Too Many Gun-related Deaths Leader to Better Gun Control

The United States is country that has the largest gun related deaths in the world. A lot of cases happened because the background check system is not strict enough to prevent criminals from purchasing firearms. “Many supporters think that the United States Government should consider having tighter background checks on firearms” (Opposing viewpoints….). This involves the court decisions, gun control laws, and incidents spark calls for reform. Many troubles were caused by bear arms. This is the reason why the United States Supreme Court restricted the right to carry out firearms. “The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a federal law to prohibit the interstate transportation of firearms. The United States banned newly manufactured assault rifles in 1994, and the ban was expired in 2004” (Guns and crimes). After Congress ended the prohibition of assault weapons in 2004, the amount of children and teens that were killed by firearms increased. In 2008, the gun control laws were reversed by the Supreme Court. The case was called District of Columbia V. Heller; “it was a case for the court to decide if the Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms. But the case left many bear arms questions unanswered” (Guns and crimes). There are several intentions for gun control laws. They are designed to prevent criminals from gaining access to firearms. But a lot of supporters said that gun control laws will not stop criminals and insane people from getting firearms because of lack of stricter background checks. “In 1968, after Martin Luther King Jr and Senator Robert F. Kennedy got assassinated, Congress passed the gun Control Act from owning firearms is prohibited since 1968” (Opposing viewpoints…).
