Desert Storm, one of the most successful military ops in military history. They went in and went down to business then gone out just like every other mission should be done. Despite its brutality this Op could be decided as a U.S. victory.
Desert Storm all started with the Gulf war. The gulf war was started by two Eastern countries who always seem to fight over all of the little things in life that may or may not be true. It all started on the 17th of July in the year of 1990 when Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein thought that the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait of flooding the worlds oil industry. Rumaila oil field is a oil line that runs beneath the two countries. Hussein then accused Kuwait of stealing oil directly from the pipeline.
Then on the 22nd of August, Iraqi soldiers pervaded Kuwait taking and occupying everything of Kuwait government and property. Kuwait then sent out a cry for help to the big almighty country of the United States of America. Sheikh Jaber Al Sabah the current emir of Kuwait immediately met with the United State’s Secretary of Defense Richard Cheney at the time to ask for some sort of assistance to help get back Kuwait and drive the Iraqi forces back to Iraq. The United States then agreed with the Sabah and then started making plans of how they would take back Kuwait. The U.S gave specific orders to Saddam Hussein the leader of Iraq to withdraw his troop by the 15th of January of the year of 1991. If Hussein failed to do so the U.S would basically help Saddam and his military get out of Kuwait.
After no response from Hussein a group of UN forces decided to build in the neighboring country known as Saudi Arabia. On the 12th day of January President Bush was given the go ahead to wage war. The Gulf War w...

...lf War the Iraqis were a little ticked off due to their losses against the american soldiers they decided that they were not going to quit their war with us there. This war may have been one of the best military victories in military history but then again it also started up another war that would end up way worse than this one. Leading to one of the most brutal Iraq wars that the United States had which then later led up to the Afghan war. Desert Storm pretty much started a domino effect which the average civilian could look at and say that Desert Storm was bad or they could also say that it was good. Not only causing another war it also caused another disease. This disease which affects the war veterans from the Gulf War and Desert Storm. Leaving out the brutality of the Op it was a great success for the military so it can be marked down in the books of the good.
Desert Storm was a part of the Gulf War, Desert Storm was a codenamed Operation to get Iraq soldiers out of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. This was the first foreign crisis that the U.S. got involved in since the Cold war. It was because of saddam Hussein. Saddam ordered his Iraqi army to cross the border to Kuwait. This wasn’t some random attack by Iraq. but instead Iraq had been preparing for this for years, they knew what they were doing and were heavily equipped with weapons.
To learn more about this historical event, I interviewed a veteran of Desert Storm and more, the Persian Gulf War, my interviewee, Rob Hernandez. His roles, feelings toward, and frame of mind during this conflict were discussed during the interview. Operation Desert Storm occurred near the end of the Persian Gulf War with Iraq. According to Lt Col Paul D. Berg, Desert Storm was compared to the Spanish American-War when John Jay states that the Spanish American War was a “splendid little war.”
The Persian Gulf War started on 17 January 1991 in response to Iraq’s invasion and annexation
... Kuwait to get to the southern part of Iraq. In this situation, Iraq was left cornered. Also the movement of some of Osama Bin Laden's beliefs had greatly affected the war. This brought forth many opposing forces against the United States.
The Gulf war was a conflict that took place from 2 August 1990 to 28 February 1991. The reason for the United States involvement in this conflict was to liberate Kuwait from the invasion of Iraq. (Henry) SHORAD had a large role to play in this event through the protection against Iraq’s air breathing and munitions threats.
Operation Desert Storm took place between January 16 and February 24, 1991. The operation had four phases: 1) attacks against logistics infrastructure, and military communications systems and government electricity in Iraq; 2) attacks against the Iraq air force in Kuwait territory; 3) attacks targeting the Republican Guard Saddam Hussein, and the rest of enemy weapons; 4) conduct a ground invasion with a Coalition force to expel the invaders from Kuwait (Zarpelão, 2010).
When Iraq invaded and occupied the country of Kuwait in August 1990, the Bush administration was faced with several dilemmas. From a foreign policy point of view, this action could greatly destabilize the balance of power in a part of the world that was vital to U.S. interests. The United States was dependant on a continuous flow of oil to drive its economic machine, which Kuwait supplied greatly. In addition, this move would put more power into the hands of a government that was not only unfriendly to the U.S., but a sworn enemy of the state of Israel, a strong U.S. ally. In addition to, the fall of communism had created what George Bush had described as, "A new world order," and would become the first major test of how the U.S. would handle its role as the sole remaining super power in this "new world order." There were many challenges facing the Bush administration as to the manner in which they would handle this first major international crisis. The Bush administration had to develop a consensus of the major remaining powers, and appear not acting alone in its response to President Saddam Hussein's actions of invading Kuwait. They also yearned to keep Israel from being involved so as not to alienate the remaining Middle Eastern nations. Lastly, they faced a domestic dilemma, in that much of the American public had significant reservations about involving U.S. troops involved in a foreign conflict. There remained a bad taste of Vietnam among the American public, and there were very mixed responses to American involvement in Somalia, Nicaragua, and Grenada. For the Bush administration, Hussein was not a merchant who could be bargained with, but rather an outlaw who would have to be defeated by force. The Bush administration was faced with a task of developing (more or less) overwhelming support from the U.S. people to take any action in Kuwait, which was accomplished by a dramatic public relations move to demonize Saddam Hussein in the eyes of the American people.
Operation Desert Storm began January 17th, 1991 when Iraqi forces refused to withdraw after invading Kuwait. Iraqi President Saddam Hussein ordered to his troops to invade Kuwait after Kuwait refused to cancel Iraq’s debt for financing its war efforts. Saddam Hussein accused Kuwait of stealing oil from the Iraq-Kuwait border. He also accused the United States and Israel of encouraging Kuwait to lower its oil prices. On operation Senior Surprise, seven B-52G Stratofortesses left Barkdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, and flew 14,000 miles round trip and launched 35 cruise missiles at strategic Iraqi targets.
The Iraq war, also known as the second Gulf War, is a five-year, ongoing military campaign which started on March 20, 2003 with the invasion of Iraq by U.S. troops. One of the most controversial events in the history of the western world, the war has caused an unimaginable number of deaths, and spending of ridiculous amounts of money. The reason for invasion war Iraq’s alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction, which eventually was disproved by weapons inspectors. Many people question George W. Bush’s decision to engage a war in Iraq, but there might be greater reason why the decision was made. The ideas of George W. Bush might have been sculpted by one of the greatest works of all time, "The Prince."
After the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, President George Bush ordered a large force to deter further aggression. President Bush claimed that he had sufficient authority as president to launch the war without congressional approval. Like Truman, he relied on UN for backing for the war. The House reacted by passing a resolution stating that the President must seek approval from Congress before launching a war in the Gulf unless American lives were in imminent danger. The law ended up in federal court. The court ruled that it cannot decide such a political question, but criticized the President for believing that he alone could take the country to war in the absence of an
The fighting in the Middle East is a problem that effects a majority of the world even today in the 21 Century. The never ending fighting can be summed up as a battle of good versus evil. Whether it is fighting over oil rich countries or people fighting a dictatorship America is always the first country to answer the call for help. In the late part of the year 1990 dictator Sudan Hussain the leader of Iraq invades the oil rich country Kuwait. January 12, 1991 U.S. Congress passes a resolution authorizing the use of force to liberate Kuwait. Operation Desert Storm begins four days later with air strikes against Iraq (Americans Best History 1). Shortly after the airstrikes have taken place U.S. ground forces are on the battle field. Within 100 hours of ground fighting Iraq surrenders and a cease fire is called. The conditions of the cease fire call for Iraq to destroy all weapon stockpiles and agree to end its support of
The Persian Gulf War was a success for the United States and reinstated the nation as the predominate world superpower. As stated by our veterans, the United States soldiers had to work together as a unit in order to defeat the Iraqi military. Even though the actual war itself was short, the preparations the United States exercised is what helped guide them to victory. The victory helped install once again that the United States is a world power when it comes to military forces. Due to the rough causes of the war, the duration of the battle was quick and led to a successful aftermath for United States soldiers. Through blood, sweat, and tears, the soldiers clawed their way through the severe conditions of the Persian Gulf War. The United States proved once again that freedom does not come free and the soldiers will do anything to protect their freedom.
To first understand the Chemical Corp’s role during Operation Desert Storm, one must have knowledge of why the war began. Iraq invaded Kuwait in what was said to be done in a very aggressive manner, given the fact that Iraq at the time had the 4th largest Army in the world. Saddam Hussein was trying to gain control of the oil produced in Kuwait in order to pay off the debt accumulated in the Iran/ Iraq war. Kuwait was and still is a large supplier of oil to the United States as well as Saudi Arabia. Saddam Hussein was under the impression that his fellow Arab states would stand by and allow his occupation to occur. Iraq’s invasion threatened the oil connection between both countries and the United States. The President of the United States at that time, George Bush Sr., then gave Iraq a choice. Depart Kuwait or face the wrath of the United States Military.
Operation Vigilant Resolve is considered to be one of the largest blunders of the United States military during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Politics, negative press coverage, lack of operational planning, and the sheer number of the enemy in an urban environment contributed immensely to the failure of this operation. There were numerous casualties among the United States and allied forces, more than most previous battles in the Iraq Theater.
The Iraq War was a protracted armed conflict that began with the 2003 invasion of Iraq by a US-led coalition. The US wanted to destroy Saddam Hussein’s regime and bring democracy. To addition to that, US and its allies believed that Iraq had secret stocks of chemical and nuclear weapons, hence Iraq was a threat to the world (Axford 2010). In March 2003, US air bombed Baghdad and Saddam escaped Iraq. The invasion disarmed the government of Saddam Hussein. President Bush in March 2003 gave a premature speech, that tyrant of Iraq has fallen and US has freed its people. President Bush flew into Iraq to show the world that the war is over, even though nothing was accomplished (Kirk et al. 2014). Iraq was facing 13 years of scantions, therefore regime diverted its resources to flexible networks of patronage that kept it in power (Dodge 2007, 88). Iraq faced widespread of lawlessness and after the violent regime changed US could not control the situation. Iraqi civilians were looting, attacking ministries building and this resulted into a series of event (Kirk et al. 2014) . From a military perspective the regime was taken down, but they made no commitment to rebuild or secure the country.
