Introduction

Thailand or also known as the Kingdom of Thailand is located at the center of the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia. Its surrounding countries are Burma, Laos, and Cambodia. The capital city of Thailand is Bangkok, and the country predominantly follows the Buddhist faith. As of 2011 Thailand was the 21st most populous country in the world, with around 64 million people.

Thailand is notorious for its breathtaking scenery and famous tourist spots. However, what you might not know is that Thailand is currently facing a number of issues as a country; these issues can be summed up into three major categories: Environmental issues, Human Rights issues, and the South Thailand Insurgency. Each one of these issues is hurting both the people of Thailand and as well as the very land that these people call their home.

In this paper I will report to you the facts of these major issues, and the possible solutions that are presenting themselves.

Environmental Issues

Over the past twenty to thirty years Thailand has experienced dramatic economic growth. However, in Thailand’s case, with great economic growth comes extreme damage to the environment. Due to Thailand’s economic growth, it has caused a number of environmental issues such as air pollution, deforestation, and water pollution.

Air pollution has become a real cause for concern in Thailand, solely on the fact that countries from all over the world have outsourced and built manufacturing plants in Thailand, but more specifically in Bangkok. This has caused Bangkok to become the largest city in Thailand and become Thailand’s major contributor to air pollution.
