“Complex things are made using simple concepts and principles." Looking back at my schooling days, this was the essence of thought that went through my mind, as I fidgeted with the various pieces of white goods I found at home. This curiosity for knowing "how things worked" has come a long way, from a science club member, who demonstrated experiments to fellow students in school to a "How Things Work" event volunteer in my high school. Even today, when I look at a multi-task horizontal machining centre, my mind wanders around the wonders of man-machine capabilities.
Math and Physical Sciences exposed me to new concepts and my quest to use them for practical applications prompted me to continue my studies in engineering. An affinity for mechanical devices led me to enrol myself in the Mechanical Engineering curriculum.
It is after a good deal of self-assessment that I have decided to follow post-graduate studies in Industrial Engineering. This decision followed after considering my areas of interest and professional ambition which is to pursue a career in Industrial Engineering. Anybody and everybody can become an industrial machinery mechanic; especially, those who are passionate about getting their hands plastered in motor oil, grease, and other mechanical lubricants. These people will more than likely be ecstatic about getting into industrial machinery mechanics. They need to be able to put in one hundred ten percent of their effort into becoming an industrial machinery mechanic. An industrial machinery mechanic’s overall objective on the job is to stop a mechanical error before it happens. An industrial machinery mechanics are often caught repairing, maintaining, and fabricating machinery.
Learning is a continuous process and the day that you stop learning is the day that you start decreasing your rewards and lower levels of satisfaction. My ardent desire to acquire knowledge has motivated me to pursue higher studies at graduate level, and to take up a career in research in industry. I have taken this decision after carefully considering my academic background, profound interest in research and strong aptitude for problem solving. Banking on an excellent academic record coupled with a keen interest in the ever-growing field of science and technology motivated me to take up engineering.
Completing high school education from an illustrious junior college, my academic accomplishments at school earned me admission in Sri Sairam Engineering College, Chennai. Ranked 3rd in the southern region of India by Outlook and The Week, and is affiliated to prestigious Anna University. I am pursuing my bachelors in Production Engineering. I have a commodious curriculum which enunciates on latest manufacturing techniques, production management until my junior year. In my senior year, I have electives like Operation's research, Ergonomics. This opened the gates to the field of Industrial engineering and that moment, I realized that manufacturing alone is not the crux of an Industry but there are many other segments, which have to be given equal importance for the amelioration of the Industry, which made me decide to augment my knowledge to these areas rather than merely focusing on manufacturing.
I feel that graduate study at your university will give me credentials to secure challenging assignments and ability to meet the demands of those assignments.
Have you ever thought about how people like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates became the people who everybody knows? Imagine if those guys have a bachelor’s degree how more successful they could be. I have asked myself the question above and I found out that they were going for the things that they loved. For instance, when Steve Jobs was young he liked everything what was related to mechanisms. He built his first computer right in the garage. I am applying for mechanical engineering program in science department because it is my thing and I am 100% sure I will be a good engineer. I am very thankful for HCC to offer such a great opportunity that I want to take. I always loved mechanisms and wanted to know how they work. That’s why I chose to be a mechanical engineer.
Engineering has been a key interest of mine since childhood. While still in grade school I enjoyed listening to my father, an electrical engineer, teach me about advances in technology, and was always eager to hear more. I was introduced to my first computer at the age of five, and have loved interacting with them ever since. My decision to study engineering as a career was no surprise to those who knew me.
People travel miles in search of their true passion; some find them early in their life and I consider myself lucky enough to be one among them. I found my true calling at the age of 12 on a field trip to a milk factory. It seemed like the Disneyland of science with huge machineries, conveyer belts running all around, and instruments working about in their own rhythm with sheer intricacies and perfection. As a kid, I was eager to understand the mechanics behind this magical rhythm. The desire of gaining in-depth knowledge about Control System and Automation eventually led me to choose Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering as my undergraduate study.
Industrial Engineering Industrial Engineering is concerned with the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, equipment, information, and energy in the most efficient manner possible. Efficiency is one of an engineers major concerns. Being able to complete the job, solve the problem, and put the solution in process are all very important, but making the process efficient allows less waste and more profit. It draws upon specialized knowledge and skill in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems. Their jobs are also concerned with performance, reliability, cost efficiency, quality control, plant design, and management of human resources.
We are accessible only to a limited quantity of resources around us. Considering the current usage and availability of resources, it has become very important for us to use them as wisely as possible. As an industrial engineer my aim is to find ways to eliminate wastefulness and enhance the efficiency of the process or service being provided. I would like to enhance my knowledge and in order to achieve this, I wish to pursue my Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering at the Arizona State University. I aspire to do my PhD after my Masters to fulfil my long term career goal of carrying out postdoctoral industrial research while becoming a tenured professor.
But I did have an interest in materials. However, mechanical engineering is a very broad field. Mechanical engineering has an area of specialization referred to as “Materials and Manufacturing” [4] It doesn’t focus so heavily on material development and design so much as material selection and the methods of manufacturing parts using those materials. For example, “How do you mass produce carbon fiber parts?” would be a problem that a mechanical engineer of this specialization might set out to solve. At this point I had also had some exposure to electrical engineering, through a Snap Electronics kit and obtaining my Amateur Radio License. Mechanical engineers do take some electrical engineering classes. This gives mechanical engineers an understanding of electrical control systems and electric motors [5], both of which play important roles in machinery
I'm aware about the potential of beginners are eminent but I feasibly surpass them. The interaction with highbrows in this field from around the globe will broaden my horizons and enhance my adorning traits. I assure to be an forte to ---- and I intend that the Admission Council backpack the same spirit. During my school and college, I was very sharp in analytical problem solving and this quality made physics and mathematics one of my favorite subjects. I was very keen on performing the physics practical. My inclination towards physics and mathematics compelled to choose electrical engineering for my Bachelors degree.
When you look around, you see all kinds of modern wonders. None of these items would be possible without engineering. Engineering has shaped the lives of humans for thousands of years; it is simply the application of science and math to invent or innovate an item to carry out a human need. Recently, computer engineering has been the basis of the human world. We rely on computers like it is water or air, and it’s come to the point where they could be a necessity for success. Computers are used for pictures, data, development, research, design and much more. The mere fact that humanity prospered for so long without advanced computers is astonishing.
My first interest in Supply Chain Management resulted from my experience. Ever since I was young, I wanted to understand not just the ‘how’ of Mechanical engineering problems, but also why machines worked at the fundamental level. In particular, I was interested in learning the application of experimental techniques and principles governing Physics to solve problems. Therefore, I found the pursuit of B.E. in Mechanical Engineering almost a necessity, given my need to satiate my curiosity to gain deeper knowledge of that area.
