An individual does not have to be a profound doctor to watch House, a show that focuses on a cranky old doctor named House who can diagnose any illness ever existed. In one of the episodes of House, House is waiting for Vicodin medication at the Pharmacy in order to suppress pain from his tissue-damaged leg. However, Vicodin can be highly addictive that could cause possible symptoms in the body. Vicodin is a type of prescription medication that blocks pain receptors in the brain making it an addictive drug among hospital patients.
Vicodin is prescribed by doctors to relieve pain in the body. For example, Vicodin contains two ingredients responsible for suppressing pain, which are hydrocodone and oxycodone. Both of these ingredients belong to a class of narcotic medications called opiates that makes Vicodin a central nervous system depressant (Hydrocodone: MedlinePlus Drug Information) . Vicodin is an effective painkiller that makes individuals highly addictive Vicodin is a depressant drug, which would slow down the brain processes in the body responsible for daily function. In addition, individuals who take Vicodin tend to feel a rush of euphoria and relaxation in the body. Individuals would feel nauseated, and have extreme drowsiness (Vicodin Oral : Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Pictures, Warnings & Dosing). Consuming an excessive amount of Vicodin would cause the individual to have a tolerance for the drug, which could lead to long term liver damage (The Effects of Vicodin Use). When there is no more pain, individuals want to continue having this feeing, so they would be able to function. If the liver is damaged then the body would not be able to filter out the toxins in the body. Vicodin can relieve pain, but consuming too ...

Opiates are a class of drugs that are used for chronic pain. Opioids are substances that are used to relieve pain by binding opiate receptors throughout the body, and in the brain. These areas in the brain control pain and also emotions, producing a feeling of excitement or happiness. As the brain gets used to these feelings, and the body builds a tolerance to the opioids, there is a need for more opioids and then the possibility of addiction.
Opioids are prescribed to help people; prescription opioids can be used to treat moderate-to-severe pain and are often prescribed following surgery or injury, or for health conditions such as cancer (Prescription Opioids). When taken as directed, opioids are safe and effective treatment options for relieving debilitating chronic pain (Highsmith). Doctors have screening protocol they follow before prescribing an opioid. Doctors ask patients about their past to see if any substance abuse was present, to rule out patients with a higher risk of becoming addicted to prescription opioids. Nonetheless, if the medication is used as directed, not only is your risk of addiction minimal, the odds of enjoying a better quality of life will be in your favor (Highsmith). In other words, doctors are doing their part to prevent prescription opioid drug abuse. Actually, dishonest people are the ones at
A few common opioid pain killers are called hydrocodone and oxycodone. They are chemically very similar to opiates derived directly from the opium poppy

Almost overnight one such venerable substance (or class of substances) has been catapulted into the national spotlight: prescription painkillers, namely those derived from the opium poppy. This class of analgesic encompasses everything from the codeine in prescription cough syrup to the morphine used in the management of sever pain. These compounds are commonly referred to as opiates and are produced naturally by the poppy. The sub-class of this type that has gotten all of the attention recently is the opioids, which are semi-synthetic compounds derived from the opiates (Wade 846). Opioids were developed for a variety of reasons, such as reducing the cost of production (morphine is expensive to synthesize) and attempting to reduce the addictiveness of the drugs.
One of the reasons the epidemic has become so widespread is due to the addictiveness of opioids. Opioids are prescription medications used to treat pain, with oxycodone and hydrocodone being the more popular drugs (Mayo). Opioids are addictive because of the way

However, the risk of disability and death due to opioids was significantly higher than in non-opioid treatments with an odds ratio of 122.5.2 Therefore, future research must occur to find a safe and long-term solution for chronic pain management. The pertinent issue is to find a drug that has a low risk of abuse and dependence while significantly lowering pain in patients, as this is often the most difficult part of chronic pain management. Extensive clinical trials must occur for drugs that are intended for chronic pain management as side effects will possibly occur much later due to the long-term aspect in contrast to drugs intended for acute
Understanding this problem begins with education about the type of drugs being abused. Opiates, or opioids, are a type of drug that relieves pain. Painkillers interact with nerve endings in the brain, stopping them from sending the message to your brain that you are in pain. Taking this medication results in lose of pain and a temporary high. If a patient takes pain pills for too long, they can begin to form a tolerance to lower doses, causing the physician to have to continually raise the amount being put into their bodies. After extended use, opiates can cause iatrogenic addiction, “most likely to occur with long-term use and/or high does of a prescription drug” (Kendal1 l75). Even though opiates have been used to treat pain in the medical field for years, research is indicating negative side effects. Some of these, interesting enou...
First, we need to have a clear understanding on how opioids work in our brain. As explained by The Recovery Village, “When an abuser takes an opiate, the drug enters the brain through the bloodstream, creating a flood of artificial endorphins and dopamine -neurotransmitters responsible for feelings of reward, pleasure and satisfaction. This creates a rush of happiness and euphoria.” This helps us comprehend that the drugs will only give us a temporary high and it’s satisfying for some people because you are unable to naturally feel the pain. After, a period of time these opioids become addicted because many people would prefer to feel this rush of happiness than to deal with pain, it’s like an easy way out. There is no harm when taken as prescribed,
These symptoms also show the health hazards. Once the body begins taken Vicodin or any prescription drug, it begins to form a dependence which makes it very difficult to stop taking it. The symptoms the body experiences when suffering from addiction can help increase the intake of drug by the user. The worse they feel from the drug, the more they will end up taking the drug (Caldwell, 2013). In addition to this, the user must continually increase the doses in order to experience the same effect which can increase the users risk of an overdose which could result in death (Henry
