Taking a Look at Prostitution

“I will in the back parts of my mind, to drag out the stuff that scares me, that blocks me, that still make wonder, if I am still nothing but an object finding how to please others. The role of prostitution is never is to please without thought, to please without emotions, to please without knowing a past, and please without having pain. A prostitute is never as real as a human, she can never have the right to feel, have dreams, to know a past or have a future” (Mott). I don’t feel like prostitution should be legalized because it encourages human trafficking. It exploits women and some children and encourages a destructive career path.

Everyday men, women, and children from all around the world are stripped of their basic rights and trafficked as sex workers. Traffickers often pray on individuals who are poor or come from a low income family, the frequently unemployed, underemployed, and those who may lack access to social safety nets. Victims are often lured with a lot of false promises regarding job opportunities and helping them live better lives. Annually there are hundreds of thousands of mostly women and children being trafficked.

Prostitution plays a big role in the increasing number of human traffickers because the business is fueled by a demand for cheap labor and or services. It also brings high and quick profits with few startup costs. On average, countries where prostitution is legal experience larger reported human trafficking inflows. The demand thrives because when some people in the community is unaware of the issue, when government institutions are not trained to respond to it as often as other crimes, human traffickers perceive little risk to affect their operations (“fight trafficking in persons”).

It may not be guaranteed such as long term employment, prostitution isn’t much safer than your average jobs, you might not get any benefits, and no holidays or vacation days off. You can’t come up in that kind of business, you can’t get any recongnization, no respect and that’s what makes a bad career path.

Although some prostitution is a choice, some are not. That’s what a lot of people don’t realize until some of us can walk in their shoes and endure the pain and sffering, the missing of family memebers, and humiliation. I don’t think prostitution wont help the us economy, it wont combat the spread of sexually transmitted diseases or eliminate sex trafficking. We need our women off the street and safe not used for sexual acts in exchange for money. Our woman should no longer feel worthless and degraded that’s why we need to save our women.
