Although Al Gore has proven to be both a capable politician and philanthropist, he has no credibility in regards to the scientific field he seems so concerned to inform the public about. Interestingly enough, some of the mistakes our esteemed presenter made were crucial details that weaken the anthropogenic global warming argument. In the film, Gore mistakenly asserts “that in each of the last four interglacial warm periods, changes in carbon dioxide concentration caused changes in temperature” (35 Inconvenient Truths: The Errors in Al Gore's Movie) . In reality it’s the opposite, because temperature is the factor that affects carbon dioxide levels. “Carbon dioxide,” Gore asserted, “is pollution.” That statement not only proves to be misleading, but also ignorant. Carbon dioxide is a food source for plants and a source of natural nutrition. Plants take in this carbon dioxide and in turn release oxygen, a component that all living species, including humans, breathe. In fact, “well-managed forests, such as those of the United States, are growing at record rates [due to] the extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere [, which] is feeding the trees” (35 Inconvenient Truths: The Errors in Al Gore's Movie). If one were to look at the concentration of carbon dioxide throughout the span of Geological Time, one would notice that carbon dioxide levels were significantly higher than present levels. Notably, the University of California estimates carbon dioxide levels to be approximately twenty times greater in concentration than present levels. An Inconvenient Truth is a documentary film in which basis are put long-term researches of changes of climate, level of carbonic gas in the atmosphere, and conditions of polar ices. In this film, El Gore, a presidential candidate of 2000 and former vice president of the United States, explains the scientific and political view of global warming and its serious consequences that we already observe on Earth, and other more tragic consequences that are still to come in the near future if we do not reduce emissions of exhaust gas in the atmosphere. Nothing especially new about the global warning is presented in the film, but what made this film effective is, firs of all, the fact that El Gore, a public and well known figure in the United States, is the main protagonist of the film. Another effective point in the film is that El Gore put all the scientific work together and showed that the problem is real, it is not a myth, and it should not be ignored any longer.

Climate change is not a theory contrary to what many individuals believe and is in fact confirmed by major scientific agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States. Global Warming causes are mainly due to greenhouse gases that are trapped in the atmosphere and cause depletion of the earth’s ozone layer. Carbon Dioxide is a greenhouse gas, and although it is a necessary component in our atmosphere as it helps plants perform photosynthesis, too much of it causes ozone depletion and therefore climate change. Carbon Dioxide levels in the atmosphere have increased tremendously after the industrial revolution, which indicates that the major cause of this issue is due to anthropogenic activities.
I have always admired Al Gore, and after watching this film, I am disappointed even more now, that he never became a president. He is indeed very smart and very talented person, who truly desires to change things not only in the United States but around the world. Especially, after watching his film about global warming, he made me feel like he does really care about the world and people. He said: “what we take for granted might not be here for our children,” to me, perhaps, this is the most moral idea that came across the entire film. Not only his words, but his actions prove his true diligence about our present and future, and also about future generations. Gore’s book, an inconvenient truth (herein “Inconvenient Truth”), is primarily referenced for the proposition that the totality of human activity (or more broadly, life’s activities) here on Earth, if left unchecked, has and will result in more and greater weather dislocations and disturbances arising from a general warming of the biosphere, and, that the trend to date displays an acceleration forming a rising an asymptotic curve (the first half of a sigmoidal curve).
Earth’s carbon levels have followed a natural cycle throughout the past 800,000 years where the carbon dioxide concentration varied from 180 ppm (parts per million) and 280 ppm which resulted in several changes in the environment.. In the grand scheme of Earth, these changes are miniscule and have stayed within the natural cycle. But when looking through the eyes of humans, these changes are drastic causing ice ages, draughts, and rain for years (Goldstein 6). During the last century carbon dioxides levels in the atmosphere have become significantly larger than they ever have in the past 800,000 years. Today these levels are at 390 ppm and show no signs of stopping which will cause temperatures to rise because carbon is a greenhouse gas. When a greenhouse gas, such as carbon dioxide or water vapor are present in the atmosphere, they absorb the heat that the Earth is giving off, creating a thermal blanket over Earth trapping in heat (Houghton 20).

In the documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, former presidential nominee Al Gore illuminates the detrimental effects of global warming. Throughout the documentary, Gore discusses the scientific opinion on global warming, which at the time was considered to be a taboo, and argues that, though an “inconvenient truth,” global warming is an actual, catastrophic issue. He states that global warming “is not really a political issue, so much as a moral one.” In addition, Gore contends that global warming is human-caused and specifically emphasizes America’s harmful contributions to its catastrophic dangers. As a result, Gore challenges his viewers to take action in joining the efforts to reduce the long term effects of global warming.
In 2006, former senator Al Gore created an academy award winning documentary on global warming entitled “An Inconvenient Truth” . The movie earned several awards including an academy award for best documentary and gore later received a noble peace prize. The movie discussed several different topics of great concern to global warming; such as permafrost, climbs in temperature, extinction of species, drought, and fatigue to name a few. Four writers in five different articles discussed the three topics of greenhouse gases, climate change, and causes of global warming. These writers are writer and scholar Bill McKibben in “Think Again: Climate Change” and “How Close to catastrophe”; William J. Broad, writer for the New York Times in “From a Rapt audience, a call to cool the hype”; writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kevin O’Brien, in “Global Warming? I won’t be losing any sleep over it”; and Alan Zarembo, staff writer for the the Los Angeles Times, in “Game over on global warming?” All though the articles explain some different topics from one another, only one of them disagree with gore on the causes for global warming being humans, they all agree that there will be impacts to the environment, and all of them believe that greenhouse gases are one of the primary causes for global warming.

One of the first alarmists for the theory of anthropogenic global warming was roger Reveille. He was the first scientist to study, and receive funding for the primus of manmade global warming. During the 1960s Mr. Reveille taught at Harvard University where he established the center for population studies. During this same time period Albert Gore junior takes Mr. Reveilles class where he Tabulated data for a carbon dioxide survey. Al Gore would later state that this was the foundation for all of his work. Mr. Gore would then go on to win the noble peace prize in 2007 for his work on a documentary called the inconvenient truth. Al Gore also notices that the ten hottest years on record have occurred in the last 14 years. He gives many examples such as the massive heat wave in Europe, the dramatic high temperature in India and a lot of cities in America. The temperature increases are occupied in the whole world, not only the land but also the oceans. When the oceans get warmer, that causes stronger storms. In the last couple years, there are a lot of big hurricanes. These catastrophic disasters did a lot of damages. They lead to more flooding, heavy rain. However, they also lead to more drought. The spring comes earlier and the fall comes later, the temperature keeps on going up. Many explorers found that the ice is less thick than before. Mr. Al Gore uses a lot of scientific and geographic knowledge to explain the cause and the consequence about the global warming. Ecological environment has been influenced and many rare animals are endangered. Many mosquitos change their habitats and expand their range owning to the change of temperature. Also, it causes a lot of vectors for infectious diseases. It is often said that human should save water and water is a necessary. However, most people never notice that many droughts were caused by global warming. The explanation in the movie is very convince and persuasive. When I was a senior high school student, our geography teacher told us global warming not only makes the temperature high, but also makes many potential dangers. As I was a child, there is a catastrophic disease named SARS, my mother told me that the disease was very serious and led a lot of people to die. If we have to go out, we should be well-armed.
