgment and respect; and, of course, passion, the driving force behind innovation, the ambition to
Many Presidents over the years have shown greatness through their leadership. Each has shown this in their individual way. It takes the ability to deal with whatever may come up, as far as politics are concerned, and handle it with care. Also it takes making a difference in society instead of just settling for the United States being ok as it is. The extra step that some take, separates the normal from the great. Lyndon B. Johnson was one of the Presidents who stood out by taking the extra step. LBJ showed presidential greatness through passing groundbreaking legislation and improving society.
Becoming a president isn't as easy as we may think. It takes a lot of time and is a big process and involves many people to decide on If he or she will be right for the job.
Thus a candidate becomes a symbol--being both subject and object in the mind of the electorate. This goes beyond being a mere figurehead: figureheads are allowed peccadilloes since they are not considered to be "real" decision makers. Figureheads express a polity's emotions about an office, and only those. American political figures--especially presidents--express emotions and will, and they express them in terms of a man (Americans seem to feel strongly that the office should be held by a man). The presidency is symbol in that it expresses us: we impeached Clinton because we found his conduct with Monica Lewinsky to be reprehensible. There was not the political will to convict him, however, because we knew that essentially he stood for us, and who among us has not had love affairs of which we are embarrassed?
In my opinion, being a good leader firstly he should be able to take full advantage of favorable circumstance, able to rule the country under a chaotic situation. Besides he made attractive promises to gain popular support, skilled in using of propaganda, amoral. Moreover he should have the organizational ability and has the ambition to make his country powerful in the world. In addition, he could use his words to twist and manipulate the minds of people into believing that what he was saying. Using this power, he could get people to do anything for him, which prove his amorality. He should be skillful in carry out successful policy to bring the country to economic prospect, since economy is very important to a country.
The president elect must be able to deal with problems this country inherited under President Bush. There are still many issues in the United States that President Bush hasn?t given any attention to. The new president must be able to show the judgment to lead in times of crisis. He should be able to talk, negotiate and compromise whenever a conflict arises.
Secondly, with compassion, leader must be far-sighted and able administrator. He must be able to organize his government in a way that it would reach the grass root level. No section of the society should be left out. Policy or scheme initiated for the benefit of public must be implemented in such way that it should not get politicize and corrupt during the process of implementation. Administration should notice and reach the problems being faced by public and tackle it on time without unnecessary delay. And most important of all he must knows well about the interest of country in today's global world and able to create a conductive atmosphere to achieve lasting peace and prosperity in global village.
