One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men but no machine can do the work of an extraordinary man - Elbert Hubbard. During 1914 advancements during this time period in history warfare was changed thanks to one great man who tyrannically eliminated his opponent and eschewed from the harsh conditions at war. Through every trench he caused cataclysm far deadlier than Isaac’s storm of 1900 and the inquiries of 37 million individual were abolished by his blistering ire and malevolent nature. Technology was his name and World War 1(WW1) was his game. Sweeping worldwide he made his way into a war that impacted many lives but fell short to others. Valid corroboration and substantial amounts of research have proven how technology made a great impact on WW1. Initially, WW1 brought many technical advances to the battle grounds proclaiming “Out with the old and in with the new’’. During this time a great influence contributing to the war of 1914 was technology. Horses, cattle, and canals were replaced with innovative machinery and by 1916 airplanes, anti-aircrafts, and submarines began to take service to the battle grounds. New weapons technology in the WW I resulted in indecisive battles and more casualties. With new technology came more disparaging power and useless and merciless massacres. World War I is momentous as it marked the introduction of many innovative types of weapons from industrial advances in history including electrical power, and other advancements.WW1 was acknowledged as a power source of all technical advances. New advances in technology changed warfare in WW2. The change in technology since WW1 has produced such things as Atom Bomb, and new and improved sea and air warfare. New techniques had to be used because of technology, techniques such as 'mouseholing'. More people were killed because of technology, as more people died in WW2 than WW1.The technological advances in WW2 changed the battlefield completely as more deadly auxiliary was introduced.

World War I was perhaps the greatest catalyst for military innovation in modern history. The speed in which the doctrinal, technical and tactical changes were developed and implemented was astounding. At the end of World War I, Britain was at the forefront of doctrinal and technological innovation in the field of armor and aircraft warfare. The factors which caused Britain to lose their innovative edge in these areas prior to World War II was the 10 year rule policy, operational attitude of the British Army, and an emphasis on land based aviation.
Weaponry underwent a drastic and beneficial change during World War 2. These changes included upgrades in mobility, power, and durability. The Tank became an essential, which was used on all fronts. Guns also rose to the foreground, and better guns meant battles won. Lastly, the most pivotal and remarkable technological improvement came with the great advances in bombs and missiles. Weapons certainly played a key role in World War 2.
By December 1914 the First World War had reached a dilemma on the western front that neither the triple entente nor the triple alliance had expected. The war had reached a stalemate, a state where both sides are so evenly balanced that neither can breakthrough against the enemy. The advances in Technology played a big role in creating the stalemate through strong defensive weaponry such as Machine Guns and Artillery, this caused ‘trench warfare’ (BOOK 48). Trench war is when troops from both sides are protected from the enemy’s firepower through trenches. Many advances in technology also attempted to break the stalemate throughout the war with tanks, gas and aircraft, these however failed. Eventually the stalemate was broken through a combination of improved technology, new strategies and the blockading of the German ports.

Also, radar made military leaders re-think the idea of a straight on attack. Instead of coming right at an opposing force leaders of militaries started to go around their targets and attempt to sneak attack them as Japan did at Pearl Harbor and Germany when it took over France.

World War 1 has been named the War to End all Wars, and with good reason. Thousands of lives were lost in the 4 year war and due to this; many have named WW1 a war of attrition. Attrition means ‘wearing down of the enemy’s strength’, and this is evident in many battles during the war. World War 1 involved combining new technology and 19th century tactics. Plans that were used were inflexible and often included cavalry. Tactics included bombarding the enemy with shells for a few days before attacking; meaning to kill the enemy and to cut wire but usually ended up only alerting the enemy that there was going to be an attack. Other tactics included running across no man’s land to get to the enemy’s trenches. No man’s land was the stretch of land that was in between the trenches, it was full of craters due to bombs and full of dead. However, this tactic only ended with men being mown down by the enemy’s large machine guns. The new technology of WW1 included machine guns, gas, tanks, bayonets, flamethrowers, rifles and grenades.

World War I is known as a war that occurred on extremely cruel terms; there were not many restrictions on what and when certain weapons could be used. Unfortunately, the Industrial Age brought with it many new ways to kill; the soldiers of World War I came in contact with many new weapons that they had never seen in combat.
