You will be hard pressed to find someone over the age of 25 that has not heard at least one song by the band out of New Jersey, Bon Jovi. The band got together in 1983 in Sayreville, New Jersey, made up of lead singer, Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist, Richie Sambora, keyboardist, David Bryan and Drummer, Tico Torres. Since the formation of the band, they have been making music for 30 years.
Before 1986, Bon Jovi released two albums: Bon Jovi(1984) and 7800 Degrees Fahrenheit(1985). They were able to build a pretty steady fan base from these two albums, though these albums did not have as much success in the mainstream rock market as their third album, Slippery When Wet.
Slippery When Wet, was the third album released by Bon Jovi. The release date was August 18, 1986 on Mercury Records. This album is the best selling album for the band, having over twelve million sold in the United States alone! The album also went on to be number twenty-one on the list of best selling studio albums of all time.
The first track is “Let It Rock”. This song was written by Richie Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi. This song is up tempo and, like most songs on this record, has interesting sound that comes from the use of the keyboard. The song starts out with a keyboard solo, and then the other instruments join in harmony establishing the beat and tempo. Electric guitar makes use of distortion to add some interest to the riffs and solos. The song is a verse/chorus organization and is also an endless loop with the music fading out in the end of the five minutes.

With the intro and end of the song instrumental, the harmony between the instruments is very important. The execution by Bon Jovi on this track was exactly right.
Slippery When Wet has to be one of my favorite albums ever! I think many of these songs have had the ability to speak to the generations that have come after the initial release. It is rare to find a CD that you want to listen to all the songs back to back, but this is one of them. The new generations are hearing the new releases from the band, but I know many are going back and listening to this album, which in reviews on the Bon Jovi website, it is being called “epic”. This is exactly how I feel about all of these songs.

The overall sound of the album was combination of rap lyrics over some rocking beats. The instrumentation used is electric guitar and bass. In the song (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!), the guitar, and drums are clearly heard especially on off beats of the rap lyrics. The album has a very upbeat sound in general with some more traditional rock and roll guitars cords, but the rap lyrics is what made this album the first of its kind. The song (You gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!), was inducted into The Rock and Roll hall of fame’s 500 songs that shaped rock n roll. (Rolling Stones) Daniella Kohavy points out how in “Rhymin’ And Stealin,” the first track on the album, samples Led Zeppelin, The Clash, and Black Sabbath; the epitomes of rock and punk rock”. The album created in less than a year. They gained inspiration from the music of many rock bands, such as Kerry King from slayer.
The Dave Matthews Band has been a musical power house for years. They have meshed together almost every type of music together to create their extremely unique sounds and attractiveness towards their music. Dave Matthews, lead singer and guitarist from South Africa has put together a band that no one will ever be able to create again. Dave picked four extremely talented and unique sounding men to join his band and together they have created some amazing music. The members of the band include Stefan Lessard on bass, Boyd Tinsley on violin, Leroi Moore on saxophone and one of the best drummers in the world, Carter Beauford. Together these men will one day leave behind a similar reputation as one of the all time greatest "jam" bands of time.

Billy Joel was born on May 9, 1949 in Bronx, New York. He moved at the age of four to a small town on Long Island. This is where at the ripe age of four he discovered the art of music. Originally a classical music fan, Billy Joel honed his skills with classical piano training. This undoubtedly has had a major influence on his life and certainly his music. Growing up Joel was a big fan of such greats as Ray Charles, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Otis Reading. He was greatly persuaded into a career of music when he saw the Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. Amusingly Joel's first band was inspired by the uncanny opportunity to meet girls. The band was called The Echoes, but this was not the best of times for Joel because his parents were involved in a messy divorce, which included serious financial shortcomings. Joel even began working professional music gigs at night to help support his mother. Joel's schoolwork suffered a little and he began missing school way too often. He was subsequently not allowed to graduate with his high school class due to the number of absences. After high school Joel immediately joined a very popular band called The Hassels for which he recorded two albums with. Within two years Joel was on to a new band which he named Attila, and featured heavy metal drummer Jon Small who he played with during his time with The Hassels. Despite the previous release of two albums Joel still needed to bring in more money so he worked many music related jobs and gigs. They toured Scandinavia for awhile also to complete their obligations to the Yardbirds.
Many say that music has evolved over the years. This essay shall explore the elements of two versions of one song. It shall discuss the correlations and disparities of these songs and confer how it has been revolutionised to entertain the audiences of today.
The first song, “Love for Sale” had a constant tempo. It also had a slow, funky, and earthy sound to it, which would make it fall under the blues category. The guitarist seemed to be improvising during his solo. The drummer was mostly using the crash cymbal and the high hat. He was also acting as the timekeeper in this piece. The second song entitled “Once I Loved” was a standard tune from Brazil. It had a similar sound as “Love for Sale,” however one of the differences was that the bassist was using the pizzicato technique instead of the arco technique as he did in the first piece, except during his solo.
