Media is defined in one of the websites as ‟Communication channels through which news, entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated. Media includes every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, and internet.’’(www.businessdictionary.com, 2013). The media around the world has a great impact on people way of believing, learning, communicating, and interacting with others. The media become indeed the most popular tool in representing what is happening in the world through the whole planet and in influencing people. Additionally, media nowadays is used to create cultural, economical, political, social, and intellectual values. Nevertheless, each country is using the media differently depending on the economical, political and cultural differences. Yet, there is no doubt that the media in the whole world share the same fact which is the truth that it is constrained by several external and structural forces that may shape the media’s image. Moreover, do the media represent the actual reality? Well, the media don’t represent the exact reality because of the external and structural forces which the media is constrained by. This paper is aiming to shed the light on the external and structural forces which the media is constrained by in the world in general, and Oman in specific. These external forces are State, economy and media ethics in conflicts.

Nonetheless, not every country provides the media with enough budget, hence in countries like Pakistan, Bahrain, and Oman the media is less sufficient and developed. Finally, media ethics in conflicts is considered as one of the external forces which the media is influenced and affected by. The number of conflicts existing in the world is increasing rapidly and no one can doubt about the fact that the media has been a part of making those conflicts more and more intense and aggressive. Some countries furthermore have used media to sell and manipulate the victims to attain profits, disrespecting the honest representing which media should be committed to. This term paper has tried to highlight the main external and structural forces that the media is constrained by in the world in general and Oman in specific.
