According to the article, What Makes a Great Teacher?, a student's education solely depends on the teacher alone and how he or she performs in the classroom. In this case, I am in favor of having the program, Teach for America, ensuring a good and ever-changing education for those students in need.
The videos embedded within the article gives a clear depiction of what a “good” teacher appears and acts like in front the classroom. These examples derive from actual teachers working with Teach for America illustrating a successful teacher and classroom. Although the Motivator, Tour Guide, Manager, and Connector are all great examples for teachers, current teachers should not epitomize and mimic one example but parallel all. I believe that a great teacher includes qualities from all four examples. Great teachers should not only be able to stimulate and induce an interest in learning but also engage with the projects and lessons, transcends discipline, and be able to incorporate modern ideas and experiences within the classroom. Becoming just the Motivator or just the Tour Guide will not have an effective education onto his or her classroom. But keep in mind, like the title states: what makes a great teacher? What makes him or her different from other teachers? And lastly, what are they doing different?
Teach for America is an important program for today's and future education because it establishes contemporary thoughts and teachings. Like Kuhn states, “society is changing so fast” (Kuhn). Many applicants for Teach for America often ignore the consequences of Teach for America including the chance of a decrease of the child's progression, the unforeseeable outliers who remain under par, and being unprepared for the future as a teacher.
Ultimately, I am very fond of Teach for America regardless of the concerns. The teachers participating in this program are creating a difference within the classroom and across the nation. So finally, what makes a great teacher? I believe a great teacher is one who cares about his or her student and is willing sacrifice their time for them. One who is willing to engage and challenge each of them for the betterment of their lives. It is often said that kids are the future but it is the teacher who educate them who makes the difference.

Across America, young people are being short changed due to a broken education system. Bliss is just one example of the shared frustration felt by students. In an interview, Jeff said one of his key points is the fact that it's not just about his education, it's about our education. "If we embrace this, I feel as if we can make a serious change and a positive change. But if we just want to ignore and push this to the side then I expect to see the same problems again and again." Though he was not punished for his actions by the district, Bliss reveals that after dropping out of school and returning the next year, he takes his education very seriously and expects his teachers to do the same (Collins). “You got to take this job serious, this is the future of this nation… this is my country’s future and my education,” said Jeff. A video of the outburst, taken by another student, has since gone viral on various social media outlets causing a buzz throughout the educational system. Bliss expressed his own opinion about the changes he wants to see implemented by saying, “I want to see a teacher stand up and interact with the students, get involved, discuss, talk, question and dig deep into the subject,” in the interview (Klein).
Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, the American educational system has undergone much transition in response to our changing society. Though there have been many problems raised throughout the years in regard to what our school systems should be teaching our children, there have also been many developments.
They help with problem solving and they ensure that every student can attain an excellent, along the way, regardless of their upbringing. Teach for America is making a dramatic change. They have significantly changed the injustice equity of education. I began to develop an interest in Teach for America when I found out that they value quality education for anyone, regardless. This is a good thing for me because as a young man from a low-income community I am able to have access to higher education and be a part of Teach for America’s movement. Teach for America recruits excellent teachers from prestigious schools to teach for two years in underprivileged urban and rural public schools to ensure students attain an excellent education. Teach for America has inspired me to become a better person and to have hope for the future. Since Teach for America existed I know that there are teachers and people who do not only care, but show commitment to social justice to teach successfully in high-need schools to ensure students like myself have a good education to be successful in
Teach For America specifically invests in corps and staff members that understand the current situation of public education. Corps then work to replace inequitable practices with stronger curriculum and infrastructure within their assigned schools. When determining who will be accepted as a teacher, Teach For America takes into account the current needs and opportunities of their regions. It does this through placing an applicant where they will have the best impact on the outcomes of the students as well as filling deficient areas like early childhood education, math, science, foreign language, and special education. Applicants also must meet standards like a minimum GPA and coursework prerequisites.
Teach For America provides me an exciting opportunity to help bridge the inequality gap for kids in low-income communities, while helping me grow towards my career goals. This organization will allow me to strengthen the abilities I have learned as a tutor for children in my community and cultivate the skills necessary to be successful in the legal profession. Both my experience helping low-income kids and ambition to develop the attributes of a legal professor will support my mission to be an accomplished corps member.

Ducharme begins with a sentence that basically sums up my reason for teaching, “I begin this essay by defining a great teacher as one who influences others in positive ways so that their lives are forever altered” (Ducharme, 1991 p. 2). Over the course of a student’s education they will have many teachers, but there are maybe only one or two who are THE teacher. The teacher who impacts this child’s life in a positive way forever. Compared to most countries in the world, the United States of America is privileged. Americans are entitled to freedoms other countries do not have: freedoms of speech, press, religion, assembly, petition, and the right to bear arms. Every American has the right to a basic education, regardless of race, gender, or income; all Americans could have at least a high school diploma. Although this is wonderful, the quality of the education people receive in the United States does not reach its full potential. With the resources available, the American education system should be better.
Today, education is one of the most highly debated areas in America. Schools all across the nation employ teachers to make children and young adults ready for life, college, and the workforce. According to http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/breakdown, the federal government is set to spend 1 trillion dollars on education in the fiscal year of 2014. But the increasing pressure that is put on to teachers is actually harming the education system. The ongoing dilemmas that are the lack of incentive for teachers, the tenures of teachers, and the focus on the “outcomes” of students, are causing the students’ education to be lacking.

International students look at America as this shining beacon of light, with endless opportunities and tools to help them succeed in life. Since 2007, enrolments from China have grown by 186.5% while enrolments from Saudi Arabia have grown by a staggering 332.9%.” This proves that, not only are messing situations up for our students, but for other countries as well. Teachers are extremely important, and are the people who lead our future. If teachers don’t get the increase in their salary, then this affects the world because a world with no education is a world with no growth.
I have had many excellent teachers throughout my educational experience, some of these have been wonderful teachers that have set lessons to life. Others have been boring, overly strict, unapproachable, and at times unknowledgeable. I have learned valuable lessons from both. A positive and fun learning environment makes students want to be in the classroom. The first step in learning is that the children must want to be there.
There are many things which make a teacher great and they all can`t be defined.However i`ve always considered several of them essential.In my opinion a good teacher is someonewho first of all creates interest in studying,doesn`t underestimate the children,has equal expectations of siccess from everyone and last but not least likes his job.
A Teacher Holds the Key to Knowledge, Success, and Fun The greatest gift a teacher can give students is a positive learning experience that lasts a lifetime. An outstanding teacher is a good role model, fair, consistent, and open to new ideas. A good teacher can motivate and entertain without students realizing the learning process it taking place. It is a great achievement for a teacher to see the “light bulb” come on over a student’s head when he/she understand a problem or can figure out an equation.
Our nation’s education system strives through the hard work and dedication of its educators. Often great teachers, principles and supporting staff are drawn to the profession because they possess the desire to empower, inspire, nurture and watch young people grow - not only academically, but also emotionally. These people are there because they want to make an impact upon our society and the lives of whom the reach. Highly effective teachers are those who have taken learning to new heights by accelerating student learning, closing achievement gaps that persisted for decades, and promoting a mindset of change. Moreover, the presence of highly effective teachers in classrooms today continues to manifest as a result of the support from strong school leaders (U.S. Department of Education, 2013).
