Statement of Purpose
Technical University of Munich
Department of Informatics
I am a senior Bachelor student at Computer Engineering Department of Galatasaray University and I am writing this statement of purpose for my application to Technical University of Munich Computational Science and Engineering master program. In this essay, I will briefly state my background, my interests and why I am a sufficient candidate for the TUM CSE master program.
My enjoyable interaction with computers goes back one decade to the first moment when I first learned to program. In high school, I was an intern every summer at the IT department where my father works. People around know me as the tech-guy since. With that, I can say I knew that I will be studying computer engineering after high school.
Being ranked in the top 1% among millions of students who want to enroll in a university, I chose to study at Galatasaray University. Throughout my bachelor years up to now, I have always sought for more. I have improved my programming skills by taking elective courses, competing in different competitions and contributing open source projects. Among these courses I took, the most interesting ones were Artificial Intelligence, Numerical Analysis, Parallel Programming, Computer Architecture and Networks. I also took online courses at various websites and attended many seminars to sharpen my skills. Since Galatasaray University attaches as much importance to mathematical courses as the programming courses, I have gained a solid background in advanced mathematics.
At the 4th semester of my studies, me and my team awarded with the jury's special prize at the IBM Software Academy (2012). Our project was to create a system that can i...

...ation we made, I had learned fascinating stuff in subjects like weather prediction. My curiosity pushed me to doing a lot of research, read a lot of articles about computational science. In the end I realized, with my education, my mathematical background and my programming skills, I can and I should deal with large scale problems. That is why I decided to have a master's degree in computational science and engineering.
Thanks to the mathematical background and the programming skills that I have combined with engineering approach I have gained, I strongly believe that I am sufficient to be a good candidate for TUM CSE. I have no doubt that TUM CSE will take me to an international level with its education system and strong relations with multinational companies. Therefore, it would be a privilege to be able to secure admission to pursue graduate studies at TUM CSE.
We live in a world that can’t live without binary code anymore. Computers have pervaded so deep in our lives that they are now being called ubiquitous. With phenomenal increase in users, has come a phenomenal increase in data. We generate a vast amount of data through activities on our computing devices making it necessary to employ intelligent algorithms which enable the system to learn from and analyze this vast dataset. Fortunately, the advent of Distributed Computing has created avenues to access virtually limitless computing power even through mobile devices thus, allowing us to use highly complex and large scale algorithms. However, with all this power under the hood, it is important to make the computers as usable and receptive to users as possible. I believe this interdisciplinary paradigm will have far reaching impact on industries, governments as well as our daily lives which is why I am so interested in research concerning Information Management and Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Human Computer Interaction, and Mobile and Internet Computing.

I have always been interested in working with technology. Ever since when I was thirteen years old, I have spent almost all of my life savings just to buy a laptop and actually experience it on what it can other than browsing on the internet.
I was always interested in how computers and computer chips worked. I was so intrigued that I even broke a mouse open to look at the chips inside. The event that made it clear I was impassioned for engineering was the MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) competition in my junior year of high school. I was in a team of five people, to build an underwater robot that would compete against ten other schools. We were competing against schools that had one or two years of experience, and some that had three to five years of experience.
The undergraduate program of "Computer Engineering – Software" at the Azad University of Tehran, Iran provided me with a strong foundation of Software Engineering and exposed me to its various fields. I have always been interested in data-related problems, which eventually led to an inclination towards software analysis and design methods for data-intensive
Computer Hardware Engineering is something that sparked my interest when I was younger. I was very young when I was first introduced to computers and consoles and such. It mainly started when I was very young and my older brother showed me video games, on systems like the Gameboy. The Gameboy was basically how I started to become interested in video games, and after the handhelds I began to play on consoles. Then in the past couple of years I started to invest my time into computers, or PCs.
