Today you see films everywhere you go, but do you ever think about films in other countries around you? Well, India’s Bollywood Film Industry is the biggest in the whole wide world. The Indian Cinema was started in a very unique way; there are also a lot of amazing superstars in this industry. Films have changed a lot over time since 1896.
Bollywood originated from the Lumiere Brothers when they filmed six short films in a hotel in Mumbai, India. The first motion picture screened in India was at Heston Hotel on July 7, 1858 through a cinematograph of the Lumiere Brothers. Their eye catching films caught Dadashaheb Phalke’s attention and he started the Indian Cinema. Dadashaheb is also known as the father of Indian Cinema (H2g2). He was born on April 30, 1870 in Trimbakeshwar, India. Dadashaheb studied arts since the age of fifteen. Phalke started working with the Lumiere Brother’s worker, Carl Heinz to start off the process of the Industry. He became very interested in the industry and notified Harishchandra Bhatvadkar in 1899 and started off the development. Both of them made two films in 1899 and showed them by Kinetoscope. On May 13, 1913, the father of Indian Cinema released the first silent film. Since that day Bollywood Film Industry was finally born. Phalke got his idea from the movie The life of Christ and sailed to England to meet Carl Heinz (The history of Indian Cinema from 1896 to the present day). By 1920, twenty-seven films were made each year. In today’s Bollywood industry over 1,000 films are made each year. H.S Bhatvadkar started to film with Hiralal Sen in Calcutta and Bombay (The History of Indian Cinema). Dadashaheb became very overwhelmed and went into dept. with the cinemas by 1920. ...ith the convening of a Motion Picture congress in 1939. Director, Mehboob Khan’s Aurat was released in 1940 and later was called Mother India. The Bollywood Industry was soon stamped and confirmed by the 20th century, Fox, Sony Pictures, and Warner Brothers. Today in the Bollywood Film Industry improvements have been made. Also, Bollywood now has International Film Festival of India which is also known as the IFFA awards. This years 2014 IFFA Awards are held in Tampa Bay, Florida on April 25, 2014. Bollywoood also has the Oscar Awards (Brief History of Bollywood Cinema).
The Indian Cinema was started in a very unique way and films have changed a lot over time since 1896. There are also a lot of amazing superstars who have brought this industry to success. Now that the industry has made a lot of changes and improvements, it would be a blast watching a Bollywood film!
