Introduction
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He served in office from 1861-1865. Lincoln was a self-taught Illinois lawyer who had a strong regard for challenging slavery. Lincoln’s inauguration to office caused the civil war to break out. He was a knowledgeable leader in this time period of the civil war. In 1863 he issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed all slaves in the United States. Two years later, in 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Booth.
During his time in office Lincoln abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, preserved the union and modernized the national economy. One of his most influential pieces was the Gettysburg address. It stands as one of the nation’s most famous and influential pieces of speechmaking American history. Perhaps Lincoln’s humble beginnings are what caused him to be an American favorite. Lincoln was a leader and a man of courage. He was influential, honorable and intelligent. Over the years Lincoln’s importance has only grown, and he is widely considered as one of the greatest presidents in the nation’s history. Lincoln’s legacy lives on through the United States forever.
Biographical information/early life
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. Lincoln was the second child of Nancy and Thomas Lincoln. In 1816 his family moved to Indiana. Lincoln’s formal source of schooling was limited to three brief periods in local schools. His parents spent their entire lives struggling in wilderness and poverty. He spent most of his time working in order to support his family. At the age of ten Lincoln’s mother died. In 1830 his family moved to southern Illinois. At this time Lincoln had no f...

...incoln has been remembered for his vital role and decisions during the civil war. Lincoln is also remembered for his character, leadership and his concise speeches and letters. Perhaps Lincoln will be remembered for the most is his humble beginnings and his determination that led him to the nation's presidency.
Conclusion
Lincoln was re-elected to office in1864. One year later Lincoln was assassinated on April14, 1865. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. Although Lincoln is no longer here on earth with us, it is his legacy that has lived on forever. Lincoln was the 16th president of the U.S. His intelleginece, leadership skills and humble personality are some of the qualities that will be remeberred of him forever.
