Several studies and research papers have been made in order to find out the feasibility and applicability of Geographical Information Systems in the modern world. GIS and Crime Mapping by author Spencer Chainey and Jerry Ratcliffe is one such source. Crime Mapping is a major aspect of Geographical Information Systems that can be used in major cities with crime problems such as Karachi. The study goes over the operation, investigative and strategic applications of Crime Mapping and how it must be used in order to have a maximum impact of reducing crime. Graphs and Maps can be generated with the data provided by Police Departments in order to turn raw data into information that can be interpreted to yield results. Another study into the application of Geographical Information Systems is the Systematic GIS Development and its Successful Implementation in SSGC-Pakistan by authors Syed Ali Naqvi and Zuhair Siddiqui. The paper argues that utilities such as natural gas have prime importance in the worldwide development of urban and commercial centers. The gas pipeline in Pakistan that was developed in the 1950s-1960s with expansion occurring in the 1980s-1990s is a prime example of this. Most of the data relating to the maps and scales were stored manually and therefore, access and analysis of the data was a tedious process. In order to meet the rapid expansion and maintenance of the gas pipeline, a Geographical Information System was needed. This was done by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the success and benefits that it provided are an organized web based application that can provide users with in-depth analysis on relevant data. The achievement of this undertaking provoked NIJ to begin the Drug Market Analysis Program (D-MAP) in five urban areas. Subsequently the systems these exertions created prompted the development of wrongdoing mapping all around the United States and in different nations.
