In the 1960’s, To Kill a Mockingbird conquered the bookshelves across the United States with an inspiring message of racial inequality. Yet, after fifty years, people argue that To Kill a Mockingbird is not a classic book, the same book that conquered the book stores and made people open their eyes on racial inequality. The definition of a classic novels is a work of literature that possesses virtues such as being , famous, a timeless message, inspiring the readers, and being considered the best of its kind. To Kill a Mockingbird in my opinion is a classic, because it is one of the most popular books in the last 60 years, it has a relevant theme, and it inspires people and writers.
The book should be considered classic because it’s so famous and liked by the masses, and where will the book be if it wasn’t so popular? It would be nowhere, because no one would have ever heard of it. The book is requirement for schools around the United States (around 75% of students read it). It is estimated that 30 million copies were sold around the world (Barra). Probably every adult has heard of or read To Kill a Mockingbird. The only reason why it became so popular is because people enjoy it, and that it is a good book. My whole English class even agrees that it was a good book.
. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”(Lee 91). This was one of the most important quotes in the book because it explains how people should not punish others when they did nothing, especially in the 1930’s a time when people punished other for being different, for that is when the story takes place Although racism is of a lesser degree now, it will never be comp...

...g to that event, but look at Romeo and Juliet it is considered a classic, and it tells the reader what is going to happen in the beginning, it is not about her telling the events is how they are played out and their importance to the characters.
In the end, it does not matter if To Kill a Mockingbird told what was going to happen, when it came out, or if it got a movie. All that matters is if it left an impression on the reader and they took something out of it. This is why schools love To Kill a Mockingbird, because it teaches good morals, it is a great book that is well known and praised; it also shows how the world was from a child’s perspective that allows students to relate to. A classic can cannot be defined by words, everyone will have their own views on classic book, but everyone can agree that To Kill a Mockingbird is a great book and preaches good moral.
Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird was published in the year of 1960, and is one of the few American classic novels awarded the Pulitzer Prize. The racism that is prevalent in many southern American towns in the 1930s is brought to life with profound imagery in To Kill a Mockingbird. There are several characters in the book, yet the true main character is the narrator's father, Atticus Finch. He is a man of great integrity and intelligence. A very heroic figure in more ways than one, Atticus possesses traits like being principled, determined, and, more importantly, he teaches others. When looking at To Kill a Mockingbird, one can see that Lee uses lots of description, dialogue, and actions to portray Atticus as a heroic individual.
To Kill a Mockingbird is a phenomenal book that portrays life in the South during the 1930’s. This poverty stricken time, in which many struggled to get through, seemed to never grow dull by the means of the Finch family. Harper Lee’s award winning book was captured in a film containing the same title. Although the movie was in black and white and average in length, it lived up to the vivid story depicted within many pages. This worldwide hit reached many minds, but it is up to the people to decide which one is better: the book or the movie.
Why should To Kill a Mockingbird be published? One good reason is because To Kill a Mockingbird is a great read about the human dignity that connects people of all sorts. It helps students realize that life was not exactly fair in the 1930s. The lack of humane behavior is shocking and will arouse some students, plus increase their knowledge of history in the 1930s by way of telling the story through a child’s perspective.
Famous author Stephen King said in his book On Writing: a Memoir of the Craft that “ Every book you pick up has its life lessons, and quite often the bad books have more to teach than the good ones” (King 145), but unfortunately not everyone agrees. In today's world, people are becoming more and more easily offended by simple things like the subjects in classic literature, for example To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and are even trying to ban it in a classroom setting. However, To Kill a Mockingbird should continue to be taught in schools because it positively affects society by changing the way people think about the world, through a very historically accurate setting, and by teaching its readers valuable lessons.
To kill a mockingbird is a very memorable book people who read the book years ago still remember it today. Some people think the book shouldn't be taught in school, however, the evidence shows the book should be taught in schools. Howbeit harper lee’s to kill a mockingbird should be taught in schools because it teaches racism from a kids perspective and how kids deal with the world's problems.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a beloved novel published in 1960. After reading the novel there were some moments and people that I found particularly enjoyable. My favorite part of the novel was when the children went to Boo Radley's house to try to get a look at him. In addition, Atticus Finch was my favorite character in the novel. In my opinion the book was very good. I felt that it really showed the thoughts and actions, both good and bad, of the people in the South during the time of the Great Depression. At some points it was sad and at others it was comical but overall it conveyed the message that it was trying to send and everyone could learn something from it.
There’s always been the argument of “Which is better?” when it comes to book versus movie. In the case of To Kill A Mockingbird, in my opinion, the movie lacks certain details needed to really see some of the themes Harper Lee is trying to get across. The movie leaves out some important characters. It also leaves out many certain events that are significant to the character development of Scout and Jem. These things, I believe are crucial to the story and message of To Kill A
The author behind the influential and famous novel To Kill A Mockingbird is a woman by the name of Harper Lee. This ingenious woman made magic with only her inventive mind, creative imagination, past experiences and passion for kindness and equality. She was born and raised in a time of prejudice and racism but she always found a way to keep her goodness intact. She never let herself get corrupted or influenced by frivolous and uneducated people. Harper Lee’s influences as a child and views of society as an adult inspired her to fight against the world’s prejudice outlook on life by writing To Kill A Mockingbird, a novel that argues against society’s biased views toward racism.
To Kill a Mockingbird is considered a classic novel around the world. To Kill a Mockingbird was released in 1960. The movie was released in 1962 pulling in over $15 million. The movie followed the same plot line as the book, but had many differences that may have changed the outcome.
Harper Lee’s only book, To Kill a Mockingbird, is the stereotypical tale of childhood and innocence, yet it successfully incorporates mature themes, like the racism in the South at the time, to create a masterpiece of a work that has enraptured people’s minds and hearts for generations. According to esteemed novelist Wally Lamb, “It was the first time in my life that a book had sort of captured me. That was exciting; I didn’t realize that literature could do that” (111). Scout’s witty narration and brash actions make her the kind of heroine you can’t help but root for, and the events that take place in Maycomb County are small-scale versions of the dilemmas that face our world today. Mockingbird is a fantastically written novel that belongs on the shelves for classic literature that everyone should take the time to read and appreciate for their execution of style and the importance of their content.
In the classic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, an ongoing theme throughout the book is it is a sin to kill a mockingbird. This theme comes from Atticus instructing Jem not to shoot mockingbirds with his air rifle, because it is a sin to kill a mockingbird. Miss Maudie tells Scout that Atticus is correct; mockingbirds don’t do anything to disturb people, all they do is sing beautifully for everyone to hear. Author Harper Lee shows this theme using characterization.
To Kill a Mockingbird is regarded as a classic also due to the timeless moral values it holds dear. The words of others should not dictate personal values, using educated thought is crucial before acting and finally, statements should not always be acknowledged as truth until you are able to authenticate them for yourself.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has been challenged/banned countless times since it’s original publication in 1960. The reasoning people could have behind banning it is that they feel that the racism, language and subject matter in the book is offensive, inappropriate, immoral and that it encourages and condones such things. To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in Maycomb, a small town in Alabama, during the depression from 1935-1937, and is told from the perspective of a little girl named Scout. In the book Scout’s father Atticus teaches her and her brother Jem many valuable lessons. The things Atticus teaches Scout and Jem are things we all need to know. To Kill a Mockingbird is an inspirational book that teaches valuable moral values, and should not be banned.
To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel about all different kinds of stereotypes. It takes place during the 30’s in the depression. It uses a young girl’s perspective to show how these stereotypes were so abundant, and how terrible they were. The novel has many themes about racism and sexism, which the author portrays in creative ways. I believe that To Kill a Mockingbird is very much still relevant today.
To Kill a Mockingbird is not all about racism and mature themes. It is a story about the innocence of the world, pictured by a child’s eye. It is a modern-day tale of how prejudice must be met, fought and overcome. To Kill a Mockingbird is simply a masterpiece because it deals with the innocence of a young child and how that purity is sullied by the real world. Her innocence is gradually being chipped away although she tries to hang on (Tulsa World, 2016). As P&C members, teachers and parents, I want you to empathize on the needs of students. Therefore, it is my opinion that To Kill a Mockingbird is an appropriate resource to use in year 12
