According to the American academy of dermatology, nearly all of the teens have experienced occasional breakout. Acne strikes all teens equally. The teen acne usually begins between the ages of ten and thirteen. Most of the cases of acne resolve by the time the person is in their twenties, though it is not unusual for it to continue into adulthood. Usually the normal cases require mild to moderate teenage acne treatments since they are just a passing phase of the skin.

The hormonal changes occurring in the commencement of puberty are responsible for teenage acne to breakout during the teen years. These hormones encourage the sebaceous glands or the oil glands to produce more oil, which creates oily skin that is more prone to pore blockages and acne breakouts. Studies show that stress and diet are also main acne triggers during the teen years.

Teens are more likely to jump from one acne treatment to another to an effective acne remedy. Teens who are upset about the state of their skin mostly use the topical treatments in excess in an attempt to speed the clearing of their skin. it is important for the teens to understand that any acne treatment, including the over the counter products need to be used as directed on the label. Applying them too often or in excess could cause dryness, redness, peeling, irritation and can worsen the situation, hence increasing the healing time of the acne.

Usually the teen acne is relatively mild, their skin condition affect the teens psychologically. It makes a big impact on their self esteem and self confidence. Young teens especially are more impatient to clear the acne out of their face and so they will start picking at it. You need to gently remind them to keep their hands away from their face or else the teenage acne treatment might take longer to show results. Explain to them how picking at them can aggravate the acne, making it more prominent and causing m ore breakouts.
