Tara and Margie walked hand-and-hand off of the elevator and through the main lobby. Tara paused when she reached the café and peered through the glass wall at the table she and Charlotte sat the day Laura Green approached them for the second time. It was the location her nightmare truly began. Until that point, Tom’s only known lie was his status with the army. Couple’s therapy may have helped her and Tom work through whatever issue led to his dishonesty. The double life he’d been leading was unforgivable. No amount of therapy would allow her to forgive him.
Tara left the hospital and slipped into the passenger seat of her mother’s car. “I’ve seen a dozen TV shows about men who lead double lives. I could never understand how women were so blind. Little did I know a deceitful man slept in my bed. I’m such a fool.”
“He fooled us all.”
“I’m his wife. I should have known.”
“Let’s get in touch with Charlotte and tell her we’re leaving first thing tomorrow morning. That will give her a few more hours with Tom and us time to sleep.”
Tara nodded.
“What else can I do?”
“Text Jenn and tell her and Lilly to meet us at the car. I want to get far away from this place.”

Lilly chattered about her father the entire ride back to the hotel. She told Jenn how much she loved him and asked Tara several times when she would see Tom again. It took every ounce of strength for Tara to refrain from telling Lilly what a horrible person Tom turned out to be. Rather, she complained of a headache and asked Lilly to sit softly in the back seat and take a script. Margie reached across the gear shift and squeezed Tara’s hand.
While Jenn and Margie ordered dinner from the hotel café, Tara gave Lilly a bath and got her into pajamas. She...

...ing a new relationship while her own marriage came to an end caused jealousy to stir in her gut or if she feared Jenn’s fickle attitude toward romantic relationships would hurt Brad. She hated the thought of Brad facing future heartache; especially at the hand of her own sister. “Brad’s been hurt before. Don’t get involved with him unless you’re looking for a serious relationship.”
“Okay, Mom.” she laughed.
Tara pursed her lips together and rolled her eyes. “I’m sensitive now that I’m going through…you know.”
Lilly ran into the room. “I’m ready to watch television,” she declared, jumping into bed. “Are you sleeping with us tonight Aunt Jenn?”
“Nope.” She picked Lilly up and turned her so her head set down on the pillow. “I am going to sleep in my own bed. Goodnight, sweetie.” She leaned down and kissed the child and then hugged Tara. “Sweet dreams.”
After the traumatic event, the Brennans are continuously mistreated, causing them to feel they are “no longer wanted” (Burke, pg 1). After feeling ostracised by the township, the alienated Brennan family are driven to leave the town of Mumbilli at 4:30am. With hardly any peer support, Tom begins to lose his sense of security, resulting in his transformation into an unconfident teen who is afraid of public opinion. It is no wonder that Tom is unable to move on in his new town as he is being held back in fear of revealing his past. Burke tactfully illustrates Tom’s emotional kaleidoscope through phrases such as “I felt the knot snap” and “my guts landing at my feet” (Burke, pg 172) when reflecting on the accident. On the contrary, with encouragement from family members, Tom begins to step out of his comfort zone and face the future that is to
“I hope your all good at story transitions. It’s two minutes so write quick.” Elizabeth shrugged.
The story turns out to be a real plot twist – Tara is actually jumped, not pushed as what Allison admitted to. Evans try to imply that because of the huge amount of suffering the character Tara has been through, she decided to jump because with that jump, she might be freed from people around her. It might also because she wants her parents to be there with her, since her parents doesn’t seem to have spent quite a time with her; they always busy with their environmental trips to many parts of the world. Tara wants to receive love and affection like every other 9 years old kid. It may also as a sign of rebellion towards her grandmother and to take over control of her mind and body – not being stranded by Lydia. In our society, many parents often neglected their children – care less about them and their development. Parents nowadays only drop their children off in the daycare or school, but never really teach them directly how to behave the community, giving examples how to take and give, and more importantly, sharing love and affection. They are too occupied by their own business that they forget to give their love and warmth to anyone around them – including their children. In this way, children are more likely to suffer from lack of attention and they will grow up without the feel being loved. This kind of situation could lead to lack of self-esteem and confidence, which will affect children’s mentality. Evans tries to suggest the readers that
Sarah shook her head and climbed beneath Lucy-Lou’s bed, as though having already seen it. Lucy-Lou kneeled down and peered underneath. She held out the plate of cookies. “Sooner or later, you’re gonna have to come out.”
Reading this book has changed my own perspective as a young woman. It offers every woman’s nightmare as an individual and a story that many people could compare to. Jen Waite’s memoir of a betrayal is a story you never want to stop reading. It’s like a car crash that I wasn’t able to look away from. This book includes various types of the six signposts, particularly “Words of the Wiser” and as well as “ Contradictions.” Certain things in this book really surprised me as I was reading. There were a lot of aha moments that made me wonder what was going to happen next. The things that were being done in this relationship should of ended way back, even when the couple went on there first ron da vu together. The longer they stayed together, the worse it got. One example, that has to do with “tough questions” signpost, was the fact that her husband was on the phone with his girlfriend while his wife was in labor. That really shows how he cared about her and what trouble he was going to get into. She knew something was going on by the phone records, the uber’s and social media. She confronted him and he denied it all. It was all so obvious that he was a pathological liar
“Mama and Mrs. Freeman will surely notice I’m gone. Well, I bet I’ll be home by lunchtime tomorrow,” she whispered to herself, truly believing the words spilling out of her mouth. Closing her eyes, she tried to drift into sleep, but her doubtful thoughts occupied her attention.
It is not a well known fact that around the time the Holocaust took place in Europe, another internment (less extreme) was taking place in the United States. “Betrayed by America” by Kristin Lewis gives readers an insight on what happened to Japanese-Americans in America. The article tells us about Hiroshi Shishima, Japanese-Americans internment, and what was going on during the regime. During WW2, America went into a frenzy after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Many Americans believed what was being said about Japanese-Americans even though it was proven to be false. Since the whole fiasco with Japan took place, many Japanese-Americans were forced into internment in certain parts of the United States. The reason for the internment of Japanese-Americans was due to fear & hysteria, racial
In Thomas King’s “’You’ll Never Believe What Happened’ Is a Great Way to Start,” a battle of stories can be seen in how different cultures tell the story of creation. These stories and the manner in which they are told are at the core of different possible belief systems, one Christian and the other more “traditional”. Each story suggests a different framework for viewing the world in its entirety. In some ways they may be interpreted as the root of such framework; in other ways these stories can be seen as small embodiments of a larger meta-narrative. It is within the larger narrative of colonialism that I will attempt to dissect several examples of this battle of stories.
“I am sure they’ll join us in common area at the halfway point, that is, if my sister is feeling up to it.”
He didn’t find her. She had ducked out the back while he was pushing through a crowd of friends, and gotten into he friends car. She hadn’t even seen him fully, only remembering the guy that lifted the host off the ground. To her this was a party she had no place at. Her friend had dragged her along and only conceded to leaving after incessant nagging by Rita. Down the night-shaded road the drove, away from Otis, yet still always heading right for him.
“Okay, Mom. I'll be up in a sec.”, he said as he pulled the covers up over his head, revealing his large feet that were hanging off the edge of the bed. His mom let out a sigh and left his room. Mark groaned and threw the blankets off of him and sat at the edge of the bed. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and went to the bathroom to brush
“Yeah, excellent idea. I need to call my wife and reassure her that I’m Okay and assuage her concerns about my safety.”
“Hey, Brett come on in. Freya went to the store. She should be back soon.”
“Yeah I’ll be alright. You can birr back to Mary I just want to be alone for a little bit.” Jane responded.
This morning, I woke to my mom leaning over my bed. "Spencer, my sweet, wake up. We're going to visit Grandma today," she
