Increasing Global Warming Awareness
Several issues concerning the environment are brought to the public's attention every year, but none has more of a direct effect on earth and its environment than global warming. Coincidentally it appears to be the least of the populations concern. Global warming is the theory that our planet is getting hotter due to an increase in the greenhouse effect brought about by the increase of carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is caused by the greenhouse gases and has several consequences that could occur if this problem is left ignored by most of the world and our nations leaders. Such consequences include our planet getting hotter, melting of large glaciers, wildlife

Without this layer we wouldn't be able to exist as an ecosystem and all life would go extinct. "Greenhouse gases, which have built up to unnaturally high levels in the atmosphere, trap heat. They include carbon dioxide, which is emitted when fossil fuels are burned, and other gases produced by human activity"(Watson 2). These gases besides trapping heat, created a hole in our ozone layer which will continue to increase in size if the level of gases remain too high. A hole in the ozone layer means that there is no ozone to protect us within that given size of the hole. Whether the hole is big or small it does have an effect on earth which we call global warming, which in turn can have several effects on the planet. One possible effect that can be attributed to global warming is the melting of large glaciers. This is serious because "The Earth's ice cover acts as a protective mirror, reflecting a large share of the sun's heat back into space and keeping the planet cool"(Mastny 1). The most dramatic reports of this come from the polar regions …show more content…
This is obviously false, if there was not a problem than the topic would never be an issue. Environmentalists are saying that the only way to fix this problem is by reducing the level of greenhouse gases produced without spending too much money. This is very possible with solutions like cleaner or electric cars and better wind and solar power technologies. Natural Resources Defense
Council program director Greg Wetstone points out "Of course, it's also possible that only when people feel less hopeless will they press their leaders to make the solutions available"(2). This shows that if we are going to fight this problem then we have to do it as a nation, with everyone involved including the president, and with the less support from people there will be less of a chance to correct this problem. Due to the increase in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and other gases produced by human activity, global warming is becoming a bigger issue to deal with.
The effec6ts have been clearly seen all over the world and even in our own
In order to reduce to potential climate change, the amount of greenhouse gases being released need to be reduced.
One of the main causes of the increase in Earth’s temperature is greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are gases that are trapped in the atmosphere. The gases consist of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane. They trapped heat from the sun from returning back into the atmosphere. Over the last 100 hundred years we have increased the earth’s average temperature by 1.4 degree fahrenheit (Carey). This is mainly due to the fact we are producing ten times more greenhouse gas than before. It is exp...
Rapid melting of the ice will release dangerous green house gases like methane back into the environment. This will brings rapid climate change. Methane is over 20 times more effective than Co2 in keeping the heat in. Because of severe droughts and floods the agriculture will suffer. Farming will be affected and this will cause food crisis. There are many places that depend solely on the flow of water from melting glaciers to provide them with electricity. If this water is reduced or stops, the production of electricity will stop too.
We can observe these effects every day. In both polar ice caps and mountain glaciers, the ice is melting. Lakes and rivers around the world are warming up rapidly. Animals are migrating and plants are changing their dates of activity.

natural greenhouse effect will intensify and further warm the Earth. Due to man's activities, the
The greenhouse effect results from the heat energy of sunlight being absorbed by the Earth and molecules in the Earth's atmosphere ( Figure 1 ) . This energy is usually radiated back towards space. However, as we change the gases in the Earth's atmosphere as the results of everyday living, this energy is unable to leave the Earth's atmosphere and is trapped as heat. The heat causes a gradual warming of the air around the Earth. This warming is known as the greenhouse effect.
If someone was asked to describe the physical condition of the Arctic and Antarctic regions, how would he or she describe them? Would they think of miles of pure, plain ice as far as the eye can see, or would they picture an ever-growing sea of icebergs and saltwater where the miles of ice once were? Though it may be hard to imagine, slowly melting ice in the Polar Regions have the potential to cause hazardous calamities around the world. As the polar ice caps continue to melt, the potential danger that could result grows by astounding margins. Scientists, however, have devised different ways to combat this growing danger and its source.
The first step is providing education to everyone about global warming, the next step is to give incentives for people to participate in counteracting global warming, and the last step is to insure lasting change by creating and enforcing laws that will help the environment. By looking at this process it is clear that global warming will not be counteracted unless everyone gets involved and it is made a public issue. It is also clear that global warming is natural and will occur no matter what, it is just a matter of slowing it down and not making the process faster that should be focused
Atmospheric scientists first used the term “Greenhouse-Effect” in the early 1800’s. It was used to describe the naturally occurring functions of trace gases in the atmosphere and did not have any negative connotations. In the recent decades, we often hear about the term greenhouse effect in somewhat negative terms. It is important to know that without the greenhouse effect life on earth as we know it would be impossible. In the atmospheric greenhouse effect, the type of surface that sunlight first encounters is the most important factor. Forests, grasslands, oceans’ surface, ice caps, deserts, and cities all absorb, reflect, and radiate radiation differently. Sunlight falling on a white glacier surface strongly reflects back into space, resulting in minimal heating of the surface. Sunlight falling on a dark desert soil is strongly absorbed and contributes to significant heating of the surface and lower atmosphere. Cloud covers also affect greenhouse warming by both reducing the amount of solar radiation reaching the earth’s surface and reducing the amount of radiation energy emitted into space. Although the greenhouse effect is a naturally- occurring process, humans have recently ampl...
There is possibility of decrease in the rate of global warming which will affect us all in a positive way. The endangered animals will be no longer in danger because of the loss in their habitats and also the climate change will be sustainable which mean there will be four seasons in most parts of the
Many climate scientists, researchers, and environmentalists are expressing concerns about shifts in the overall climate of the earth. It is believed that a dramatically dangerous warming is taking place in the overall global climate, a problem that is referred to as "global warming”. Global warming is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of Earth’s climate system. This temperature rise is due to the damaging effects of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. It is our responsibility to preserve our planet and our way of living but in order to do that we need to act now. If we continue to destroy the planet with no regard as to how serious this matter is there could be several negative effects to us as human being and other living thing on Earth. This is why global warming is truly a global issue and needs to be tackled collectively. We must to act now in order to reduce the dangerous levels of carbon dioxide emissions and we must to work together.
are livable. Energy from the sun warms the earth when its heat rays are absorbed by greenhouse
Climate change is triggering major changes in our planet. A simple rise or fall in general temperature can have a large effect on precipitation patterns and the frequency of storms. The rise in the sea level, which has been accounted for and is constantly rising has been the result of melting of ice and glaciers.
Climate changes occur in our earth's atmosphere due to a buildup of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases can occur naturally as well as a result of human activities. The greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. “Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere when solid waste, fossil fuels, and wood are burned.” (2) The gases help to warm the surface of the Earth. Each greenhouse gas absorbs heat differently. If natural gases did not occur, the temperature of the earth would be considerably cooler. “Problems can occur when higher concentrations of greenhouse gases are present in our atmosphere because they have enhanced our earth's heat trapping capability.” (3)
