Coach Carter Kevin L Nimmo National University Introduction The story of a brave coach, is what I would describe the movie “Coach Carter. I admire him as a person because he cares about the academic success of his students. When I first saw the film I was drawn to it because I could relate to it. All of the kids that went to that school were considered urban or inner city and that’s how I grew up. Its important to be pleasant and respectful when you are around the team members, it doesn’t mean that you have to hang out or socialize with one another but having common mutual respect is important for team cohesiveness. Dependability is one of the most important traits that make an effective team member. If an assignment needs to be completed and your team is depending on you pick up the slack and do your part. Another example that I have to share is regarding conflict within the team it disrupts morale and creates problems. One day in our warehouse on base two of my junior personnel weren’t getting along with one another in front of the team so I intervened by pulling them both aside and counseled them both letting them know that their actions are unacceptable and not helping the team. Having respect for your colleagues is important for a team to be successful. Communication is crucial to being an effective team member because you must be supportive and know how to share your thoughts and ideas.
