Vietnam is one of the beautiful countries in Southeast Asia with an anciently culture. Vietnam’s terrain is very diverse according to the natural areas. Also, Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate in the south with only two seasons: rain season from mid May to mid September, and the dry season from mid October to mid April, and monsoon climate in the north with four seasons :spring, summer, autumn and winter. And Vietnam has a lot of famous places to visit.
Vietnam is a country with a curved shape like the letter “S”, is on the Southeast Asia. It adjacent to the Pacific Ocean in the east, bordered with China in the north, Laos and Cambodia in the west, and the Gulf of Thailand in the south-west.
Vietnam has very diverse cultures, rich and imbued by 54 ethnic groups live together in a territory. Besides, Vietnam's culture was much influenced by the Chinese culture and the rice civilization of the people of Southeast Asia. Special point in this culture is the ancestor worship. It is the custom of worshiping of the people who is dead, especially the ancestors. For Vietnamese, it's almost become a religion; every family has an altar for their ancestor. In the Vietnamese people, to ancestral worship is very seriously. When building a house, in a wedding day, having a child, go to a different place to live and to go to an examination ,..., Vietnamese people are burning incense, making offerings to ancestors and to report to ancestors and ask for bless, or to give thanks when the job has been finished successfully. .... Another scenic from the north is the One Pillar Pagoda. Every time you travel to the north, you’ll always want to go to this pagoda. The famous scenic in the Central that tourists at home and abroad visited are Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha Cavern, and Hue - the old capital of Vietnam. In the South, we have Nha Trang – where Miss Universe contest in 2008 has been hosted. Another famous place in the south is Da Lat. It is a very famous place to go in the hot and wet summer, because the weather is very nice. It’s always cool, sunny; sometimes there is a bit of shower, and foggy. It’s like a different world to everyone.
The landscapes of Vietnam are beautiful, Vietnamese people are friendly and hospitable. And Vietnam has a long-time culture tradition; it also has more than four thousand years of history. If you have a chance to go to Asia, don't forget to visit Vietnam.
Vietnam has a very rich and culturally diverse background dating all the way back to 1066 when William the Conqueror invaded and paved the way for English colonization. The French had been colonizing since the 19th century. The French role in Vietnam's history is critical; they started out by bringing these simple peasants to the latest technology of farming and hunting (Yancey 37). The French helped these people out greatly in the beginning, but like all stories of occupation go, they just got worse. They started forcing rules and laws on the people of Vietnam.
The Vietnam War was a war over communism that started in 1950, when Ho Chi Minh, the national leader of Vietnam, introduced a communist government into North Vietnam. In 1954 it was decided to split the country at the 17th parallel, and was ruled under opposing governments, Bao Dai leading the south and Ho Chi Mihn the north. North Vietnam went to war with South Vietnam with the north being supported by Russia and China, as they were also Communist countries, and the south being supported by Britain and the USA.
The piece “The Old Man Isn 't There Anymore” by Kellie Schmitt is a passage showing that nobody really knows any other culture. In the passage Schmitt response to not seeing the old man anymore is to call the cleaning-lady to see what has happened to him and why all the neighbors were sobbing. “The old man isn 't there anymore” she replied, which I guessed it was her baby Chinese way of telling me he died” (Schmitt 107). Ceremonies can be very informational about the family member and their traditions, people should get more information about who the ceremony is for. Throughout Vietnam’s history geography has play a role during it and because of it’s location, climate, soil it was an ideal place for farming which would soon attract invaders. The Chinese, French ,and Japanese all wanted something from Vietnam which included agriculture abundance, colonial possessions, and natural resources. They all controlled Vietnam at this time. Japan surrendered when vietminh declared it’s independence and the United States did not support this independence. Vietnamese American people in Little Saigon manifest their unique identities in many ways such as personal relationships, cultural artifacts and material experiences. Little Saigon shows who they really are and what they have. They are influenced by American and other Asian cultures, and make Little Saigon a blended community, which tries to maintain their own native history and cultures at the same time. I think Little Saigon is like “little America” because the United States has the myth of the melting pot that many different cultures melt together into a harmonious one big culture. The Little Saigon itself has harmonious cultures that reflect Vietnamese American’s various identities and diverse community.
The Vietnam war started in December of 1956, and lasted until April of 1975. The war was between the U.S., and Vietnam. This war was a very gruesome, and tragic war. In Vietnam their leader Ho Chi Minh came back after a 30 year trip to explore around the world. When he returned his country was occupied by two major countries, Japan and France. Ho Chi Minh had a plan to run them out of his country, but he needed the U.S. for it to work. U.S. was still in the Cold war with Russia and there was fear of communism there. So the U.S. decided not to help Vietnam and send military aid to help the French and Japanese forces, in order to stop communism. Thus begun The vietnam war!
Unlike many other European countries that sought out the territory in Southeast Asia merely for increasing their power through trade, the French first began interactions with the region as early as the 17th century. Alexandre De Rhodes began an expedition to the Southeast Asia region with the desire to expand the Jesuit missionaries throughout the region to further their belief. For many years until the 18th century, the Jesuits expanded and created many missionaries throughout the region. The 18th century had brought an astronomical expansion in the trading markets throughout Europe and Asia as all the European superpowers began colonizing all of Southeast Asia to further their trading “empires.” The French would also begin to participate, not at the same level as countries such as the Netherlands or Great Britain, but more in moderation. At that time the French believed to confine their participation in Southeast Asia to religious advancement and moderate trading. It wasn’t until the 19th century until things would begin to take a turn and the French would become a major participant in Vietnam’s history.
The French’s began to colonize Vietnam in 1874. The Vietnamese people gave the French a hard time during the “Pacification Period.” During this time the French tried to gain control of Vietnamese rebel groups and the Chinese, who also wanted to obtain Vietnam. The French divided Vietnam into three different parts. The southern part of Vietnam included two regions called Cochinchina and Annam. The northern part of Vietnam included a region called Tonking. Most of the rebellions took place in Tonking and Annam. The French were in Vietnam because of Economic reasons but, Catholic missionaries also wanted to convert all the people of Asia to Catholicism. Also the French wanted to spread their culture within Vietnam and teach the Vietnamese people about French literature, language, and history. After this period of time France focused on modernizing Vietnam and bringing in rail roads, bridges, and highways. They also forced labor and taxed the Vietnamese people.
Vietnam War lasted from 1959 until 1975 and had grave consequences that influenced greatly not only the history of Vietnam itself but of other countries as well. It was a civil war where the belligerents, South Vietnam and North Vietnam, were supported by such world powers as the USA and the USSR and their allies respectively. Though the main aim of the war was to unify Vietnam as a state, with time the war started to be accepted, especially by Americans, as another battle against the communist regime. That is why, at first, all the deeds of the Government were backed by American public.
Vietnam was a struggle which, in all honesty, the United States should never have been involved in. North Vietnam was battling for ownership of South Vietnam, so that they would be a unified communist nation. To prevent the domino effect and the further spread of communism, the U.S. held on to the Truman Doctrine and stood behind the South Vietnamese leader, Diem.
