Over the past 30 years, video games have become an integral part of our culture, and the video game industry has become a multi-billion economical goldmine. The popularity of video games become mainstream in the 1970’s when games like Pong and the home console system The Atari 2600, reach the public. Because of he demands of the public for new and better gaming systems there are always newer and better games a video consoles coming out. Now because of the popularity of video games the growth of the video game industry has reach 70 billion dollars in 2013. The first computer games were created in the 1950’s but did not have the technology or fancies to be mass-produce. Until the early 1970’s with the increase of technology, there was the first successful home console The Atari. In 1977 with the success of the original Atari, Atari Inc. came out with first big hit for home consoles the Atari 2600. By 1982 The Atari 2600 was a pop-culture hit, with the help of best selling games life Pac-Man, selling over 2 million home consoles world wide. Atari Inc. had a gross over two billion dollar in 1980. 1982 there was the video game crash and by 1983 most retailers thought that the fad of video games had pasted. Most video game company’s like Atari had gone bankrupted by 1984. Most believed that the video game industry was dead until a toy company based in Japan by the name of Nintendo came out with the Nintendo Entertainment System, know as NES, in 1985. The people spoke with their wallets that video gaming was not dead and in 1992 nearly 62 million NES consoles were sold. With the help of games like Super Mario Bros. 3, which sold 11 million copies in the NES life cycles, making it at the time the most popular game of the time. It cost Rockstar Games 266 million dollars to make Grand Theft Auto 5 they made over 1 billion in less then 3 days. There are many games that hit the billion dollar make each year, Call of Duty fancies make over a billion dollar each year. The gaming industry’s growth is linked to it popularly, it is not just a niche for hard-core gamers, its part of our pop-culture. The video-game industry is projected to grow from $67 billion in 2013 to $82 billion in 2017. This is because it is a ever growing part of are culture. According to Nielsen, 56% of U.S. households in 2012 owned at least one current-generation gaming console. Nielsen also states that in 2012 45% of gamers are female. It is not- just a boys club both sexes are fans of video games.
