In The Canonization by John Donne, the speaker uses spiritual expressions, such as mysterious (27), hymn (35), canonized (36), reverend (37), and hermitage (38). All of these words share a religious connotation. With using these words when talking about love the speaker implies that love is similar to a love with God, and that love is spiritual.
Mysterious is a religious truth that one cannot fully understand, and only known by revelation. If we apply this definition to love we can interpret it as though love is something unknown, unless you have ever been in love to experience it personally.
A hymn is a song or praise to God. In the poem, the speaker said, "And by these hymns, all shall approve / Us Canoniz'd for love" (35-36). The hymn the speaker is referring to is the "verse" (30), or poem, that the lovers will live in if they are "unfit for tombs" (29). The speaker leads us to believe that love, in comparison to God, is something that should be worshiped. The poem will be used as a hymn to worship love by later generations.
Declaring a deceased person an officially recognized saint is canonization. As mentioned previously, the speaker says, "And by these hymns, all shall approve / Us Canoniz'd for love" (35-36). Later generations will recognize their love for one another and make them saints of a religion of love. Love is something that should be held with high regard, like those of saints.
Reverend means worthy of reverence, or respect. The speaker says that later generations will refer to them as "You whom reverend love / [...]" (37). We can see from this line that the speaker respects and honors love.
Lastly, a hermitage is a private religious retreat. The speaker says that the two lovers "Made one another's hermitage" (38).

Although the word “Saint” is used in reference to one Roman Catholic person who is in his/her mortal life had such exemplar life of holiness then the Church proclaims that she/he is officially declared as a Saint. The official declaration is called “Canonization” and it’s a long process that may take not just years but centuries to make it official. For example, San Juan Diego, his canonization process took more than 450 years because the Church were on the contrary to many anti-Catholics of prejudices and the beliefs were extremely cautious. The Church does not declare that someone is a saint until proven that the person was delivered to the Will of God in their life that the person is willing to become one harmony of the love and Grace of God for the people.

At the start, the first stanza of the poem is full of flattery. This is the appeal to pathos. The speaker is using the mistress's emotions and vanity to gain her attention. By complimenting her on her beauty and the kind of love she deserves, he's getting her attention. In this first stanza, the speaker claims to agree with the mistress - he says he knows waiting for love provides the best relationships. It feels quasi-Rogerian, as the man is giving credit to the woman's claim, he's trying to see her point of view, he's seemingly compliant. He appears to know what she wants and how she should be loved. This is the appeal to ethos. The speaker seems to understand how relationships work, how much time they can take, and the effort that should be put forth. The woman, if only reading stanza one, would think her and the speaker are in total agreement.

To use the name of a Saint generally evokes images of holy men and women of the Catholic church, dressed in flowing robes and surrounded by an oil-painted aura. There are patron saints-those with a sort of specialized divinity-of bakers and bellmakers, orphans and pawnbrokers, soldiers and snake bites, soldiers and writers. Each is a Catholic who lived a life deemed particularly holy and was named, postmortem, by the Pope to sainthood. This construct, I find, is something of an empty set of ideas. The process of canonization is one notorious for its pecuniary nature and tendencies toward corruption. What kind of hope, then, can one possibly be offered by a long-dead person so chosen? Perhaps the kind of sainthood I can accept is much more a secular one. This is, I think, the order of sainthood of author Alice Walker's invention.
In “The Garden of Love”, the conflict between organized religion and individual thought is the constant idea throughout the poem. Blake's colorful use of imagery and heavy symbolism express his resentment toward the church. He makes it obvious how he feels, that it is restrictive in nature and hinders him from expressing his loves, joys, and desires. The poem begins with the narrator lying beside a river, where “love lay sleeping”. Blake laying with love on the riverbank leads us to believe that he knows love in an intimate way. Love is said to be one of the most desired things in life. People long for it, search for it, and crave it. It can come in the form of partners, friends, or just simply family. To some, love is something of a necessity in life, where some would rather turn a cold shoulder to it. Love can be the mixture of passion, need, lust, loyalty, and blood. Love can be extraordinary and breathtaking. Love being held so high can also be dangerous. Love can drive people to numerous mad things with it dangerously so full of craze and passion.
