MY BIG MOMENT The idea of living in a new environment always enticed me. When I was younger, I used to picture what life would be like as a sophisticated professional. I imagined myself bustling through the streets of Manhattan, business suit-clad, on my way to meet with a client. That was as far as the fantasy went, but I’ve always thought there was something more to my childhood musings, a morsel of real ambition. I wanted to be independent, to be busy and to be relied upon by others. Although, I still have many of the same goals I had as a child, my experience feels somehow incomplete. I can’t help but feel that I am stuck in that murky place between where dreams are conceived and dreams are realized. Stricken with rickets, attention deficit disorder, a severed facial nerve, and being voted "most likely to end up in the electric chair" by his fifth grade class, this individual triumphed over many obstacles. As an aspiring writer and actor he was rejected as an extra in the film The Godfather and was persuaded to switch careers for more realistic goals. Sparks of genius were recognized in his script writing, but he was told only legitimate actors would have a chance at performing the title roles.
Throughout high school I have dreamed of having the opportunity to attend Indiana University. I have a true passion for babies. I love to learn how babies are developed and how they become such an amazing part of the world. Therefore, I would like to apply to Indiana University and pursue a degree in Pediatric Nursing. I would love to be able to deliver babies and deliver new life into this earth. There are several opportunities available for me to get involved with new leadership opportunities. I want to be able to be a leader for all age groups.
I would like to thank Salish Kootenai College for giving me the wonderful opportunity of applying for STEM academy. If somebody had told me that I would be applying for college classes as a sophomore, I would not have believed them. My parents have always told me that when an opportunity comes, you should take it, and I do not plan on letting this experience go to waste. Education has been a big part of my life, and this academy can only help me move forward. That being said, here are a few reasons why I should be considered a candidate for the STEM academy. Joining the STEM academy will allow me to further my knowledge and help me to get closer to my goals, my academic career would flourish, and I would be closer to my ambition for my future. I am determined to become the best and most educated version of myself that I can possibly be.
The election night of 2000 was a pivotal moment in my life. I stayed up all night on November 7th, 2000, not because I was enthralled with watching Florida flip-flop between Gore and Bush, but because I had an IV in my arm which made it impossible to be comfortable. Earlier that evening, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, a disease affecting 1 of 800 people in America. This was an especially crucial time in my life, considering I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis—an autoimmune disease that attacks the GI track in 1 of 1400 Americans—the June before, and I had my Bar-Mitzvah in September. According to the Jewish religion, I had become an adult, and as such, I had decided to greet my new medical challenges with gusto, attempting to see the silver lining from the very beginning. I cannot say that I am glad I was nature’s statistical anomaly, but I am thankful for the opportunity to see from a young age how to turn a tough situation into a positive. After almost nine years, I come back to this pivotal night in my life because it marked a change that still plays a part in my life now, and will continue to shape me in the future.
College Admissions Essay If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there.
Since my first visit at the Air Force Academy as a young boy, I instantly realized this is where I want to go. Ironically, I never why I wanted to go, was it my parents will or the expectations of others and myself? As I started to mature and grow, I learned more about the academy and what it really meant to become a cadet. The opportunity to have a world class education pushed me to pursue acceptance to the Academy. Going to the Summer Seminar will give me a chance to explore many aspects of cadet life to further enrich my interest in the Academy.
Looking back in time, I realize that God set the stage for me working with multi-ethnic ministry by ordering each step and influencing every endeavor. For over thirty years, I educated a broad sector of Illinois public school children representative of different economic, racial, cultural and environmental backgrounds.
Travelling around the world gives an individual a unique perspective of life, culture and tolerance. In the tenth grade, I had the opportunity to embark on a journey which provided me with a unique perspective and view of humanity. Similar to my other trips to Europe my initial intention was to enjoy two-weeks away from school in continental Europe, however I was flabbergasted when I realized this two-week trip would serve to destroy my idealist view of a pluralistic society. I was destined for Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic to study the Holocaust.
My main goal while attending Baylor would be to achieve the best education possible and improve myself as a person, as well as grow stronger in my faith. I am looking to become a Pre-Nursing student and I have heard that Baylor contains one of the best medical programs in this area, prompting it to be on the top of my list of potential colleges. One of the main reasons i was drawn to Baylor is it’s strong Baptist roots. I am a strong Christian and I strive to be the salt and light of the world, as Jesus called us to be. I see great potential for Baylor to help me grow in my faith while also preparing me for my future career.
When notified by a few peers that they had seen my name on a nomination list for the National Honor Society, I was surprised and genuinely flattered. After researching more about what it was, it was an honor to be recognized for all I do every day in order to be successful in life. Every year I make sure I take every opportunity to get the best education I can, like all honors or AP classes. My freshman year, I took AP Biology and have to admit I was initially intimidated, but I knew if I applied myself and kept on going through the course it would benefit me in the long run and I ended with a B and was ecstatic when I discovered that I passed the AP test. Passing one AP course gave me the ambition to go ahead and take more, so next year I plan on taking three AP classes; Psychology, Environmental Science and U.S. History. Along with these, I am very set on dual enrolling. I’m willing to work as hard as I can in order to ensure my success.
As a low-income student in high school, I used my application fee waivers, to apply to four Cal State Universities and four University of California schools. I did not apply to any private universities, for the simple fact that I lacked guidance and information about the schools as well as the probability that I would be accepted to such schools. When I was denied from my top choice (the University of California, Los Angeles), I decided to attend the best school I was accepted to—the University of California, Santa Barbara. In the following section, I will discuss the individual, societal and cultural influences in my college choice process that led to my decision to attend UCSB.
I am a cocoon still on the verge of transformation. In order for me to grow as a person, there are many procedures that are crucial. NJ LEEP’s College Bound Program is specifically one of the essential steps. This program will allow me to improve myself. It can enhance my time management and allow me to ponder in a distinctive way, too. In addition, I can obtain a higher amount of knowledge through the program’s rigorous courses. I realized through my five years in Harrison, I was not exposed to how life really works. Therefore, my opportunities to experience the real world and meeting new people were minimal. Harrison restricts my life experiences. However, NJ LEEP provides opportunities that will benefit me. Overcoming fears might be difficult, such as public speaking. I have always had a passion to learn. My interest is in political theory and economics, hoping someday to become a lawyer and stateswoman. I realize that in order to reach any of these goals, a college degree is vital. When I in turn reach my goals, I will use them to encourage and uplift my community by investing my time, money, energy, and influence to become a stepping stone for others.
Taking a retrospective journey to my high-school days, I vividly remember the mixed feelings that I had in choosing a program that would help me shape my career in academics and religious studies. I always made myself clear that I should select a field of study that would give me room to explore, hone my skills, and ultimately shape my ideals. Right from the beginning of my career, I have been involved in pursuing religious studies and was committed to teaching children. I enrolled myself for Bachelor’s degree in Religious studies as my area of specialization in the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Charlotte, NC. This degree has helped me to hone my skill sets in describing, comparing, interpreting, and explaining religion. In addition, my graduation helped me to understand the significance of religion and its impact on people. After completion of my Bachelor’s degree, I pursued a master’s degree in Urban Ministry Studies in Martin University in Indianapolis, IN. This education helped me to building my leadership skills and also provided me the scope for developing my analytical and communication skills. After graduation from KOREA University, I decided to enter Hyndai MotorCompany(HMC), which is the largest Korean car manufacturer and global player, to pursue a career as an international businessman. In January 1991, I joined Domestic Finance Team of HMC. My specific assignment was to plan monthly and annual financial schedules for HMC's domestic funding needs. About two years later, in January of 1993, I was transferred to Retail Finance Team from Domestic Finance Team and responsible for financing by the sales and factoring of Car Receivables.
