In one point of our adolescent lives, we have those days where we become tired, fatigued, and bored because we have nothing to do. It is a friday evening, I am lying on my messy bed thinking of things that can keep me entertained. I look around the room and I spot my two guitars hanging from the wall, a couple in the corner mounted on top of each other, and one in a hardshell case lying on the floor but I am not interested. I opened my laptop and go on youtube but there is nothing to watch. I try reading my thick business law book however, its friday night I do not want to do homework! With desperation, I send some text messages out to my friends hoping to go out tonight. Fortunately, all my friends are available and we quickly make plans to go to Old town Pasadena on Colorado Blvd. Once we are there, I ponder about how lucky we are to have places like these where we can come and relax after a long week and spend time with family and friends.
Old town Pasadena is not only for the locals but invites every nearing city around Pasadena. Besides serving as a place where locals can go shopping, window shopping, or dining, it is also famous for holding the Tournament of Roses Parade at the end of every year. The Glendale galleria or the Americana nor The Grove, has an extravagant event at the end of the year such as the Tournament of Roses.Other people have traveled far from other cities not local and sleep on the streets the night before the parade with their sleeping bags and tents to keep warm. I have the fondest memory of waking up 7 am getting ready to go the parade with my family. By 9 am we would find our spots to view the parade. ... colorful, bold morals on the walls, it never seems to stop me from capturing the moment and taking a mental picture of the my surroundings to store in for all time. Old town adds a diverse community and new flavors all the time such as seeing lamborghini parked on street, that excited me everytime or watching a group of drivers showcasing their refurbished volkswagens up and down the street. Watching street performers do what they do best. Meeting new friends or running into old ones. Making new memories with your family and friends. Trying new things for better or worse. It can be as simple as just taking a stroll up and down the street. This is what gathers people and thats what always has me going back.

Most people who grow up in Cincinnati cant wait to get out, but once they leave they can’t wait to come back because there is no other place like it. It has the small town “homey” feeling everybody grows to love, along with big city options that are easily accessible. Nobody ever wants to come to Cincinnati, but once they do, they realize how special it is, regardless of the territory. Its unique structure comes as surprise, yet, joyous experience and that’s what makes it special. East or West, North or South Who-Dey baby!
Each person has a place that calls to them, a house, plot of land, town, a place that one can call home. It fundamentally changes a person, becoming a part of who they are. The old summer cabins, the bedroom that was always comfortable, the library that always had a good book ready. The places that inspire a sense of nostalgic happiness, a place where nothing can go wrong.
In the summer of 1969, a music festival called, “Woodstock”, took place for three straight days in Upstate, New York, with thirty-two musical acts playing, and 500,000 people from around the world coming to join this musical, peaceful movement. Woodstock started out being a small concert, created to locally promote peace in the world, by the power of music and its lyrics. Now, Woodstock is still being celebrated over 40 years later. The chaotic political climate that the ‘baby boomers’ were growing up in is most likely the reason for this event becoming of such an importance to the world. The violence of the Vietnam War, protests at Kent State and the Democratic Convention, and the assassinations contributed to an ‘out of control’ world. The fact that so many people came to Woodstock and were able to latch onto the ideals of peace, love, and community became a wonderful, joyous symbol to this generation. This three day music festival represented the ideal for baby boomers during a chaotic political time.
A new phenomenon happening in our city is the rebirth of many of our older and rundown areas. One of the best examples of this is the "Soulard" area of town, which now has an established nightlife as well as exquisite historical antique homes. Lafayette Square has also enjoyed the same type of success as Soulard. It is still in the middle of a high crime area, but is populated by upper-class people with beautiful homes with elaborate wrought iron fences and intricate security systems. This trend of fixing up old flats is spreading out from the areas of Soulard and Lafayette Square to neighboring communities at a rapid pace. The Compton Heights area is coming back with rebuilt old Victorian styled houses and private gated streets that contrast the French styled flats of Soulard. The Shaw and Tower Grove area are also following the lead of revitalization similar to these charming old neighborhoods.

As the moving in of new residents filled the community with new cultures, many old life styles are slowly disappearing. This quote in document E says: “Those tired old landmarks are being replaced with market housing, trendy eateries and a whole new population that’s heard about, but has likely never seen what the Downtown Eastside was all about.” The main point in this quote is while the new things are coming into the DTES, they did not care nor preserve the old life-stye of that place. Mile, this summer Chicago was embellished by a new landmark, or landmarks to be more exact. Nearly 300 cows have found a temporary home in the streets of downtown and its buildings. This extensive public art project, organized by the Chicago Public Art Program , commemorates the city’s industrial history, while bringing a sense of community and beauty to Chicago’s citizens and tourists. In this “parade”, every cow is full of meaning as well as artistic value. Although many might argue, I, to the contrary, would like to applaud the City of Chicago for the implementation of this great project.
At the start of the afternoon, everybody just wished they were at the beach. By the end, all we could think about was how much fun we had playing board games. After Mom won for the hundredth time, we decided it was time for dinner. The smell of hotdogs and hamburgers floated throughout the house. Laughing, talking, more laughing, and even more talking echoed around us.
That dynamic of being a “little-big” town, has allowed me to know how the hustle and bustle of big city life works, and how to adapt to the pace of it all. The small town aspect has encouraged me to branch out and to meet new people, and the connections I have made has allowed me to experience a diverse range of people. Which has and will help to interact with people for the rest of my life. Words cannot fully describe how I feel about Salem, but what I do know is that the friendliness of the town and its productivity has shaped me into being a unique individual. Every country has their own culture, and like other cultures, Spain too has its own specific culture. Part of the Spanish culture revolves around the bull. Bullfighting and bull runs by many people are recognized as the only Spanish culture in the world, and because of its importance it always begins on time. Still many people view it as a crime. Me being a foreigner I have first hand experience with different cultures. A long time ago in India’s ritual would be to hunt and kill the Indian tiger. Over time the Indian tiger became endangered and now they have become illegal to hunt. When I saw my great great grandfathers hunting pictures he had two tiger heads. Both rituals of bullfighting and hunting tigers are an inseparable culture for both countries. Thus, the Spanish culture revolves around the bull and will continue revolving around the bull forever.
On the other hand the neighborhood I live in now isn’t much of a neighborhood at all, it’s just a street that has multiple apartment buildings. I feel more as though my apartment complex is an entire neighborhood in itself than my street or my town actually is. There’s also upsides to a living so close to your neighbors such as you’re able to ask them for anything you might need and you’re able to get to know them on a more personal level.
