Looking at All Aspects of a Business
Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association (CCFRA) is the
largest independent membership based organisation. This company
carries out research and development into everything on the market,
which caters for food and drink, which also includes the chain of pet
foods on the market. It was established in 1919 after the First World
War to research the food on the market produced by farming.
In this unit, we will be looking at all the aspect of the business.
What their objectives are and how they meet these objectives. The
control systems and quality assurance used in the company to add value
to its products. Their organisation, structure, culture and
communication channels that operate within the business.
The History behind CCFRA.
In 1919 the government wanted to set up a factory which would be able
to carry out research and development in food. The ideal location for
this factory was the Cotswolds as the ever-increasing farming industry
happening around the area. This factory was set up after the war so
that farming produce could be tested before consumers could by the
product. This was because science had increased and the knowledge of
bacteria and contamination was increasing in the public. So the
government fully funded this organisation.
By 1921 the fruit and vegetable industry in the Cotswolds had
increased and there was an ever-growing need for research into this
area. The University of Bristol also wanted the factory to research
fruit and vegetable so that all the produce was up to satisfactory for
the market. The factory then turned into 'University of Bristol Fruit
and Vegetable Preservation Research Station (Campden Research
Station).
1952 the factory was funded by the government and industry as it later
turned into the 'Fruit and Vegetable Canning and Quick Freezing
Research Association'. This meant that not only did it research Fruit
and Vegetables, it also researched anything you could eat.
In 1966 the factory then changed its name again to 'Fruit and
Vegetable Preservation Research Association'.

Political factors can have huge implications on a business. This can depend on how stable or instable the degree of policy and government is within the country. For example, a change in government can lead to instability as this would cause uncertainties within the government. The current coalition government would be considered stable in its current position. However some of the policies that the current government are trying to push through, e.g. leaving the EU, would cause big instabilities and could have negative effects on businesses including cross street news and glow warm. This is because if we left the EU it would become more difficult for us to trade as many countries wouldn’t want to do business with us. If this was the case both glow warm and cross street news may find it difficult to find a low costing supplier outside the UK. This would cause both businesses to raise prices in order to cover the new costs. An advantage of having a stable government is the support that they can give to a business. This support can come in the form of many different grants and initiatives to suit any stage of business development. One example of a grant that is back by the government would be green grant.
Business Analysis Introduction: - Barilla has encountered many areas of their manufacturing and distribution processes that, for many reasons, could be vastly improved. To try to improve these areas, top logistics management decided to try to implement a JITD (just in time distribution) system, similar to VMI (vendor managed inventory). The management felt that they could cut back on problems such as wild demand swings and stock outs by using this method. Their distributors also felt a great deal of pressure to increase their inventory to prevent these stock outs while also ADDING items that they did not already carry, which would lead to even more inventory. Many employees in the logistics department thought the distributors should carry more inventory to deal with the stock outs but other knew the current inventory was already too much.
Nowadays, the food market is increasing dominated by supermarkets and smaller independent retail outlets are suffering. “The economies of scale” argument and increasing concern about food safety are the reasons for this trend. [16]

According to wikipedia, M&S has over 400 stores in the UK and 192 stores managed internationally (www.wikipedia.org). M&S was established in the late 1800s but the food department was non-existent until 1931. M&S focus on selling mainly food and clothing but they are always growing. The most recent addition to their stores is the technology department. In 2001 M&S started opening Simply Food stores (www.marksandspencer.com)
Since Greencore Group plc operates in the convenience foods industry in both the US and the UK, therefore, this part of the report will analyse and discuss both the markets. We already know that Greencore Group plc is one of the top companies in the convenience foods industry. According to Businesswire (2016), people in both the US and the UK (especially the people who live in cities and towns) rely heavily on such foods because they are very easy to consume, and have a prolonged shelf life. In addition to that, convenience foods are very suitable for the busy lifestyle of town and city dwellers, and the elderly population of both regions. When Sam Walton opened the first Wal-Mart store in 1962, it was the beginning of an American success story that no one could have predicted. A small-town merchant who had operated variety stores in Arkansas and Missouri, Walton was convinced that consumers would flock to a discount store with a wide array of merchandise and friendly service. Hence, Wal-Mart's mission is to deliver big-city discounting to small-town America.
