Six months ago I decided that I needed an animal companion. I did a lot of research about Maltese dogs. I looked through the internet to learn if that was the right dog for me. After I was done with my research about Maltese, I looked through newspaper ads and visited the animal shelter to see if I could find one. I came upon an ad in the newspaper for some six month old Maltese puppies, which a lady was selling.

When I first saw the puppies, I was surprise to see how cute they were. There was one lying alone by him-self in the corner of a box. He has long, with flowing fur that was very straight and silky. He had a pure white coating from head to paws, with some brown specs under his eyes. This puppy was unique with a short curled up tail over his back, like a fishing hook tied on a fishing line. I chose to buy this puppy because it looked different from every other puppy. All of these puppies had floppy ears like a bloodhound dog, but the one I chose had an ear that seems out of the ordinary. His left ear was flipped inside out, like it has been taped on his head. He looked so cute and cuddly.

Happy feeling and emotions toward me is not always the best. I bought him for $400 dollars. When I first brought the puppy home, my family yelled at me for wasting my money. I was happy that I now had an animal companion to play with. He is still young and was still scared of his new surrounding. He cried every night, just like a newborn baby missing his mother. Now months have passed and he is still crying, I tried my best to make my dog feel comfortable and safe around me. I padded him on the butt when he uses the carpet as a restroom, as if he was outside in the backyard. He now fears me when he knows that he did wrong. When I see him, I yell out his name and say, "Time out for you." He will run along and hide behind the sofa.

My dog has grown a lot in the past few months. His behavior is pretty out of control. He will run out the front door if I'm not careful to block it. He will run down the block and make me chase him like it's a game of cat and mouse. He is very naughty about doing that when the front door is open and he can get out. He is very smart in his only little way. He will hide behind the sofa and run towards the door when it is open. Sometimes he knows not to do it when I'm in a bad mood. He is very hyper active when we have company at home or when I'm watching television in the living room. He will run and jump like he is some kind of superhero, on to my lap and try to lick my face. I will play with him for a little while, set him on the floor, and he will run and jump on me again.

I learned a valuable lesson when from having this dog. I learned that a dog is always there for me when I am happy, down, or sick. He will lie next to me and know how I feel everyday after work. I love my dog very much and would hope to grow old with him. I will be there for him when he needs me, just like he will be there when I need him.
