Morris Bishop’s poem has elaborately depicted a classical greek legend with a unique approach. The legend itself briefly describes the perishment of Phaethon, who insisted to ride his father, Apollo’s chariot although Apollo have discouraged him to do so. Likewise, the poem introduces a father who used the legend of Phaethon to deter his teenaged son from driving “the car”. By clearly implementing a sarcastic humour and tone through the impressive imagery, and the upbeat rhyme, rhythm, the poem addresses some of the key aspects of a parent’s attitude towards the child. Bishop suggests that in order to keep their child in their “wonted courses”, it is essential for parents to carry out the obligation to address their child’s sense of limit.
Narratives are an important part of an essay as they create a sense of tone needed to describe a story or situation with ease. If the narrative is not correct, it can leave a false impact on the readers or viewers because it lacks the main tone of the story. Having a perfect narrative can not only enhance a story, but it can also prove evidence. In her essay, “An Army of One: Me”, Jean Twenge provides some of the best examples of how narratives enhance a story and she also emphasizes on how the tone of storytelling matters on the impact that the story would have on its readers or listeners. Apart from Twenge, Tim O’Brien also focuses on how the narrative of the story can help in understanding the truth and falsity of the story in his essay, “How to Tell a True War Story.” In addition to O’Brien, Ethan Watters also emphasizes on the narrative of cultural progress in his essay, “The Mega-Marketing of Depression in Japan”, when he talks about the anti-depressants to be sold in Japan. All three authors agree to the fact that narrative, the art of telling a story or explaining a situation, has a major impact on the story and on how it is taken by the audience.

In conclusion, this was an awesome story. The above questions were the catalyst to the real truth that would make the brother to that little girl free at last. His son was determined to break the cycle and remedy this generational condition, although the means by which he used were terrible. But, he would get through to his father. He shed light in the dark place by first beating his father into sobriety, so that he could think clearly. He then helped his father to open up to the discussion concerning the secret he had held on to for so long. Then, he also convinced his father to burn the “Shawl” of his deceased sister. And finally, his father realized what the true story was. A story that would in turn loose the tie that bound them all together with generational sorrows.

At the time, Skellig is no more than a slightly spooky mystery to him. Yet, this does not stop him from asking if there is anything he can do to help his sister get better. This shows us how he is willing to overcome any reservation and social norm to do what he can to save his sister. He would rather ask a total stranger for help than stand idly by. Once upon a time a 22 year old man named Zacus was walking on the dirt path toward his day job as a blacksmith's apprentice. Where he got paid only enough to support himself. However if he happened to come across a small child, Zacus would be nice enough to give him at least half a meal. He arrived at the blacksmith shop, grabbed an apron, read what his boss had left for him to do while he was out hunting squirrel. The thorough list told him to forge a sword that would be placed in a stone and put in the center of the village. He continued each hour with the same process until his work hours were over.
It was Sunday October 8th about 8:45pm, when Daniel “Peg Leg” Sullivan went to visit the O’Learys’ house only to find out they were asleep. So Sullivan walked across the street to Thomas White’s house and sat down to lean against the fence. The wind was very strong that night and there was a party at the McLaughlin’s to celebrate the arrival of a relative from Ireland. Sullivan decided to go home when he noticed a fire in the O’Learys’ barn. He started shouting, “FIRE!” as loud as he could and ran to the barn to save the five cows, horse, and calf inside. As he did, his peg leg got stuck in the floorboards. He hung onto the calf as they made their way out (13, 14,15).
“The Father” by Carolyn Osborn is a story about Darwin and Casey, a couple who meet and begin a whirlwind love affair. This love affair leads to an unexpected pregnancy. Casey, the mother, leaves when the baby is just one month old only to return when the child is three years old. Soon, Darwin is caught in a court battle for custody of a son. Two days before the court date, Darwin discovers he is not the biological father of the child. This makes no difference to Darwin as he has loved and cared for the child since he was born. The central idea of this story is that sometimes the best parent isn’t always the biological parent.
Controversies and conflicts are many ways to emphasize key characters and plots in many novels. Authors such as, Maryse Conde use change and the effects of change, to help the reader better understand the underlying themes. In the novel Segu, Conde does just this. The controversy of change in religion creates a fairly large civil conflict amongst the Bambara people. This same civil conflict eventually boils over into the controversy of change in people and trade. The effect of this change would later be described as the world’s lowest point of society.
The story begins with the three Peverell brothers that use magic to cross a very dangerous river by creating a bridge. While crossing over the bridge, a hooded figure appears. The figure is Death, who appears astonished by the fact they have outsmarted him. Death then rewards them with three wishes. The eldest of the three, Antioch, asks for a wand that is all powerful, one that will always win in a battle. Cadmus, the middle brother, ask for the ability to recall or revive the dead. Death then gifts him with a resurrection stone. The youngest of the brothers, Ignotus, asks for the power to hide from Death. He wanted to be able to hide from Death, he is then given an invisibility cloak. Later on with the Elder wand, Antioch goes after a man who had once wronged him and decides to kill him. Once he has committed this crime, he decides to celebrate with a visit to the bar. In the bar, Antioch becomes intoxicated and begins to brag about the power the wand has. Later that night the wand is taken and he is killed. Death has claimed him. At one point in his early life, Cadmus’s heart became broken. He decides to use the stone and try to bring back the love of his life. Once she is alive again, she is distant, cold, and not herself. Powder, a short story written by Tobias Wolff, is about a boy and his father on a Christmas Eve outing. As the story unfolds, it appears to run deeper than only a story about a boy and his father on a simple adventure in the snow. It is an account of a boy and his father’s relationship, or maybe the lack of one. Powder is narrated by a grown-up version of the boy. In this tale, the roles of the boy and his father emerge completely opposite than what they are supposed to be but may prove to be entirely different from the reader’s first observation.
The Story begins with the two main characters, Vladamir and Estragon, meeting near a tree. They begin to learn about one another and eventually tell each other that they are waiting for a man named Godot. They wonder if they are there on the correct day or even the correct spot. They begin to conflict with one another and eventually make up. They come with a plan to hang themselves from the tree, but finally decide to wait and see what Godot has to say. When Estragon gets hungry, Vladamir hands him a carrot. As they continue to wait two other characters enter the scene. Lucky, who is a slave, is being sent to the market by his owner Pozzo. Pozzo is dragging Lucky by a rope around his neck. Vladamir and Estragon converse a bit with Pozzo whilst being entertained by Lucky. Lucky does a variety of things including dancing as well as thinking. Lucky eats some chicken in which Estragon asks if he can have the bones. Lucky does not respond and so Estragon takes the bones. Vladamir gets livid with Pozzo’s treatment of Lucky. After being embarrassed at his own outburst, Vladamir decides he wants to leave. Pozzo reminds Vladamir he needs to stay and that he has an appointment with Godot. After learning much more information about the sixty years Lucky has served Pozzo, they ask him to think. Pozzo places a hat on Lucky in which he begins to speak a whole lot of gibberis...
