Design is all about creativity. It is about making something that has not been created before. This concept is appropriate for interior design, which is the art or process of designing an interior space. It requires natural talents, yet a designer’s skills can be developed throughout their time in practice. The designer’s main goal is to satisfy their client’s desire in terms of style for their preferred space. They are required to evaluate the floor plan of each area in order to come up with a concept and design. Laura Day is one of the most famous people in this field of study during this era. However, behind every great design are months and months of preparations. In order to make an extraordinary room design, there are four main stages that the designer needs to undergo; these stages are programming, design development, construction document and installation.
The first stage to make a good design is called programming (Pile 138). This is the time where the designer meet with the client. The client is the one who must tell the designer about their request and requirements for their desired room. It is also very important for the designer to ask some necessary questions to their clients, such as the number of bedrooms needed. Moreover, both designer and clients will talk about the deadline of the project as well as the budget because one of the most common design conflicts is usually involving cost. However, when the conflict arises, a solution can be made by articulating the choices and by proposing one or more choices. Day once said, "It's all about vision, the vision of the designer & the vision of the client." I personally agree with her quote, which in other words means that both the designer and the client’s ideas are equally important because when they combine ideas, it will make one incredible design.

As an interior designer, one must keep in mind certain things the client may want. Matthew’s Restaurant provides an excellent insight of the interior designing process. This allows one to learn important lessons that are essential to creating an environment that satisfies a client. For example, in Matthew’s Restaurant, Larry has a vision that he believes will make the restaurant’s environment fit Matthew’s vision. To achieve this, Larry wants to buy a sculpture that may be a little too pricey for Larry. However, Larry convinces Matthew to buy the sculpture through persuasion. From this we learn two things. First, towards the end of the project, the client will be more concerned about the price because it is most likely that the budget has moved
The modern era of architecture and interior design since the nineteenth century has often been an exciting expression. The contemporary designers were not only trying to break through traditions such as Rietveld 's Schroder House, but some also taking a leap back to the classical antiquity of style in the form of Empire Style was taken by Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine in Chateau de Malmaison. Although being very different in term of their contemporary cultural-socio-political state, to a certain extend, the two examples still share similarity, which modern space planning start to be driven more by the characteristic of the client.
Think about the things that make a home look nice. Think about the specific components that pull the whole place together. The paint or wallpaper on the walls, the hardwood or carpet on the floor, the furniture, and even the paintings or decoration on the walls. All of these important characteristics make up interior design. Interior design has been around for as long as the very first homes were built. But, what many people don’t know about are the continuous changes in interior design throughout history. From the looks of the early 17th century home, or the introduction to neoclassicism in the 18th century, to the move towards modernism in the 1900s..Interior design is an ever changing feature.
Throughout the world, there are an abundance of diverse cultures, each truly unique in comparison to another. Culture is described as the “characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts” (Zimmermann). Each of these traits is what sets each society apart, and is what influences their expression of design. Throughout this course, we’ve learned how planning and design have varied all through history, however we decided to take it a step further and focus on how different regions throughout the world create spaces that reflect their own cultures’ particular interests. Being a group composed entirely of Interior Design majors, our emphasis is investigating the use of material, color, motifs and layouts of their interior spaces, and how they reflect their societies. Not only do we explore a culture’s influence on design, but we briefly touch on environmental factors as well. Of all of the regions throughout the world, we decided to focus our research on the cultural practices and designs of Mexico, India, and Japan. Our reasoning behind centering on these three cultures is that these cultures are some of the most well-known, yet each entirely distinct within their own way, thus providing a greater understanding of design styles around the world.

Thus, the field deals with numerous factors and affects almost everyone in some way. Design is goal-oriented– it strives to achieve a certain purpose. An essential goal of interior design is to create functional spaces that convey a specific mood for an audience using design elements, thus outlining a design for communities versus individuals.
The methods used by designers to generate and refine creative ideas, the key considerations that help shape them and the feedback and review elements that allow design teams to learn from each job and contribute to future commissions.
