It’s 2014 and we are living, learning and performing everyday tasks in the future like the Jetsons. Technology has changed and continues to change many lives by the way we now communicate. In the past telephones, pagers, and written letters were the main ways of communicating. According to Dictionary.com, “technology is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science” (“Technology” Def 1). Technology, in the 21st century, has altered the way teenagers and other age groups communicate with each other in society on a day to day basis. With the invention and use of social networks and electronic devices, technology has made communicating faster, easier and more reliable which has improved society overall.
Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter give users the ability to instantly connect with others all over the world. According to Gustavo S. Mesch “studies conducted in the 1980’s reported that young people were likely to use online communication with peers they did not know” (Mesch 98). Electronic communication within the past 10 years has evolved and expanded to different places around world; people of all ages are now using instant messenger,

video conferencing tools like Skype, Oovoo and face time to chat with friends and family or perform business. Evidence shows “62 percent of kids from age nine to sixteen uses instant
messaging, 11 percent write or read a blog, and 59 percent have social networking profile” (Mesch 98). Also, according to Bird “my space has more than 100 million accounts with a demographi...

Cellphones, television, and computers are just three of the most popular ways that we communicate in today. They have made a substantial impact on the United States simply by being readily available and easy to use. People are often discussing how technology has impacted us. Many believe that technology is actually hindering society rather than helping it. Then there are those who doubt technology has made our social interactions better. Certainly, this is true; without the advances in technology, our level of social interaction in education, businesses, and relationships would diminish.

Modern society is a society of high technology. The Internet is gripping the world and all spheres of human activity. Online stores provide an opportunity to make purchases without leaving home; online translation allows you to view TV shows, news programs, and so on. The exchange of information, job search, communication between people, and leisure pass in a virtual world today. The Internet increases people’s capability. Social media “makes people more productive. We no longer look for the news or things of interest - they find us” (Qualman 239). The primary function of the Internet for society is communication. In today’s world, it is a commonplace for youth use web technologies for communication. Moreover, social networking has become a
Advanced technology has allowed people to become more informed and involved in their communities, while creating new relationships with others. According to a survey conducted among teenagers, “those who used their smartphones for social media like Google+ or Twitter knew more people and were more
in Livsey 1). With their thoughts, common sense, and emotions still developing, adolescents become susceptible to both positive and negative influence, causing them to feel the most significant impact from the consumption of social media. This allows social media to greatly hinder young minds from proper development and diminishes people’s ability to verbally communicate face-to-face, preventing the construction of personal relationships. Social networking creates a feeling of community for teenagers as the term ‘“social networking” is [currently] used to describe the communities built via technologies” (Braun 71). However, few intentional relationships form as people do not connect with one another in a personal manner via online conversation. They rather observe what someone displays online for others to view, not necessarily one’s true self, but one’s best or most popular self. Online networking creates social and psychological issues within teenagers as they become unable to formulate proper relationships, gain a distorted self-image, and expose themselves to the dangers of the internet such as cyber

In recent years, social networking sites have rapidly gained popularity among people at all ages. A large number of people have registered and become members of some social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Wechat. Also, people spend a lot of time on these sites chatting, playing games, and making friends. Social networking sites have become a part of people’s life. However, what accounts for the popularity of these sites? As far as I’m concerned, this phenomenon, which social networking sites are very popular nowadays, is caused by three important reasons.
Through the centuries, technology has changed communication. In the 19th century people communicated through mail by the use of the pony express and through the electrical speech machine, known today as the telephone. In the 20th century into the beginning of the 21st century the new technology of computers has become widely available to people around the world. With computers, the internet has changed the way people communicate today. Postal mail and telephones are still used, but advancing technology currently provides communication through instant messaging, e-mail, and webcams.
“We barely have time to pause and reflect these days on how far communicating through technology has progressed. Without even taking a deep breath, we’ve transitioned from email to chat to blogs to social networks and more recently to twitter” (Alan 2007). Communicating with technology has changed in many different ways. We usually “get in touch” with people through technology rather than speaking with them face to face. The most popular way people discuss things, with another individual, is through our phones. Phones have been around way before I was born in 1996, but throughout the years, they have developed a phone called a “smart phone”. The smart phone has all kinds of new things that we can use to socialize with our peers. On these new phones, we can connect with our friends or family on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Technology has also developed Skype, a place you can talk with people on the computer with instant voice and video for hours. The new communication changes have changed drastically from the new advances made in technology through our smart phones, social networking sites, and Skype.
In the twenty -first century, teenagers live in a life of social networking and life’s online. It’s hard to believe how much the world has changed over the decades, especially in technology. Technology helps people to contact relatives and friends from long distance more easily and conveniently. People can now talk to each other from everywhere in the world simply through chat and video calls. By time, internet connections have spread throughout households and social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram has increased gradually. However, the internet and several modern technologies have wasted many times and has hurt the society. Social media plays such a big role in people’s lives that some people couldn’t even imagine
