“A man only learns in two ways, one by reading, and the other by association with smarter people (Pantana 237),” the words from Will Rogers, one of the world’s best-known celebrities in the 1920s and 1930s, popped up in my mind once I received an invitation to become a member of Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society or also known as Tri-Beta Society. As a new person in research field who thirst for knowledge and experience, this window of opportunity overwhelmed me with queries regarding its benefits and effectiveness to the members of society. Fundamentally, the Tri-Beta society functions as an honor and professional society for students of the biological sciences particularly for undergraduate students who academically outstanding and who indicate special skill and major interest in the fields. Although the Tri-Beta Society is doing very well in providing the occasion for students and faculty to meet and discuss regarding scientific research, but it needs to further develop in offering the students the opportunity to have hands-on research experiences rather than just sitting and listening to other researchers.
Jacqueline Kincart, the president of the Tri-beta Biological Honor Society says, “By conveying a perfect mission to encourage excellence in research and scholarship, this Tri-Beta society is dedicated to improve the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending the boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research” (2014). In order to accomplish its mission, the activities conducted by this society are basically designed to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment, and to promote the dissemination of information and new interpretations among students of the life sciences. The Tri-Beta Society is recognized by its effort in organizing three meetings per semester in order to allow the members to hear the presentations from outstanding professors and graduate investigators that have been selected by the executive board regarding their scientific research. The society's members benefit from this activity because Tri-Beta provides a medium of networking for peers and professors in research to interact and discuss the latest research issues.
One of the Tri-Beta society’s goals which is providing a means of networking to those in the biological sciences, apparently have been successfully accomplished every semester, but the other goal of the society which is providing the members of society the opportunity to publish their research is left far behind. This problem is due to the shortage of opportunity for the members to involve and to have hands-on experience in research.
We’ve all heard the saying “one size fits all,” but when it comes to our education should one size really fit all (Allitt 3612)? Patrick Allitt, a professor of history at Emory University in Atlanta wrote the essay “Should Undergraduates Specialize?” published in 2006 in the Chronicle of Higher Education, he argues that American colleges should give students the chance to choose between a liberal arts education or one that is more specialized to those who want it. Allitt provides an effective argument by building his credibility with personal experiences and feelings, different viewpoints of the argument, and explaining the advantages and disadvantages between the two different
In this argumentative essay written by Dr. Ron Kline a pediatrician who wrote his essay titled “A Scientist: I am the enemy”. The article gives an insight on how animal research has helped many people and shine a light on the benefits of animal research. Ron Kline is the director of bone marrow transplants at the University of Louisville. Furthermore, the essay explains his thoughts and his own reasons for his love of medical research. In addition, the essay include the opposing side of the argument which has a lot feedback from activist groups that think that animal research is horrible.
...out sanitation, infrastructure, and hygiene can greatly reduce global health disparities worldwide. In addition, research is another fundamental necessary in ensuring human health quality for individuals. I admire the researchers who commit in finding answers to fight against chronic diseases occurring worldwide. I have significantly respect the researchers who work together in discovering new diseases and treatments affecting individuals globally and not only fulfilling one country’s needs. It is my desire to become one of those researchers in the next ten years contributing in global health and decreasing global health inequalities in order to provide health care equality for every human being living in the world. We need to work together, globally, and collaborate in order to end health inequalities and the pursuit of human equality in the sake of social justice.
I am exceptionally grateful for this opportunity to possibly be a member of this very prestigious organization. Every day I work tremendously hard to be noticed by both other scholars and my teachers. Now that an opportunity has come, I am truly excited to demonstrate and live by the values of The National Junior Honors Society. I hope to further expose and show both my dedication and want to join arms with my community and my peers and I wish to continue to work with passion and fire to shape the world into a brighter place.
I believe each one of us is gifted with a certain potential, and we are trimmed and molded accordingly by the tribulations of time until we reach our goal. Julia Roberts is an actress, Ronaldo a soccer player, and I am a doctor. What separates me from them is that, they have mastered the art, which in essence fulfills their destiny while I still soldier on with hard work in hand, and ambition right ahead. A wise man once said ‘Success is a journey, not a destination. Have faith in your ability rest will be just fine’. Inspired by my mentor at Shifa Clinical Research Center Islamabad, who I credit for my understanding of the sublime nature and cause of the term ‘research’, I wish to be on board as faculty at the institution in
It is a privilege to write a letter in support of Dr. Samiksha Raut’s nomination for the Faculty Student Success Award. Dr. Raut was my instructor for Introductory Biology I during the Spring 2016 and Introductory Biology II during Fall 2016. During my time as her student, I have gained much respect and admiration for the work she does for her students, and she continues to be a strong positive influence in my life today.
I am honored to be one of the remarkable students qualified to join Eureka High School’s National Honor Society. In school I have always tried and determined to do my best. I work hard for the grades I have achieved. I always show excellent character as I believe this is a very important skill to have and display. I seek and pursue many community service opportunities since giving back to others is key in strengthening our community. I demonstrate the qualities that are necessary to join this prestigious society, including leadership, character, scholarship, and service.
As a new freshman entering this Community College, you will be discovering and experiencing many new things about the world in which you live and yourself. The jump from high school to college can be a very scary but exciting experience. I have some valuable advice for you on how to make this transition smoother and an enjoyable experience rather than a scary and lonely one.
The reason why I’ve selected this group for my study is because when starting college, I was very nervous that some of my professors would not understand why I learned in a different style than the other students in the class. But my expectations had surprised me, all of my professors were able to understand that although I would have taken a quiz in a different classroom, have a note taker or record their lectures. From this, the professors had seen the hard work and dedication. By joining the honor society, I learned how to my own advocate, which brought on new challenges because I was in
13.That when rats ate oleic acid, their level of VLCFSAs went down. The symposiums were intended to allow researchers working on related projects not directly connected with ALD to exchange information with the ALD researchers. Scientists working in isolation are not always aware of other areas where their work could be extremely useful.
What are the advantages to studying an undergraduate degree and how do you think the successful completion of your degree will help you in your life?
To excel in the field of Biology is not merely my dream, but my passion. I have started on this path of never-ending discovery and I want to master this science. It would not be unjustifying to state that the world is a better place today because of the advances in biological sciences. It truly promises to be an ever-advancing profession on this planet where better cures are required for freshly determined diseases on a day-to-day basis. Gene Technology and Biotechnology are a boon to this world. Putting microorganisms to use in the formation of insu...
The various industrial exposers prompted me to obtain higher degree (MS and Ph.D) and to explore the untapped fields in biotechnology which may prove beneficial to the industry and ultimately to human kinds at large. Hopefully, I find your kind consideration to fulfill my desires to grow in the research field that would help me in working on the field of my interest.
College isn’t easy, in fact, it’s scary. It can be somewhat intimidating, and the work may tend to have it’s overwhelming moments. We all go to college for so many different reasons. The main reason why I came to college, is to get a higher level of education. Us as students are so used to constantly being pushed to work towards a higher education such as college, but is it really worth it in the end? Is a college education worth the investment of all your precious time where you could be doing anything besides dreadful homework? Is it worth all your hard earned saved money and endless energy? Is a college degree really worth being stuck in student loan debt that you’ll be paying off for years?
Research philosophy, refers to the development of knowledge adopted by the researchers in their research (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009). In other words, it is the theory that used to direct the researcher for conducting the procedure of research design, research strategy, questionnaire design and sampling (Malhotra, 2009). It is very important to have a clear understanding of the research philosophy so that we could examine the assumptions about the way we view the world, which are contained in the research philosophy we choose, knowing that whether they are appropriate or not (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009). According to Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill (2009), three major ways of thinking about research philosophy are examined: ontology, epistemology and axiology. Each of them carries significant differences which will have an impact on the way we consider the research procedures. Ontology, “is concerned with nature of reality”, while epistemology “concerns what constitutes acceptable knowledge in a field of study and axiology “studies judgements about value” (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009, p110, p112, p116). This study is intent on creating some “facts” from objective evaluations which are made by the subjects. Therefore, epistemology will be chosen for this study as the way of thinking about the research philosophy.
