In the southwestern region lies Aquitaine, France that covers about 15,949 square miles (Dordogne). In all of those miles, you can experiences varying geography from beaches to vineyards, Aquitaine has it all. This section of France has gone through many leaders, changing but always coming back stronger than ever. No matter where you travel to in the region, you will always experience the same weather. The people in this area have very active hobbies that are much different than the hobbies that we have here in North America. Most Aquitaine is covered in vineyards and small villages but the capital city is what attracts tourists. Aquitaine, France has a vast variety of geography, a deep history, a generally consistent climate, an odd leisure life, and a mixture in city mood.
The region of Aquitaine. France is bounded by many landforms and consists of vineyards or châteaux, beaches, and The Landes. Bounding Aquitaine, you can find Limousin to the northeast, the Atlantic ocean to the west, Midi-Pyréneées to the east, and Spain to the south (Dordogne, Bordeaux & the Southwest Coast). An hour drive south of Bordeaux, the sixth largest city in France, is home to several wine-producing properties, or châteaux. Château Haut-Brion, the most famous château in France, is the first vineyard that you will travel upon (Morley 238). This château is a mansion dating back to around 1533 when Jean de Pontac brought the château to the world (Château Haut-Brion). Where there are not vineyards, there are beaches. The region has a 140 mile coastline stretching from the estuary to Arcachon. At Arcachon, swimming is limited to a seasonal recreational activity due to the high surfs. If you tour the entire region of Aquitaine, you will find an assortment of geography, history, a uniform climate, a different leisure life, and an internationally recognized city. Here, you can find lowlands, vineyards, beaches, and forests. Through out the years,Aquitaine has seen many rulers and has been under many forms of control. No matter where you go in the region, the climate will always be a mix of Atlantic and Mediterranean. The people come to this area of France to enjoy the calm life that is offered. Bordeaux is one of the main attractions that is located in Aquitaine, France.
The area is neither scenic nor remarkable in any way. No stoic landmasses rise up from the ocean depths to form islands. Essentially, to the naked eye, there is nothing that may be seen. Actually, it's rather boring.

Social studies are usually a subject students find boring. The lesson created is meant to get every student excited and wanting to learn more. This lesson plan is about the Middle Ages or the Medieval Times. This was a time where things were different. People dressed and spoke in a different way. There were lords, ladies, and knights; castles, moats, and fighting. What student could be bored learning about this era?
There are a plethora of different themes, motifs, and symbols to choose from in Beowulf. A recurring theme throughout Beowulf is generosity and hospitality, along with the importance of ones identity. One portion stands out the most against the first theme and it is; The Finnsburg Fragment. A motif that came to mind while reading Beowulf had to have been the importance of the Mead Hall. Something else to think about is the relation to the fall of the hall in The Finnsburg Fragment being told right after Beowulf’s victory against Grendel.
There is no question that Beowulf was a great leader. His fearlessness, selflessness, and faith in God all aided in shaping him into the great warrior and the great king that he was. Ancient civilizations and modern populations alike should all strive to live their lives in accordance with the characteristics of a great leader that Beowulf demonstrated, no matter where they come from or who they are.
The story of the epic hero, Beowulf, has been translated by many authors throughout the years. Among the many authors is Burton Raffel. Burton Raffel tried to instill or incorporate and project an emphasis on the importance of the qualities that a hero should posses. Burton Raffel translated Beowulf in 1963 after 44 other translations of Beowulf. As a translator, Burton Raffel faced what many other translators had to capture – the ideas of the author.

Haiti has three main massifs aka mountain ranges. It also has two peninsulas with the Gonave Gulf in between. With the Peninsulas, Haiti is shaped like a horseshoe on it’s side. Haiti is only about 28,000 square kilometers, which is very small compared to 169,790 square km just in Wisconsin. (it’s about the size of Maryland) The weather is usually between 70-80 degrees fahrenheit, but it can get up to 100 degrees, and tank to 60 degrees. It usually NEVER gets below 60 degrees. It is mainly all tropical, because mountains in the east cut off the wind.

A common definition may be a, “cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual and group striving”(Hofstede). An explanation that may be used to discuss the culture of the Middle Ages. Furthermore, it may be used to examine the changes in key aspects, such as, religion, gender roles, and social norms during the time period of approximately the 500s to the 1500s.
Normandy is a coastal district in France that lies almost directly across from England. Its name was derived from the groups of Northmen who settled in the district only a century or two before the Norman Conquest. Although the Norman population would be largely Scandinavian in origin during the ninth and tenth centuries, it would shift in the century spanning 966 to 1066 to a largely French population (Baugh, 1959, p. 128).
William Butler Yeats stated that, “Supreme are is a traditional statement of certain heroic and religious truths, passed on from age to age….” When he said this, he is most definitely talking about the Anglo-Saxon era and their style of writing. The Anglo-Saxons were very into warriors and heroes and how heir stories are handed down from generation to generation. When these stories were written down, monks wrote them down. The monks then added parts about God and the heavens, and about all the religious facts they could. Thus mixing the warrior and heroic mentality with the religious faith of the Christians.
