“Transformational leadership is a newer leadership approach which creates valuable and positive change in their followers. Transformational leadership enhances motivation, morale, and performance as well as stimulates and inspires followers to achieve extraordinary outcomes and in the process develop their own leadership capacity. Transformational leaders also focus on “transforming” others to help each other, to look out for each other, to be encouraging and harmonious, and to look out for the organization as a whole.” (Bass, 2006)

This training is being conducted in response to globalization and the effect it is having on unions. With a global economy upon us as well as educationally advanced corporate managers and leaders controlling corporations destiny; the time has come for union leadership and members to move into the future by “transforming,” so they can to control their destiny. This new transformation must develop highly motivated innovative leaders with critical thinking skills.

However, in order for this transformation to work union leadership must relinquish their “Laissez-faire status quo” practices. These union leaders must then take the initiative to develop and work towards becoming innovative educationally advanced leaders, thus equalizing the playing field with that of the opposing corporate world. The way to do this is through a transformational leadership approach. To begin this transformation process,

“Will union members interested in leadership learn the full-range leadership qualities Transformational Leaders possess by taking a “Transformational Leadership” course or do they already know?”

Once leaders have entered into their respective roles with the transformational training in hand, case studies would probably need to be implemented in the near future in order to determine if training curriculum needs to be adjusted.
