The research established for findings on electroconvulsive therapy was meant to find its overall properties of effectiveness and usage, also the circumstances under which it was used. First electroconvulsive therapy also known as (ECT) is a therapeutic practice that intentionally passes electrical current through a patient’s brain triggering a brief seizer. The electrical induced seizer would alter the chemical structure of the brain often relieving symptoms of severe mental disorders. However ECT has been deemed as a highly controversial method to treat disorders. Reasons consisting of the fact that it is not all that effective and has only worked in some cases. Also because of its misuse in the 1970’s, when it was administered with no anesthetic resulting in major pain and discomfort in the patients that received the treatment, they also experienced severe memory loss and other side effects.
